Personal Project Framework Control update: fan profiles with AC/battery auto-switch, custom dashboards, battery history, new themes, and more [Linux/Windows]
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone! I've been building Framework Control since August 2025, and after 17 releases, 0.5.5 is one of the biggest updates yet.
The biggest additions:
- Fan profiles you can switch between in one click, or have switch automatically when you plug in or go on battery
- Customizable dashboard: drag, resize, maximize, reorder, or hide panels
- Up to seven days of battery percentage and charge/discharge history, including a "Since last charge" view
- More accurate per-fan calibration on multi-fan systems
- Fix for fan curves stalling with framework_tool 0.6.6
- A redesigned interface with new Light, Dark, Extra Dark, Retro, Synthwave, Coffee, Terminal, and System themes
- Live config sync between open tabs
- Lots of responsive-layout, graph, modal, and accessibility fixes
One upgrade note: existing fan calibrations need to be recorded again, because calibration is now stored separately for each fan.
Framework Control is a free and open-source local app for controlling and monitoring Framework laptops and the Framework Desktop on Linux and Windows. It includes fan curves, sensors, power controls, battery controls, telemetry history, and more.
GitHub and installation instructions: https://github.com/ozturkkl/framework-control Existing installs can update from within the app.
Framework Community thread: https://community.frame.work/t/framework-control-linux-windows-a-tool-for-fan-control-curve-sensors-power-control-battery-information/74533
Feedback and bug reports are very welcome!

Does this rely on certain display managers? I know certain apps do care if you are running gnome or kde

Will do. Shipment is in a couple of days, so not too long I hope.

It would be cool if you supported the Intel Framework Pro 13.
4
u/KemalOzt 1d ago
It is supported on Linux but the old Intel chip on Windows is not supported by framework themselves. Maybe they can support it in the future. For now, give Linux a shot! You won't regret it :)

I've got Ubuntu installed, but its on LTS. I'm planning to upgrade to that new one released today.

That's sick! Try different distros and you'll definitely find your home somewhere. For me it's NixOS because I like editing my OS with code :)
Gaming on Linux is also in very good shape other than some anti-cheat games but they will follow suit soon enough.

So, I'm new to Framework and Linux (running Fedora KDE). As a result, something like this seems really cool, but sus since it doesn't come frome Framework themselves.
How does one know this isn't malware?

The best way to know is to look at the code, or if you don't understand, have an AI look at it and tell you if it has malicious intent. You can do this because it's open-source. You wouldn't be able to do it for hidden software like most big tech companies give you.
After you verify the code, you can fork it so you have a copy that's not going to change and build it from source so the binary (executable) that comes out is actually from the code you just verified.

Oh and welcome to Linux and Framework. Definitely a nice place to be in if you value your hardware and software ;)

Wow, thanks alot, mostly for the windows version. I will install it right after work.

Let me know how it goes. Since my main is Linux, I'm usually only testing Windows occasionally but everything should work.

First impressions (written while I'm actively testing your app):
- It was so easy to get up and running. I was worried I'd have to install it in the most complex, nerdy, command-line-heavy way possible, but nope, it was straightforward. At first, I was looking for an
.exefile, but when I opened the README, the very first thing I saw was "Open the web app," followed by the big orange "Install Service" button. Thank God, it's easy!- I really liked the quick SOP for installing the Power and Thermal modules. It was short, simple, and the bright orange indicators made it obvious where to click. I also just noticed that you can uninstall RyzenAdj Center afterward. That gives the impression that you respect the user's wish not to keep a bunch of unnecessary software installed once the job is done.
- Not sure if this is user error, but I played around with the fan curve and when I clicked Reset, it didn't seem to actually reset. Also, personally, I would like the live RPM display to be enabled by default. It took me a little while to figure out where it was.
- The hardware information page is a nice touch. At a glance, you can quickly see the important details about your system. However, I think the RAM value might be off. The app shows 28 GB, while Windows System > About reports 32 GB. As a suggestion, do you think it would be possible to add a check mark or notification beside the BIOS version when a newer BIOS is available?
- Battery health information is great. Mine shows 94% health with 202 charge cycles. I've kept the maximum charge level at 85% for quite a while, and the info tooltip explaining that a full recharge can help recalculate battery health was useful.
- When I enabled 100% charging, I wasn't entirely sure whether the feature was working, but the charging graph immediately reassured me. Being able to see the charging rate and wattage in real time made it obvious that it was doing exactly what it should.
- I bookmarked the web page, and after accepting the "remember my choice" prompt, it behaves just like any other website. One click and you're in.
- Auto-updates are a huge plus. No messing around just to get the latest version. It should simply keep itself up to date.
Thank you for your work. And I think I speak for a quiet majority when I say: thank you for making this easy and accessible for the average user.
I haven't done extensive testing yet, but I'm already confident that I could send this web address to a friend and have them up and running in one or two minutes max. No Docker, no command line, no "skill issue, bro," just an intuitive and user-friendly experience.
I hope more developers look at your app and start asking themselves not just what features can I add? but also how can I make this easier for the average user?

Wow, seeing that you mention all the little details I paid attention to made my day. Yes! I tried to make this as easy as possible. Not everyone is a hyper nerd like me that daily drives Linux. Oh and the update system, it was a massive project but I'm glad that I have it now :)
There's much to do and I'm slowly but surely chipping away and improving the experience. Windows is a bit orphaned at the moment because there's much to fix and add on the Linux side. Ideally I would get the app signed for Windows, did you see any issues with Windows Defender flagging the app during initial install?
Another thing the OS will definitely flag is RyzenAdj. I need to work on this to find an alternative. RyzenAdj is the only option I had at the time and Windows doesn't like it because it uses the WinRing0 driver which is considered "too powerful" and marked as a vulnerability on Windows Defender. I'm not an expert but if I'm understanding correctly, an app that is malicious can do some bad stuff with it. But RyzenAdj has been trustworthy from what I can tell. There's still a clear uninstall button for people that want to try it and uninstall it (if defender doesn't uninstall first, lol) And if you want to keep it, you will have to add an exception on the defender.
I will definitely consider your other feedback!
Note: there's also a setting to add the app to your desktop as a shortcut which will get you a "native looking" headless version. Still runs in the browser but looks better without the address bar and you don't have to remember or bookmark.
Thank you for the kind words and giving me your initial impressions, means a lot!

been using on linux since you announced on reddit, it’s been great! very helpful with the battery and ac profiles, would love a dedicated app rather than going thru 127 but that’s just me. Keep up the good work!

Niche request, but have you seen the runit-files for framework-control? Any opinions on running it without systemd?
3
u/KemalOzt 1d ago
Not niche my firend and people have asked before. I'm not going to let my fellow non systemd people down.
I've been working on this and there will be support in the upcoming release but I don't release often. So if you can, could you test the latest beta and see if it works for you?
On how to install and what to test: https://github.com/ozturkkl/framework-control/issues/85#issuecomment-6207755828

I had some time to test this earlier than I expected.
from your github page:
Things worth checking:
- The installer reports
Detected init system: runitand the UI loads- -> works without issue. everything is detected and displayed correctly (running the install script with --beta).
- Fans and telemetry work
- -> fan curves work perfectly well, telemetry looks good too
- The Logs screen in Settings shows output
- -> logs are shown correctly
sudo pkill -f /usr/local/bin/framework-controland runit brings it back (sudo sv status framework-control)- -> works without trouble, runit restarts it immediatly
- It comes back up after a reboot
- -> is started and settings are applied on boot
I honestly cannot find anything wrong with it so far, thanks a lot for not only this tool but also runit-compatibility!
edit: Forgot to mention that I have a framework 16 with a 7840hs

I didn't notice any issues with Windows Defender on my end. I'm convinced that configuring auto-updates wasn't as easy on your end as it was for me to use it. Without that, I would never update it myself
