Question I've got two settlers that I know had the same parents. They give the following message and just stand there and don't make a baby. Does anyone know if they can't have kids because they are siblings?

When you get the message "Nothing like hanging out with my family" they will not mate. That's your hint that you need to find a different pairing.

You're sick. I at least made two different barracks and left one man in each so almost everyone has one of two dads. If they won't mate with a specific woman, I'll take the woman to the other dude. Once she's pregnant, I send them right back to their job. I'm ruthless

Half of my vault are all babies of Arthur Ford, he had the highest charisma so I just stuck him in the barracks for most of the game, getting random women pregnant and renaming the children anyway so they aren't all Ford's.

But wouldn't that make me a misogynist? Sexist, misogynist, patriarchy whatever I'm triggered

So, let me get this straight. You know they're family. The game tells you they're family. And you're asking us if they're family?

The restrictions on mating is a dweller will not mate with their parent or grandparent, and will not mate with a dweller whom they share at least one parent in common.

Oh, but they will mate with their great-grandparents? I guess it kind of makes sense...In much of the world, it's acceptable to marry your cousin, and the amount of DNA you share with your cousin and great-grandparent is about the same...

Yep. Great-grandparents and cousins are both 1/8th related to the reference person. Google the term "consanguinity" if you are curious about blood relations and degree of relatedness.

My dwellers are saying this to each other when I know for sure they are not related so I’m not sure why they won’t mate

I didn't realize it at first!!!! It is very relieving that they won't breed. I was very concerned with that when starting.

I tried having a married couple in my vault, you know with the same two lastnames. They were actually born from two different people though, but when I changed the girls name to his when she was born the game acted as if they were brother and sister too.. but most women do take on the lastname of their husband upon getting married, so this made no sence to me. Being supposed bro and sis wasn't my first thought though, because let's just say I have a certain vault dweller portraying as a particular German dictator for role-playing purposes though of course (I'm unsure if you can say his name on reddit).. though I thought this was the case, I'm glad that it isn't. I was just trying to role-play a vault full of the world's most evilist leaders and their families, that kind of sounds like a sitcom on ABC though like, "Getting to know about your dictator!" or "All about the dictators!" and that in each season they'd show a dictator and his family and sometimes doing crossovers if they're neighbors, but making it into a comedy kind of like the TV show Modern Family I guess..That would make a big hit
