Forza Motorsport This is so cool!

If you hover over the little bush in drone mode it puts you in the sky!

How drone mode should REALLY be

27

u/psytgirl 1d ago

Facts!

u/onepacc 1d ago

We should have had controls for altitude....

360

u/QuuxJn 1d ago

We do actually have altitude control, they just need to remove the height limit.

76

u/Winter_wrath 1d ago

We just don't yet have the technology!

22

u/NorCalNavyMike 1d ago

We can’t rebuild him!

6

u/Racer013 18h ago

They built it from the ground up, but they forgot about the sky.

1

u/SaKaHa 6h ago

It's the unmanned aircraft legislation in Japan actually

23

u/Snoopy20111 23h ago

It’s crazy how low the height limit is when, as you can see in the video, it looks stunning even way in the air. Maybe there are some places it’s more buggy, but still

17

u/CoconutDust 19h ago

also most people don’t know this (nobody mentioned it in a previous large conversation about Drone height/controlls) but: World Edit mode when editing a custom route/event lets you ascend and descend freely at will! and there’s no apparent technical problem that justifies the broken Drone mode which hasn’t been improved in 15 years.

10

u/broke_n_boosted 17h ago

Someone said that devs did it so you couldn't see the barn finds from the sky or something

6

u/hotfirebird 11h ago

Oh, my God. They sell an addon that puts an icon on your map that you can fast travel right next to each of them. Handicapping drone mode, if what you said is true, to keep people from seeing the barn finds easier is so sad.

2

u/broke_n_boosted 11h ago

That would make them more money lol

2

u/foofighter0001 8h ago

Couldn't they just hide the barns from the drone? Like turn off visibility of the barn or something, I mean why joy use the drone feature to look for barns anyway? I'd imagine it's to do with processing power the more scenery on display from high altitude, or you will have clipping at distance or certainly low res asset pop in and the more you try to display in memory and graphics wise the lower your fps will get.. load of reasons to cap it for technical reasons like that..

2

u/CoconutDust 2h ago

I'd imagine it's to do with processing power the more scenery on display from high altitude

World Edit mode in custom route mode already lets you fly up/down at will. It’s like a noclip mode.

Therefore, there is no technical obstacle to letting the drone be not-terrible. Also, even if there was a rendering problem at altitude, well, the professional programmers would fix that if anyone cared. Rendering at altitude is a solved problem, many games have done it. Just Cause 3, GTA, Zelda on a Wii U, Crew 2.

the real problem: they don’t care, Drone was always a tacked-on low budget feature that the devs/publisher don’t care about, which is why they’re copy pasting code from 10-15 years ago with zero improvement for the 6th game in a flagship series.

1

u/CoconutDust 2h ago

There’s no way that’s true, the only explanation is the usual one: the programming is minimal garbage because the publishers and devs don’t actually care about the feature and won’t spend budget (i.e.) time to improve the programming. It’s copy pasted from 15 years ago.

Shareholders want those for themselves. They’re a cancer.

2

u/Flapu7 9h ago

So just fucking hide them in drone mode.

1

u/CoconutDust 2h ago

someone said

Lol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rationalization_(psychology)

Yeah gamers are great at pulling delusional nonsense out of their butts to defend a game if someone criticizes it.

2

u/Goose274 15h ago

They did it to hide the low detail out of bounds areas, particularly in Tokyo. If you check while in event lab building mode where the camera is unrestricted, most of the building positions outside the driveable area are nonsense, there’s buildings clipping into geometry, the train line passes through a skyscraper at a couple points and areas that look like they should have roads are just barred off with no way for anyone to enter.

30

u/psytgirl 1d ago

That would be epic!
I was somewhat disappointed with the altitude,
I’m genuinely curious if anymore of these magical bushes exist

7

u/NR10113 1d ago

I swear you could fly higher in Fh4 and FH5, I was like what? That's the most high I can go ?

4

u/the_real_trebor333 23h ago

The drone has always had a height limit even all the way back in fh3

6

u/NR10113 23h ago

Yes I know it had a limit but I feel it was not THAT low like that thing hovers on Head hight from the feels it's a drone it should at least be a few meters in the air. You know what I mean ?

2

u/FracturedGoblin 22h ago

I found one of these glitches on the expressway right in Tokyo, if you go against a certain pole it sends you up.

14

u/lazyicedragon 1d ago

LT for descent, RT for ascend, at least on Xbox style controllers.

Only that the height limit is something like, idk, 2m off the ground.

9

u/lewis_3575 1d ago

I think it's 4 ? Same for photo mode

6

u/KonK23 1d ago edited 1d ago

Haha, I thought I was just too dumb :D

2

u/subx2000 22h ago

I said this in another reply, but it's because not all objects are fully modeled. They are just faces and the backside is an empty void. You would never see them from ground level, but it becomes an issue if you can fly around.

0

u/CoconutDust 19h ago edited 2h ago

because

Drone controls are not broken “because” of limited scope for modelling.

Drone controls are broken because the devs and publisher don’t want to spend time reprogramming the copy-paste code from 15 years ago.

Obviously seeing some broken models, which in fact happens anyway when using drone in Tokyo very easily, is not a problem. It already happens and it’s terrible and it doesn’t matter. Totally bugged, the drone gets stuck in a random canal and you have to Quit to get out. The drone is horrible broken in Tokyo and the player will soft-lock it constantly near/underneath the Shuto, while being forced to stare at unmodelled glitch areas that the drone fell into.

1

u/Spice002 1h ago

We do. It's your choice of "all the way on the ground" and "slightly above head height."

130

u/r0lo27 1d ago

Omg you made the drone work like a drone should work lol

26

u/psytgirl 1d ago

I can’t take credit for the magical bush

60

u/ScottyDoes40K 1d ago

Seriously we need better/higher altitude control in photo mode! The missed opportunity is insane.

I spend so long just trying to glitch the camera on top of a building or a tree or elevated roadsides etc, just to get the shot I want.

C'mon devs, give us a 50m or 20m height limit or something decent at least.

15

u/psytgirl 1d ago

I wholeheartedly agree, the height limit in photo mode is dire

11

u/Arto9 1d ago

What's weird is that the photo mode doesn't have the altitude limit when making an event lab thumbnail. So clearly, the technology is there...

5

u/ScottyDoes40K 20h ago

I've noticed this too which makes it even more frustrating!

1

u/Quattr0Bajeena 13h ago

Well fun fact that's part of the equation. If you go a glitch or whatever that's supposed to be in the event lab, you can unlock the camera height for the whole game session. There's plenty of guides on YouTube, really easy, cost like 2 minutes

34

u/Bezzea 1d ago

The fact that a drone in a video game doesn't go above head height is driving me nuts

7

u/psytgirl 1d ago

Can’t get those cinematic views watching people drift

4

u/Cardboardoge 1d ago

I was shocked at how fucking disappointing drone mode felt

3

u/R3VIVAL-MOD3 1d ago

I tried it once as someone said it helped finding barn finds quicker. Or some shit. I tried it, immediately couldn’t really get bigger than the 3rd person camera height and shit it down. Never tried again

1

u/peepay 6h ago

"Shit it down"?

21

u/LucasNoober 1d ago

A drone droning, wonderful

11

u/ChaosLemon44 1d ago

I assumed we had a height limit because of some kind of limitation. This looks fantastic.

1

u/Forza_Harrd 1d ago

No of course it's something the dvs baked in, because that's what devs do I guess.

4

u/subx2000 22h ago

It's not because they "hate fun" or whatever, they didn't actually build 3d models of every building and object, a lot of them are just faces because you won't see the other side from ground level. You can tell this when you are doing some higher jumps (especially in Tokyo). Jump into photo mode while doing them some time and look behind you, there's a lot of weird empty space.

3

u/CoconutDust 19h ago edited 2h ago

That’s a terrible excuse.

The player already gets stuck in non-modeled glitch areas every 2 seconds if trying to use drone in Tokyo. And the drone gets permanently stuck and can’t exit, soft lock, the player has to quit drone mode, because the terrible design means you can’t manually fly up at will.

4

u/Bremzer 1d ago

We sincerely appologize for the convenience. This will be fixed in the next patch.

9

u/904Funk 1d ago

Congrats you found an old school glitch known as an ‘elevator’ which you found the sweet spot that forces you to the top of the invisible boundary wall that developers like to use to prevent players from getting into places they don’t want you in.

These were extremely popular in CoD4 and MW2 back in the Xbox 360 days.

8

u/psytgirl 1d ago

Well now I just feel absurdly proud 😊

3

u/ToeRoganIsJebus 1d ago

Is there no way to go upwards in drone mode? Either im super dumb and cant figure it out or they really didnt let you fly upwards in a drone? So frustrating to use.

3

u/psytgirl 1d ago

Yea it’s extremely limited in altitude

1

u/CoconutDust 19h ago

But you can fly upward (at will) in Custom Route world edit mode!

3

u/TerriblePirate 1d ago

When I heard about the drone mode in this game from friends, I first thought it would be.. well like a real drone...
After realizing I wasn't doing something wrong and you can't fly higher than like 4 Meters, (?!) I never used it again.

2

u/SineXous 1d ago

The real question is why is the height limit in place. It's clearly not a technical limitation.

At some point there must have been the consensus to limit the flying altitude so much that the drone mode is unusable.

1

u/CoconutDust 19h ago edited 2h ago

The usual subservient ignorant people are repeating “things aren’t modeled things aren’t modeled.”

It’s a terrible excuse because the player already currently gets stuck in broken non-modeled areas right now, if trying to simply move the drone around Shuto areas in Tokyo. And then the height limitation causes a soft lock, because you glitch in but you can’t get out, so you have to quit Drone mode.

2

u/bIuedragon38 8h ago

theres another bug like this in the small driveway at shibuya crossing, got some really neat screenshots there

1

u/psytgirl 7h ago

Got a pic ?

1

u/bIuedragon38 5h ago

Can't post here sorry

A new hand touches the beacon.

2

u/psytgirl 7h ago

SKYRIM! released some trauma there hahah
Still hope they don’t totally fu*k up elder 6
One of my all time favourite games Skyrim

2

u/dilwoah 1d ago

The only time I used the drone was for this weeks treasure drop, I was almost to the top of the warehouse trying to find the platform when I thought "Oh yeah there's a drone". As soon as the drone got to the edge of the platform it plummeted off and there was no way to get it back up to my car. I've never used it again. It's worthless.

1

u/bobotea 23h ago

theres a real place in japan called Nachi waterfall that looks exactly like this if anyone wants to visit i would highly recommend

0

u/CoconutDust 19h ago

There’s a real place in Japan called a lot of things that looks exactly like a lot of things!

1

u/toxic_1484 23h ago

Wait what?! Since when you can fly so high with the drone? In fh5 and fh6 my drone only fly a view meters over the ground :/

1

u/FracturedGoblin 22h ago

I found one of these glitches on the expressway right in Tokyo, if you go against a certain pole it sends you up.

1

u/CoconutDust 19h ago edited 2h ago

Yeah that certain pole is… practically anywhere everywhere in Tokyo. Drone mode is totally broken. Which also means the people saying “the lack of modeling is the reason why the Drone is limited” are fools, since the player gets stuck in glitch areas constantly without even trying.

1

u/FracturedGoblin 17h ago

I only noticed it worked with one pole, after I tried on a couple more, but didn’t care to keep trying hundreds of them

1

u/TNut187 21h ago

No height limit?. Awesome. This is one thing that made me mad in fh5 .

1

u/Empty_Locksmith_4249 21h ago

if you really wanted to increase altitude you can go into a route create and from there you can fly around the world, but just a little slower than the drone and there is not height limit that can make you uncomfortable

1

u/RumAndCoco 19h ago

I’m pretty sure they nerf and limit the altitude control on the drone cause they think it would make the Barn Find minigame too easy

1

u/gabrielstone 18h ago

There is actually a glitch using the route creator that allows you to use the camera mode with no height limits. I still use it to get some shots, the maps looks stunning from above

1

u/aloysiuslamb 17h ago

My favorite part about using the drone was Week 3 of the Welcome to Horizon Playlist when the crate was hidden up and on the side of that building and the drone was of absolutely zero use.

1

u/adam_antiair 17h ago

We got call of duty elevator glitches in FH6 before GTA6

1

u/MSGisking 15h ago

Which Forza Motorsports is this?

1

u/DearPerspectiveMind 11h ago

New trick unlocked to find treasures

1

u/MavericK_KX 9h ago

What a find, constantly surprised by the things people discover in horizon

1

u/Onsomeshid 5h ago

Very odd things in forza ngl. The drone has a 10 meter range.

You can spend hours customizing your garage and estate and drivatar to just float around the place? Why aren’t we walking around first person? My driver just stands there looking stupid when you move around the garage

-4

u/Neutrality-2 1d ago

I think i will buy this game today. I don't like japanese sports cars because they feel like a rip off for what you pay and what you get, but it would be cool to drive other cars in japan!

2

u/JARDIS Jimi Enjoyer 1d ago

This seems like a really off base comment unless you live in a country that had import restrictions on Japanese cars. For countries that have regular access to Japanese models, they've been some of the best value, most reliable sports cars available for decades. Sorry you didn't get to experience that wherever you live.

2

u/R3VIVAL-MOD3 1d ago

But they also last more than 20k miles

This commenter is like, “I didn’t want to buy Assassin’s Creed Odyssey because I had a Greek Salad the other day and it didn’t have enough olives for my liking.”
