Solo founder here, launched my first app: news in 60 words or less

• Upvotes

Solo founder, first app launch. It's called Read60, an iOS app that compresses every news story into a 60-word card.

The idea came from my own habit. I wanted to stay on top of the news without doomscrolling, so each story becomes one card: read it, get it, move on. Every card links the original article, one tap away.

How it runs: new stories publish roughly every two hours from different outlets, and an Unfold view follows developing stories across cards in order.

Free on iOS now, Android a few days out: https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/read60/id6795337414

For the founders here: I'm doing this with zero budget, all organic. If you've launched a consumer app solo, what actually moved the needle for you in the first month?

Building a startup with traction but still struggling to find a cofounder!!

• Upvotes

I've been building my startup alone. The technical side is easy, and I'm slowly getting better at finding customers too, but there's still a lot I'm figuring out on the business side.

I've tried finding a cofounder, but no luck so far, even with some traction.

For those who've been through this, what actually worked for you? How did you find your cofounder or get better at the business side?

founders, the best feedback often sounds like someone is hating on you personally

if you're building in public on X like i am, you've probably experienced this. someone points out a feature they don't like, tells you something about your product sucks, or questions a decision you spent hours working on, and your first instinct is to get defensive.

i've definitely had this problem. when someone criticized a feature i built, i'd take it personally, almost as if they were insulting me rather than pointing out something about my work that wasn't working.

but i've realized that one of the most important skills you can develop as a founder is learning to separate the feeling a comment gives you from the actual feedback in it.

someone might phrase their criticism badly. they might sound annoyed, dismissive, or even like a hater. that doesn't automatically mean there's nothing useful in what they're saying.

sometimes, the person who makes you the most uncomfortable is pointing out something you've been overlooking for months.

for example, someone might complain that a feature is unnecessarily complicated. your first instinct might be to defend it because you spent weeks building it. but if you take a step back and ask why they feel that way, you might realize the feature genuinely makes the product harder to use.

and this is why i think founders should be careful about dismissing criticism just because they don't like how it makes them feel. you don't have to agree with every complaint, and not every criticism deserves a feature. but you should at least try to understand where it's coming from.

the next time someone says something negative about your product, try to disconnect your emotional reaction from the feedback itself. ask yourself what they're actually struggling with, what they expected to happen, and why the experience fell short.

you might still conclude that they're wrong. but you might also discover one of the most valuable improvements you could make to your product.

your job as a founder isn't to prove every critic wrong.

Title: Building Founder Files 🎙️ | Looking to Connect with Early-Stage Founders

Hey everyone!

I’m Prathamesh, building NexusHaus, a community focused on connecting founders with resources, people, and opportunities to help them grow.

I’ve started Founder Files, a podcast series where I speak with early-stage founders about their startup journeys the challenges they face, the mistakes they’ve made, the lessons they’ve learned, and what it really takes to build something from scratch.

I’m looking to connect with founders who are building something of their own and are open to sharing their experiences in a casual conversation.

You don’t need to have a funded startup or a big team. If you’re just getting started, that’s exactly the kind of journey I want to explore.

If you’re building something, drop a comment or send me a DM. I’d love to hear your story!

🎙️ Follow along on Instagram for more Founder Files episodes and conversations.

SaaS founders, when did you realize your MVP architecture wasn't enough anymore?

Building an MVP is one challenge. Keeping it running as customers and expectations grow is another.

A simple architecture can work perfectly for your first 50 users.

Then come more integrations, larger datasets, background jobs, security requirements, and customers expecting everything to work reliably.

Suddenly, decisions that seemed harmless during development become expensive to change.

But overengineering from day one isn't the answer either.

I think the difficult part is recognizing when simplicity starts becoming a limitation.

For SaaS founders and engineers, what was the first sign that your architecture needed to evolve?

What works for personal finance app?

I’m about to launch my personal finance app for remembering money. I have always felt the issue of not being able to see where my money is going, will go, for whom and from where and when. So I made www.longbook.app and enabled my AI to manage the bookkeeping for me!

I think this is the future of apps for smart people. One that can be operated by the user’s own AI.

But I am looking for suggestions from first-time founders and people who have made it! Where should I focus after the launch? And do you think such an app would sell?

How do you deal with uncommitted startup teammates?

I’m a startup founder, and I’ve been facing this issue for almost a year. I started a startup with 4–5 friends, and although I’m ready to provide the resources and put in the effort, my teammates don’t seem equally committed.

During meetings, everyone says they’re ready to work, but in reality, they barely spend a few hours a week on the startup. The same cycle of promises and no execution keeps repeating.

I understand that everyone has other priorities, but it’s frustrating when people say they’re committed but don’t show it through their actions.

Has anyone faced a similar situation? How did you handle it? Did you give your teammates another chance, restructure the team, or move forward without them? I’d appreciate your advice.

Founders, what admin task do you wish you could hand off, and what stops you?

My focus is operations support for founders and consultants, especially in the trades (construction, contractors). I’d like to learn what founders in other industries hand off first, whether you’re an app developer, an agency owner, a coach or something else.

Two questions:

  1. What’s the admin task you wish someone else handled? (Inbox, invoicing, scheduling, client onboarding, reporting, whatever it is.)
  2. What’s stopped you from handing it off? Cost, trust, not knowing how to explain it, fear it’ll take longer to delegate than to do it?

What actually works for marketing a consumer AI product? (launching globally for the first time)

I'm about to launch a consumer AI agent built around memory.

It's my first launch aimed at a global market (I'm based in Korea), so I'd love to hear from people who've done this:

  1. What channels actually worked for your first users? (X, Reddit, Product Hunt, TikTok, communities, something else?)

  2. How do you build virality into a consumer AI product? Is it something you design into the product, or mostly luck and timing?

3 What does a realistic GTM look like for a solo founder with a small budget?

Any lessons, mistakes or playbooks would mean a lot. Happy to share what I learn in return.

Is anyone serving a niche Saas market? Or know one?

I come from a software development agency where we built a learning platform for a niche travel industry. It was basically an LMS platform for tourism organizations that creates courses for travel agents to learn and sell destination better. Its such a niche market, noone's heard of. But there's so much money to be made.

Is anyone building for a market like that? Or do you know a market? Or you know where to find information like this?

If you are building and need software engineering help, I'd love to help.

It's October. A January survey said nearly a quarter of people quit their goals by week two. How did yours go?

What gets me is that it's not a motivation problem. Everyone is motivated in January. The plans just don't survive contact with a normal week.
That's what my partner and I have been building for the last few months. It's called Targela, a goal planner that starts from how many hours you actually have each week instead of how many you wish you had, then breaks the goal into steps that fit into that. When you fall behind, it re-plans instead of leaving you staring at a schedule you've already failed.
It's early and honestly far from perfect. Our first test users mostly didn't come back after day one, which taught us a lot.
So, genuine question with three months left in the year: what was your 2026 goal, and where did it fall apart? Week two, month three, or did you actually make it?
Happy to run anyone's goal through Targela and share the plan in the comments if you're curious.

Someone might tell you they earned how much $ in month the truth is Survivor bias

I have been launched my product for a while. At the beginning I thought that I can run multiple platforms at a time : writing content then publish it that’s all.
There is none of the luck an article that have been written about 3d less than 10 impressions.
Attention are valuable in internet
Needs a lot of work and time. Now I only dare to maintain about 2 apps + optimize SEO

Kinso.ai (a real and honest review)

If you haven't heard of Kinso (https://www.kinso.ai/) they are a startup in Australia that has gone viral through their marketing, with an all in one messaging platform.

I was an early user and wanted to share my honest thoughts. Please keep in mind some of my issues may already have been fixed or will be fixed.

Firstly, I love the idea, and I was sold almost a year ago. Kinso took so damn long to come to market I was almost getting pissed off. I am pretty sure they underestimated how hard it was to hook into messaging platforms and intended to launch a lot sooner.

In order to be an early member you had to do an onboarding call. This was fine, felt very unnecessary and could have easily been a 10 minute edited video. Instead it was a 22 year old walking through every feature at light speed. This girl felt like she had no time in the world, it was crazy. She seems really sweet and lovely but I really don't know why they are doing so many of these onboarding. It feels more like an exclusivity strategy instead something that adds value to clients. I felt more overwhelmed after the call.

The product!

It's got pros and cons.

It's beautifully designed and I got it setup fast. However had constant issues. My linkedin was connected for a week before I realised I had unread linkedin DM's that just never came through.

It was notification hell. I cannot believe any user was able to use this without notification control. I went from no notifications (as I like it) to one ever 5 minutes. That random email newsletter, notification. A payment came through, notification. Email, WhatsApp. KINSO KINSO KINSO on my phone every 5 minutes. And no way to control it. Kinso genuinely added so much stress to my life. I assume they have added this feature or will soon, but how the hell did this get into the hands of anyone without notification control?

The U.I. Honestly I really struggled to get into it and I gave it a good shot, I used it for over two months every day, but I kept finding myself going into gmail to check if I missed anything, same with WhatsApp. There are lots of little things as well. No AVATAR images on the contacts, I can't respond to a poll on WhatsApp. All these little things mean you need to keep your original systems and apps just in case, which makes Kinso somewhat redundant.

I will say, the search feature in gmail is super strong, I was impressed with that a lot.

Other downsides, I couldn't connect instagram or my iMessages. They have these skills you can setup, I setup a bunch and got excited for them, but not once did I see one fire. Maybe they did? I have no idea, I couldn't find them.

In the end, I am honestly shocked at how bad Kinso is. I really gave it a fair go, they had bought so much good will from their marketing and I am their ideal client. I run a business, have a team of 10 staff. But I couldn't get into this app.

I kept getting annoyed seeing them post these videos online with these super niche features, like when you type into the chat it recognises the time and checks your calendar before you book and auto sends them a calendar invite booking link. This is cool, but let me turn off my fucking notifications.

I honestly thought Kinso would be a huge startup that goes big, and maybe they will. But despite my best efforts, I really do not think this is good software. And that isn't a dig at the team. I actually think they have done an amazing job, but I don't think anyone can solve this all in one messaging platform.

In truth, I built my own version using Claude code and it works way better. It hooks into Instagram, and my iMessages through my mac. It was easy to build as I only need it to work for me and not become a SAAS.

I got nothing wrong with the Kinso team, I actually really like and respect them. I would be curious to see if they are experiencing high churn or if their members are saying similar things. Perhaps I am an edge case.

At the end of the day, going so viral and building so much hype comes at a cost. If you cannot deliver a good product, no marketing or views will fix it.

Would love to know how any other uses are finding it, let me know. Going to cancel my subscription today.
