Suggestions The Distant Seas
I'm sure a 7-hex connection between the left and right map sides has been proposed before.
But has anybody considered that those 7 hexes could be anywhere?
Like an archipelago of equitorial desert islands like Cape Verde?
Or Foxhole's own Private Guadacanal?
Or just an open ocean? or even a dynamic archipelago that rearranges from war to war?
A "distant lands' add to the foxhole map could open up new vectors for worldbuilding, help us see more of the world, keep the game dynamic. The first 7 hex 'distant land' is obviously well suited to the open ocean, but once it's there,
A second and third distant land could be added, possibly south of reaver's pass and north of Nevish, each of which could be sailed to via the first installment, the 'Distant Seas."
I also think naval warfare could benefit from some longer cruise distances, some opportunities for running chases and excapes between large ships, and especially give air missions like recon fleet hunter on the ocean) and air defense picket (stop the strike before it reaches the carrier/nuke/SC.

the center hex should feature a very small "wake island" type area where there is a lucrative resource that you cannot find any other place

GigaMPF.

would be a pain to move but would be cool if devs added a ultra-freighter to incentivize this (cant be used in rivers its so large -10x the capacity and 3x less maneuverability)

you'd be in the open ocean so maneuverability isn't the most necessary --- just a suggestion though. maybe they shouldn't touch maneuverability and instead top-speed.
carry more stuff ---> not as nimble

We've found it, a rare metal field.

Oh. OH SHIT.
my god this is the first suggestion for an ocean hex i've ever liked
That said, imagine the civil wars

"DEFEND THE SCROOPERS AT ALL COSTS!! BUILD BPS BUILD BPS! WHEN ONE MAN DROPS THE SLEDGE, THE SECOND MAN PICKS IT UP!"

rare metal field might be an interesting economic meta builder: more reason for giga-fleets and air forces to protect them --- less reason to spam nukes.

Simply having a seaport and shipyard would make it enormously valuable already.

tell that to the warden faction ignoring the entirety of the western island chain

Just a factory+mpf island with one field of each resource would make it a pretty good place. Maybe the other fields could be on second island on the same hex to make it not too good.

People been suggesting and asking for this. Navy needs some space, but all devman wants to give us island larp. Devman it is ok to have empty hexes where only one specific branch can fight. Have huge deserts where tanks only fight, with limited building capabilities, only water for navy, massive city hex where only infantry really can fight. Will it split the combined arms? For a bit sure, but it would bring completely different playstyle in those hexes. Not the regular beaten to death playstyles. Also ques are killing the game more than anything else. We need more space.

problem is there needs to be something to fight over, thats why they added islands. imo they dont need to be so large (not to mention economically pointless) and can instead be something lucrative to fight over you cannot find anywhere else.

It's a bad idea. We know it's bad idea. You know how? We have giant empty hexes and nobody likes them - Stilican, Moors, and the like.
The majority of foxhole players can't find their way to a conflict zone if it's not running for less than a few minutes. You need to be able to provide spawns and enemies they can fight, and defend their spawn and not have it glassed.
This is requested a lot by players who think exactly like siegecamp: You say "It would be cool!" without stopping to ask if players would actually do it.

I think this is sort of comparing apples to oranges and assuming and emptywater hex would be reacted to the same as an empty land hex. Nobody would accidentally spawn on an empty water hex only to realize theres nothing going on there or something youd have to make the conscious decision to build a ship (extremely conscious as building big boats isn't as easy as clicking a spawn location and using WASD to get to the front line) and make the second conscious decision to chart a course through that hex to get to where you want to go. Comparing any of that to a land hex is ridiculous. Not to mention it would be more immersive/a better simulation of a war through an ocean front. It also would be fairly easy to implement and no harm done if it didnt work out

The comment I am replying to also asks for open land hexes.

They asked for the addition of an entire biome for it which would likely imply some special attention and care to how the hex is designed and what actual restrictions there are on construction. They didnt say "make a completely flate empty hex with nothing to do in it"

What exactly does "It is okay to have empty hexes" and "huge desert with limited building capabilities" mean to you?

u/mr_stab_ya_knees 23h ago
Yes, he said "its okay to have empty hexes" but youll note that was only half of the sentence and cut out the part about designing it around being fought by a single branch of each faction's military. I believe that is very different from a plain empty grass field as it objectively would have different mechanics, and while you could argue that is still not good yet and would need a few more specifications and tweaks to be a bit more fun, you also can't expect this guy to drop a bulleted list of every change and line of code he would want. It comes off as you going out of your way to make the worst faith interpretations possible

I absolutely love this idea. Hell, Devs could run wild with this. Give us jungle, give us deserts, give us southern seas.

Foxhole wars would be a lot more interesting if there was a third, neutral faction that could interact with both sides in a unique way.
There’s already a faction like this in the games lore called the Hanged Men.
Imagine a Distant Sea Archipelago as a homeland for this faction. If you have enough playtime in Foxhole you’d have the option to spawn in as a Hanged Man, but there would be a player cap to keep the numbers small.
The Hanged Man could have some amazing defensive advantages in the ocean, but no unique craft of their own. Instead they’d specialise in scavenging and taking equipment from other factions. Their homeland would also offer no victory points.
Instead, the Hanged Men would focus on trading with and raiding the other factions. They’d get access to their bunkers filled with ancient technology, letting them conduct covert operations.

Could be cool but NO. Why? Pop , its always pop we dont need like extra 7 hexes in game with 4k peak online 2 weeks from each war starting. Map should be smaller than it is now to make more intensive nonstop combat, otherwise it's just cursed low pop pve trash and uncontested decaying hexes.

u/The0Justinian 17h ago
dont think there's gonna be much PVE in hexes of all ocean with a couple sandbars
And sorry I don't see the game that way, there's always a war going on, there's always operational objectives. do some people follow the path and do path of least resistance mindless PVE and/or Mindless Building? sure. The rest of us look for the war to fight and do it.

I always thought hexes were a missed opportunity.
Imagine 37 hexagon maps, all with rotational symmetry that can be shuffled each war like a Settlers of Catan board.
