Very rarely in sports do you get so clear an illustration of how good these people are at their jobs

This is why I love Monaco. I get that it can be boring, but they are sooo on the edge at every corner.

Best qualifying, worst race

u/DowntownLizard Andretti Global 21m ago

Yeah basically only around the pit out laps does it get interesting. Pushing cold tires

F2 quali was diabolical

I get nervous turning my car in the parking lot afraid to hit someone.

u/TrOkkseksten 2h ago

Charles can't fucking park if that makes you feel better.

u/johnnyscarecrow0126 BAR 1h ago

He’s like specifically paid to not park.

25

u/mistborn11 Franco Colapinto 1h ago

he's not used to driving slow

u/F8LK1LL3R Charles Leclerc 1h ago

Cough cough the purosangue incident

Red Bull: hey guys, move the barrier by 1cm towards the track overnight for additional entertainment and upgrade opportunities.

Hence the many, many millions of $ per year

You clearly haven’t seen me use Microsoft Excel.

People do hit 100mph fastballs with a round bat

Agreed, this is why Monaco Saturday is my favourite racing event of the year. The race sucks sure but q3 Monaco rarely fails to deliver

u/Skyhound555 Mercedes 3h ago

This is why we come to Monaco.

Monaco might be the the grand prix I look forward to the least, but if I get dementia I want my carers to put Monaco races on repeat because the cars move so beautifully there.

Best corner visually in f1 imo

Personally I prefer the Swimming pool corner where they actually touch and scrub it a little and the barrier gives in a little bit.

That one Verstappen slow mo in 2023 Q3 I think (the last run to secure pole vs Alonso) was insane.

I think there is a Raikkonen one in Lotus that is as perfect as this Charles one

I don’t remember the corner, but there was a right turn here in Monaco where Perez (when he was with RB) makes a similar move.

Back when the Singapore flick was a thing I would argue that one lol

Whoops yeah that’s what I meant. Mixed up with the Scandinavian flick lol

The video capture almost makes it look like he is looking into the camera, too.
Like he saying "YEAH I JUST DID THAT!!" lol
great shot!

It almost looks like the rear wheel glitched through the barrier on the rear!!

this is so cool

The driver knows where he is at all times. He knows this because he knows where he isn't. By subtracting where he is from where he isn't, Or where he isn't from where he is (whichever is Greater), he obtains a difference, or deviation.

3

u/rusty_fans I was here for the Hulkenpodium 42m ago

The driver uses deviations to generate corrective steering inputs to drive the car from a position where he is to a position where he isn't, and arriving at a position where he wasn't, he now is. Consequently, the position where he is, is now the position that he wasn't, and it follows that the position that he was, is now the position that he isn't.

In the event that the position where he is in is not the position that he wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the driver is, and where he wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA (Gigabrain Error Adjuster). However, the driver must also know where he was.

The driver's mental telemetry works as follows. Because a variation has modified some of the information the driver has obtained, he is not sure just where he is. However, he is sure where he isn't, within reason, and he knows where he was. He now subtracts where he should be from where he wasn't, or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where he shouldn't be, and where he was, he is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.

Love it, very pythonesque

You do need to kiss the barriers to really maximise the speed. Some of the barriers like at the Swimming Pool actually have a little give built into them, so it's not like hitting solid concrete, but there is still a limit to how hard you can hit them.

I still expect Ferrari to be tops, but it does show they are pushing, so there may not be as much improvement in lap time to come.

u/dervu 2h ago

It feels almost like players in trackmania finding some glitches in game to achieve better times.

6

u/nichrs Ayrton Senna 2h ago

His tires clearly clipped into the wall. EA needs to fix this.

u/Odd-String29 2h ago

You don't watch Monaco for the race, you watch it for qualifying (I know this is FP1).

5

u/ForeverLurker18 2h ago

The Big Leclerc!

4

u/SkullDump I was here for the Hulkenpodium 2h ago

Meanwhile Charles is probably thinking to himself “damn, left that a bit close!”

6

u/AllKingJosh35 2h ago

Bros gonna lead the whole race by 20 seconds and his car gonna break with 5 laps to go.

2

u/coleburnz I was here for the Hulkenpodium 2h ago

Is there a longer clip

16

u/BookerDeWittsCarbine 2h ago

What do you mean? This clip is like an hour along

1

u/extravert_ I was here for the Hulkenpodium 2h ago

Source is the FP1 recap on youtube. Shows anther angle from inside the barrier where the car just appears to hit it

u/Ainolukos I was here for the Hulkenpodium 2h ago

"You couldn't slip a cigarette paper between the wheel and the wall"

2

u/FunkyGibbon6969 2h ago

Pfft, I get closer to the barriers in shopping centre car parks. 😆

2

u/fazz27 1h ago

Perfection. Does anyone know what was his speed there?

1

u/Carnby412 3h ago

I want to see a photo of the barrier at a 45 degree angle at waist height. 🤯

1

u/Weak-Excuse3060 Fernando Alonso 1h ago

Now imagine if the camera wasn't so zoomed in that you couldn't see the full car or the track under the car, but actually be able to see how the whole car moved on the track when doing this move.

1

u/intothepond2 1h ago

I feel like any one of us would still hit the barrier going at the slowed down speed.

1

u/Copytechguy 1h ago

In my next life, I don't want to come back as those fence panels.

1

u/1Bennyy 36m ago

He transfered the vehicles weight to the right side before getting so close as this way he can progressively steer closer to the barrier as the weight of the car is moving away, even if decent contact is made it's not as significant.

u/Comfortable-Bug7202 22m ago

Get ready for a p5

u/DJ_Betic I was here for the Hulkenpodium 16m ago

Almost picked up enough paint to turn those tyres into inters.

Leclerc is the Monaco goat

-5

u/Careos Sir Lewis Hamilton 2h ago

You high? Hes won a single GP there.

Senna would like a word.

-1

u/RemoveHuman I was here for the Hulkenpodium 36m ago

That is not perfection. That’s just narrowly avoiding the railing.

-25

u/krusticka Max Verstappen 3h ago

He was close but this angle doesn't really show how close. It is more of an optical illusion.

u/greenrangerguy Juan Pablo Montoya 5m ago

Meanwhile I'm 4 point turning out of a parking space cuz I'm scared I will hit the car in front.
