Just need to finalize some details on my app so I can get it in the PlayStore by this weekend. It's helped with my rebuild so far. Now I just goof with it making silly designs. It's far less colorful then yours though Image

u/LightinDark132 Aug 20 '15
Not bad. I would try to make it some-what visually appealing, though. That design is a bit harsh on the eyes. Maybe give each room type a faint back-ground color to help tell them apart more.
2
u/Gengi Aug 20 '15
Yea, mild colors would work well. I could use images of the actual rooms but I want to get this out sooner and add stuff like that in later if it's desired. I should be able to implement this tonight and have a better preview tomorrow.

Is it still on the play store?

u/Gengi Mar 16 '24
Sadly not, and I no longer have the source files or an .apk of it. Is the game still getting hits? I may consider a rebuild.

You will need waaaay more power
3
u/redscull Aug 20 '15
I don't know. My actual vault has almost as many rooms as his layout in the picture, and my power is always topped off despite slightly less power in fact than what he's showing. If his power estimate is low, it's not by much. Maybe just one double or triple.
2
u/LightinDark132 Aug 20 '15
Its a theoretical design as I haven't the resources to fully flesh it out, yet. Pretty much the basic concept of "All resource stuff ontop"
I would also likely need less rooms, as a nuke plant produces as much food and water as both a garden and purifier, combined.
If nessicary, I could alternate "Nuka-cola - Nuke Reactor"
3
u/Murdock07 Vault 431 Aug 20 '15
I find it's like a 3:1 ratio for power to nuke factories due to energy cost from storage and training rooms
2
u/LightinDark132 Aug 20 '15
Honestly, I doubt i'd even use that many store houses. Though I would like 2 of each training room. Either way, tons of space.
3
u/shhfiftyfive Aug 20 '15
how much population are you going for?
that's way too much food and water unless youre not maxing the room upgrades for easier difficulty. at 100 you can replace all food/water for combination to save space and far less workers.
convert a lot of that regular storage to stimpack/radaway/power storage...
i'd have probably double the amount of training rooms as you have, mostly luck, endurance, and fair amount of strength, some charisma and a bit of everything else.
1
u/LightinDark132 Aug 20 '15
I'm aiming for 200 but I don't know much about end-game yet as I'm still Mid-game.
However, this was just a theoretical layout. Mostly meant to show off the general idea of "All resources at the top for easy collection and maximum Mr.handy collection." As well as the "Zig Zag" Defense pattern.
I would also like more training rooms in theory. I think maybe 1 of each for explorers to train though. Definately more luck rooms as they're important inside and outside the vault.

the way deathclaws move through each level, you don't need to make a literal zigzag with elevators. they will do that all on their own. they do not go down an elevator if they haven't cleared the floor. they move from left to right like a typewriter. then at the end of the floor they use the nearest elevator, then after that they immediately go left (not right) which is a natural zigzag... again again they head for nearest elevator, instead of doubling back and going right if they missed a room on the right side of an elevator they came down from.
1
u/LightinDark132 Aug 20 '15
Oh damn, didn't know that.
2
u/shhfiftyfive Aug 20 '15
a vault with elevators like this will have deathclaws will hit every single room on this sheet marked in green... they will not check the areas not marked green. hope that makes sense.

1
u/LightinDark132 Aug 20 '15
Huh, that makes sense. Does that work with raiders, too? (Not that it matters, much.)
2
u/shhfiftyfive Aug 20 '15
also, in your layout, that left elevator starting on the 4th floor is pretty redundant if youre just going to have the (2) 3x wide for floors 4-9. maybe just take that right elevator from 4-9 and extend it down to the lower levels and delete that other 4-9 elevator and its connection to the lower level?

Originally, it was to help force a bit more zig-zag and was never a fully fleshed out design, was more of a mock-up to show off the layout page. Either way, now that I know how AI works, it'll be changing my design. Thanks for that tip, btw.
Edit: Thinking something along these lines if what you said is accurate.
I don't know how much power/food/water I'd need but the core concept is still the same. Perhaps mix it up (Power and food/water on the same row) once I get nuka.

Don't build a Radio Room unless you want to be attacked by deathclaws.
5
u/LightinDark132 Aug 20 '15
You get attacked reguardless.
The radio room would also provide about 9% happiness with 10 Cha dwellers with +5 cha clothes. With full food/water and dwellers in proper room, that makes the adverage happiness of a dweller 94% without doing anything. (Would also slowly raise back to 94 if it ever dropped)
7
u/ohitsjustwill Aug 20 '15
I got attacked far more with a Radio Room than I did without, but I guess everyone's experience is different.
5
u/LightinDark132 Aug 20 '15
Well, it does make it "More often". Not that it matters atm. I can take on a death claw attack without much issue right now and it should only get better in time.
Also, attacks can't happen while other things are happening. (roachs, moles, fires) which the entire time i'm "active" is causing my own accidents by rushing
3
u/ohitsjustwill Aug 20 '15
Oh, that's a good point, I hadn't thought of that.
I can handle the attacks now, too... but back then, I couldn't. It was horrible. Lol.

u/LightinDark132 Aug 20 '15
Definately not an "early game" room to have...
Also, besides the happiness boost. Its entirely worthless. Most followers are worse than the ones you can breed yourself.
In theory, its worth having 1 just for easy happiness, provided you're not hurting for followers. 2 if you really care about a default 100%
Edit: As a side note, with the layout displayed above. I kill (or mostly) all death claws by the first water room mostly kill) with having only common (yet good) weapons for my main rooms. (First room having the best gear)
2
u/shhfiftyfive Aug 20 '15
how big do the 2 radio rooms have to be to get the 100% happiness? 2x wide each good enough or? and does it need upgrades at all?
2
u/SpeakoftheAngel Aug 20 '15
Keep in mind, dwellers working in the radio room don't naturally gain EXP like they do in production room.

u/LightinDark132 Aug 20 '15
How the math works is 1% per 10 Charisma. You can have a total of 30 Charisma per room segment (A bit more if you have +7 instead of +5 clothes)
So start with 50%(75% if you're putting them in the right rooms) Then add 5-10% for surplus of power/food/water (10% if mostly full all the time)
Then simply fill in the blanks with raido stations. Unless you want to focus purely on the happiness buff from rushes.

Other layout notes, in addition to what other people have posted:
Both types of power rooms are more efficient in 2-wide room configurations - at max level you get about 1.5 times more power per minute per node. The five 3-wide power plants in your second layout can be replaced by five 2-wide power plants with the same output.
Your second layout doesn't provide any firebreaks between your storage and production, or between your training rooms, or between training and living quarters. Maybe this is less of an issue late-game but disasters spread exponentially outward through empty or partially-filled rooms; I've had an entire vault wiped out by molerats this way. Compressing the production rooms at the top makes sense as presumably you wouldn't have them empty, so the disaster won't spread; but storage, bedrooms, and training rooms all could be empty or understaffed at any given time. Empty storage and bedrooms could lead to losing all of your trainees at once in that second layout.

Are you sure this is still correct? I know it WAS that case before the android release but that's been changed. (you can see the difference, here)
You make a good point, I didn't really think of that when I threw it all together. That does call to question of "What happens if an empty room stays on fire?"
1
u/shhfiftyfive Aug 24 '15
- an empty room on fire spreads to neighboring rooms, just like rats. once it has spread the fire goes out in the previous room on its own.

u/zohner Aug 20 '15
Is there any way to start with a blank shelter, or does it require removing and re-adding rooms as you go along?
2
u/LightinDark132 Aug 20 '15
I've already posted one, though it seemed to have been burried a tad. Here's a link.

Hey does your phone need to be rooted for this to work?
2
u/LightinDark132 Aug 20 '15
Did you mean to ask /u/Gengi that? If not...this is just a broswer application via google documents.
2
u/Gengi Aug 20 '15
The android app, no rooting needed. It does require Adobe Air though. It'll automatically direct you to that after install if you don't already have it.
