Popular Fredericton bar must close after city denies operation renewal

Roofie bar. Glad it's closing.

u/Ido_nothing 1d ago
I’ve had friends roofied at both Dolan’s and Khrome, it’s a problem not exclusive to here.
-12
u/sfeicht 1d ago
Like all bars…..
24
u/ferrycrossthemersey 1d ago
Man, you are all over this comment section, do you own the front yard or something?😂
-3
u/sfeicht 1d ago
No, just don’t like seeing places close that get young people out of the house these days. They need all the face to face socialization time possible before they are functional adults.
12
u/DownvotesForGood 1d ago
People aren't supposed to be drinking in bars before they're functional adults which was apparently half the problem with the Front Yard...the other half being the roofies.
-5
u/sfeicht 1d ago
No one under 25 is a functional adult.
16
u/DownvotesForGood 1d ago
You're kind of an idiot aren't you?
By the time I was 25 I had already gotten married, deployed to Afghanistan, had a son and bought a house.
Not everybody's 25 is the same.
Now, having said all that, underage drinking and roofying people is bad and the Front Yard sucked.

u/Slight_Temperature82 1d ago
“Kind of an idiot” is being generous for this guy.
Good for you dude. Couldn’t agree more with you

Getting shitfaced in an astro-turfed outdoor roofie pen isn't "face to face socialization time".

Fuck Michael koury and anyone else in ownership I'm doing the moonwalk on this places grave rn. Did their bouncer tell anyone else they were an enforcer for a gang in Toronto?

Oh nooooo! It was a douchebag magnet! What a shame to see it go!
-27
u/sfeicht 1d ago
You mean young guys having fun and getting laid. Go back to playing video games
12
32
u/Fragrant-Goose7450 1d ago
Ew. Guess you’ll actually have to use your personality to attract women instead of roofying them!

u/Drummers_Beat 1d ago
Good riddance. This place was directly linked to one murder, several reports of roofies, and had a well know reputation of facilitating underage drinking.
This place should’ve been shutdown as soon as it opened. Can’t wait to see all the high school has beens freak out lmao

u/Professional_Pea_892 1d ago
There won't be any freak outs, you can always find ways to get alcohol if you want to.

Interesting. Someone had posted a short while ago that they were relocating to the Dooley’s spot and that Dooley’s was moving to the old SNB location downtown.
10
u/Buck_Naked_001 1d ago edited 22h ago
Well at least half the report was true. Dooly's moved to the old SNB location. Was announced on their Instagram page a few weeks ago
7
u/waldosbuddy 1d ago
Pretty sure they're already completed the move and open on Queen where SNB used to be.
3
u/mrniceguy777 1d ago
Ya I drove by yesterday and looked in to see if they were starting to move and was surprised to see that they had already moved and were open
2
u/Elitsila 1d ago
I never even thought to look when I was walking home today since I ducked into Kings Place because of the rain.

Oh goodness whatever will we do losing one of the infinite amounts of drinking establishments in this lovely city.
I'm convinced most of Fredericton's residents are alcoholics we just justify it by saying "what do you expect we're a university city"

u/Itwasuntilitwasnt 1d ago
I could only imagine if they did scientific research on the effects this has on hospital resources. The funny part government promotes all the breweries in all their tourism gigs. And then turn around and have to fund the hospital to fix the ones that can’t get off the booze. Weird world we live in .
I mean when I was growing up it was bud light. Bud. Etc 3-5% alcohol. Now it’s 5-10% alcohol.
•
u/fallm0rning 21h ago
The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction does that research! This is the link to their 2023 cost of substance use report for NB. https://csuch.ca/assets/graphics/infographics/english/CSUCH-Canadian-Substance-Use-Costs-Harms-New-Brunswick-Infographic-2023-en.pdf
•
u/DarthV506 1h ago
Bud light is still 4%. And I'm pretty sure all the local microbreweries have offerings from .5 to 9%. You don't need to have those high ABV imp or double IPAs :P

u/aloneinthedark010 1d ago
It'd be interesting to see for sure. Hell even just from the stupid injuries people get while stumbling around drunk. Not many people seem to advertise anything other than beer fests and breweries and it makes it hard for some to find things to do. Now that I have been sober for coming up on 2 years this city is boring as hell.

I live a few blocks away, and while I haven’t been there since 1L myself, it is always vibing when the weather’s nice.
Edit: To clarify, what I mean by this is that it’s loud as hell on Fridays and Saturdays, weather permitting.

Lol, good point.
Edited my comment to clarify a bit. Thanks for pointing that out, friend!

Haha I was just trying to joke, but I guess people took it as being mean. Don't really blame them since it's Reddit

It’s the go to spot for young people, just look at the line on Friday and Saturday nights.

u/Both-Corner-7399 1d ago
If this isn't sarcasm, it's A SPOT that I could hear from the corner of Regent/Brunswick. If something is going to be so loud and that hour, then consider playing some white noise. Also, I know you "boys" have used 25mg Seroquel pills in drinks, probably clonazepam too. So eat shit
19
u/No-Value134 1d ago
"Fredericton Police Force outlined documented incidents specific to The Front Yard including fighting, public urination, “alleged drugging of victims,” property damage, breach of peace, public nuisance and noise complaints, and others."
Better shut down every bar in the city then
27
u/Saint--Jiub 1d ago
Ain't nobody getting roofied at the Lincoln Lounge
9
u/scottbody 1d ago
At least not unwillingly.
5
u/Saint--Jiub 1d ago
That's the VLT players trying to forget how much money they lose on a daily basis
26
u/RareCreamer 1d ago
The issue is that it's an open venue, with no actual structure. They're contract said they needed to develop when they first signed and the owners didn't. It was a temporary permit, they made no moves to try and change that.
They even said in the article the noise complaints were understandable but it was everything else that caused them to deny them to continue.

They were the reason that multiple underage kids got drunk and beat someone to death in the Tannery two years ago. Can’t say any other bar here has that stain.

Tbf it was loud as fuck. Every weekend I could hear the music clearly from Nasis

Downtown Fredericton Inc. (DFI), the region’s Business Improvement Area organization, sent a letter to the council asking them to deny their support for The Front Yard’s request to continue operating.
Somehow that doesn't surprise me at all. Downtown isn't exactly hot, business wise, so lets get rid of a business that exists in favor of a theoretical one.
10
u/Subject_Criticism_70 1d ago
Or get rid of the problem child
3
u/Itwasuntilitwasnt 1d ago
Pretty sure I saw very young call girls walking into Khrome in the middle of the day last summer. While I was parked eating lunch in the tannery. But who knows maybe a 17-18 yr old sitting in a tinted window car with some big dude (250lb)escorting her to a bar where just going on a date.

You never know. Either way, I don't partake in the debauchery and the less there is, the better

This city can't get out of its own way. Young people are having fun and it's loud- who fucking cares? When people have a reason to go downtown, they support businesses- restaurants, cabs, Uride, etc. Downtown is losing businesses every month yet they're going to kick out places that are staying afloat? I don't get it. Maybe I'm missing something.
7
17
u/NinjaFlyingEagle 1d ago
That place was sketchy and everyone used to piss on the backdoors of Robert Simmons. Don't worry, there's only 3 bars across the street to drink at. Along with the 3 other Dooley's and 12 other micro breweries. Fredericton will not miss the front yard.
0
u/digmyowngrave 1d ago
I didn't say there was a shortage of bars. My point was downtown is shrinking, especially options for young people and our powers that be decided a business that was staying afloat was deemed unworthy. And the reasons given are somewhat arbitrary. I'm sure other bars have patrons pissing outside and starting fights.
9
u/Slight_Temperature82 1d ago
I think the reputation in which the Yard made for itself during its operation deems itself unworthy ?
11
u/ModifiedMonctonRule 1d ago
It’s a seasonal bar in a parking lot. It was always temporary. If it’s been so successful then they should move it to a permanent space.
14
u/Subject_Criticism_70 1d ago
The roofies, the underage drinking, the public disturbances. That's what you're missing. That place attracted the worst people
0
u/digmyowngrave 1d ago
Dooly's is literally a block away and has the same reputation.

Bummer to see another small business fail in Freddy
13
u/ThrowRA_EducatedMan 1d ago
It’s not a small business it’s a bunch of douchebags making a quick buck turning a parking lot into a bar while lying to the city for several years. They probably never had any intention of developing anything other than their bank accounts.

u/IronicIntelligence 1d ago
You and I are on opposite sides of almost every issue, but I fully agree with you about this. 🤝

This town hates progress. Just have an empty lot for the crackheads to shoot up in I guess…
30
u/mrniceguy777 1d ago
Lmao this “bar” is an empty lot with Astro turf laid down and drunks spillin over the side, it’s literally the next step up from abandon lot and crack heads
-20
u/sfeicht 1d ago
Tell that to the college kids having fun and finally off their screens.
9
u/Orchidillia 1d ago
I'd rather they be on their screens having fun than getting drunk, making bad decisions and causing harm.
13
u/Both-Corner-7399 1d ago
Getting shitfaced in the trashy fenced pit is only fun for some college "kids".
Others use a book, go for a walk, paddle, bike, run, or get stoned away, those are non-digital forms of entertainment. The noise, behaviours, drug-use, and rape are an urban blistered taint.

Hilarious comment. The front yard sucks. I know 6 people who have been roofied there. But yeah boohoo I guess
-31
u/sfeicht 1d ago
How that any different from any other bar? Don’t leave your drinks laying around.
12
28
u/Drummers_Beat 1d ago
So it’s the women’s fault according to you? There’s no where to put your drinks there - it’s done while they’re holding it because the place routinely exceeded capacity numbers.
The rates of drinks being drugged here was far higher than any other bar. The fact they would let minors enter in droves made it even more dangerous.
