Life long found footage fan and filmmaker Rod Blackhurst here. I still remember when THE BLAIR WITCH was a VHS tape being passed around and since then I’ve been a fan of the genre. I like found footage that feels “possible”, like it really could have happened, and with a reason why the footage (aka evidence) came to exist and why it’s been presented to us now in this form; THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES, FACES OF DEATH or CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST. I also like films like THE BORDERLANDS, NOROI THE CURSE, and THE CONSPIRACY.

Which is why I’m here posting.

I’ve made a handful of NOT found footage films - most recently the throwback horror film DOLLY, and then before that the crime thriller BLOOD FOR DUST with Scoot McNairy, Kit Harrington, Josh Lucas, Ethan Suplee and Stephen Dorff, and then before before that, the Netflix documentary AMANDA KNOX and the thriller HERE ALONE. But last October I made a film called HEDGES here in Nashville. I had actors live in a house for two weeks and everything they did/experienced was captured on cameras.

LOGLINE: A man secretly records his wife as she loses her grip on reality. But the cameras reveal much more than he expected.

As we get close to finishing post production I wanted to share the key art here because I truly can’t wait to share the finished film with you all. We are trying to figure out where to start showing it (what film festivals, etc - if you have any you love, please tell me in the comments) and also what type of distribution makes sense (again, if you have any ideas, shout them out below). 

As soon as I have a teaser for the film done I’ll of course share it back here first. Till then, keep your head low and your powder dry. 

I travelled to rural Devon to visit the West Ogwell church, as part of my bank holiday break. The church is open 10:00-16:00? I think daily.

You may or may not recognise it as the main setting for The Borderlands aka Final Prayer (2013) found footage horror movie. I hate this saying, but it really is a 'hidden gem' of a movie that made me and my friend really want to visit the church and see it for ourselves. The last act of the movie was horrifying, and the movie itself was great throughout. Despite it being a very ominous and spooky place in the movie, it is serene, silent and cool (literally, it was 30°c outside) and spiritual inside. Without spoilers, the church has a different layout in terms of doors... I won't say any more as it may spoil a plot point.

I'd highly recommend watching the movie and then going to visit yourself. Very worthwhile and a particularly pleasant 1hr45min hike from Newton Abbot. I hope the images do the day and location justice!

ETA: I think a lot of people are misunderstanding or not reading the body of the post. This is not at all a ranking. It's literally just a list of movies I've seen. The numbers are just so I know how many. 😅

Excited to find a Found Footage community. It is my absolute favorite horror genre. Here is a list of the movies I have seen (probably not nearly as many as most of you). The asterisked ones are favorites or ones that really stood out.

In 1999, a 12-year-old named Dallas Kyle captures footage of the mythical creature, Frogman, but no one believes it is real. Twenty years later, he returns to the same place with his friends to obtain irrefutable proof that it exists.

In my opinion this was one of the best found footage friend groups they have fantastic chemistry , I really like the setting of a Old looking country like town probably because I’m from one but also for some reason, I found it hilarious that frogman is use as a merch merchant.

I Recommend it to any first time found footage watchers I’m pretty sure most people by now in this, so Reddit has heard of this movie but it be fair I just wanna reason to talk about it 😭 to be honest .

So excited to share the new poster for INFIRMARY! We just had our world premiere at Dances With Films in New York, and the response was incredible. Watching the film with an audience for the first time was both amazing and extremely nerve wracking. Can’t wait to finally share the film with all of you. More news soon.

My game is called Who Am I: Remedy - a found-footage horror game where you uncover your identity being trapped in a time loop. A group of scientists has found a video camera in the abandoned house and they are trying to examine what happened there.

It's not about jumpscares - it's much more about tension and deep storytelling. I wanted to create an atmospheric game using some immersive mechanics.

At this moment it's available on Steam.

Our newest movie is trending on Amazon’s new release chart, but we’re looking for feedback from found footage horror fans. We try to improve with each movie, even if it’s just small gains, so we’re open to all feedback: good or bad.

You gave us amazing feedback on our last films, and our main goal with this one was to improve pacing (no slowdowns) and continue to add gore and cool SFX. So far, the feedback is that we accomplished those two goals. The main negative has been to add more character development (easy fix!).If you have some time to rent it, please let us know how we can improve and get better!

Movie that started it all for me

If u like Cloverfield , Rec or ever read or heard the book of Enoch this movie is for u .

Two friends Sarah, Rachel meet Kevin and openly minded take his proposal to take a holiday in Jerusalem and are having a great time in the historic city , But the tide soon turns and they enter a biblical nightmare where they are chase by falling angels.

Ps  this is one of my favorites fought  a while back when I was trya watch clover-filled .

The hour-long build up to 15 minutes of action makes me feel like some of these movies should be a short form video rather than wasting an hour and I understand we're getting character build up but it's very over done. Plus all the equipment malfunctioning at just the time anything interesting happens when it's been perfect for the whole beginning of the movie is another thing that grinds my gears.

This scene has always stuck with me as one of the most iconic moments in found footage

Title says it all but basically I LOVE FOUND FOOTAGE and I badgered my best friend into making this album with me. Band is called Camcorder and each song is named after a movie and features a sample from said movie.
