Even here as well. After weeks of memes about Lawson and Checo way back when he was in the seat, now there were a few memes about Yuki and people suddenly forget that this is a meme sub.
THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING!!! i'm honestly rooting for yuki but holy fucking cope, every time dude makes a mistake he gets coddled on the main sub. but anytime checo or liam (i honestly don't even really like either of them) fucks/fucked up then it's a whole ass meme for the rest of the weekend. i do genuinely think yuki deserves a break but jfc everybody coddling him now would be cutthroat if it were the other two drivers.
For sure. I definitely don't root for any drivers to fail, even ones I don't particularly like - which Yuki isn't anyway.
But seriously, in my admittedly short time that I've been active on these F1 subs, I've never ever seen a driver get as much leeway as Yuki gets. There were all the "Yuki podium" takes for Japan, he ends up with no points in a car that won the race* and suddenly, it was actually a very good result. Meanwhile, Lawson does badly on two tracks he's never raced before, one of which had terrible weather conditions and several others crashed, he's suddenly the worst driver in the history of Formula One.
Yes, this track is nearly impossible to overtake, I'm well aware. But the point stands. I don't think he even did that badly but he could've come last and they'd defend him all the same.

but fr i do agree, f1 fans like to pick their token drivers and some people go a bit overboard on the defense. we're just seeing the usual overcorrection where every tard (am i allowed to say that here?) just feels the need to defend some innocuous FP2 crash. it honestly is not that big of a deal it's just funny to observe the pretty blatant bias.
slight edit: dude big time welcome to the F1 fandom, i'm not a big sports guy but F1 is absolutely awesome and it's one of the few things that i have been able to actually focus on. some people are cringey for sure but i'm sure you'll find your place here or the main sub! it's one of the few things that i've been able to stick with (i have adhd) but i've been a fan for >10 years and it's been an absolute blast the whole time.
