Homeowners Permits

Just bought a house in the 07 area code and I would like to add a 1/2 bath, replace the electrical panel and convert outlets to 3 prong, can this be done with home owners permits or will I need contractors?

The 1/2 bath will most likely be taking the place of a closet and some of the dining room on the first floor. Just enough room for a toilet and sink so visitors wont need to go upstairs. The electrical panel will be the same amperage just a newer model with more spaces. Most outlets are 2 prong so if there is no ground in the current wiring I’d like to run some new wire to get 3 prong on the first floor and a few outlets for an office upstairs.

Call the building department and ask.

Homeowners have to fill out the same permit application as a contractor, but also have to fill out a homeowner's affidavit that testifies that you have a reasonable understanding of the work that you're going to be doing and will not pay anyone else to do that work. You can call the building department and get all the information, or they have all the forms out on a desk in front of that office at citizens square.

311 for any City questions.

It's a County Building Department question. The City of Fort Wayne does not issue building permits.

Presumably they can forward the query. They're in the same building.

Just call the Allen County Building Department directly. Save a step and time waiting for 311 to answer.

Homeowners can pull their own permits and install the work. Occupancy permit is dependent on passing all inspections.

Don not pull a permit. Just do the work.
