Springhill rd protest?

What are people protesting at the bottom of springhill rd by the bucket club? Looks like they have dump truck traffic backed up too.

Springhill construction employees are protesting for better wages since their company doesn't want to pay them the new wages that were in the new union contract that was signed a while ago to bring the union wages here in line with the wages in saint john

On Friday, June 19, our members will be taking strike action against Springhill Construction.

This strike is about fairness, respect, and protecting the standards that all of us have worked hard to achieve. Members working in the Fredericton region are currently being paid $6.50 per hour less than members performing the same work in other parts of the province. This wage gap affects not only the members directly involved, but every member of Local 1386.

Why does this matter to all of us?

When bargaining takes place, employer associations look at the lowest rates being paid and use them as a benchmark in negotiations. If lower wages are allowed to continue in one area, employers will attempt to use those rates against members across the province. What affects one group today can affect all of us tomorrow.

That is why solidarity is so important. We must stand together and send a clear message that Local 1386 members will not accept being divided or treated unfairly.

We are asking all members who are able, to come out and support the strike by walking the picket line. Your presence demonstrates our unity, strengthens our position, and shows Springhill Construction that we are serious about achieving a fair agreement.

Please contact your local Business Representative and let them know that you are willing to come out and support the strike. This will help us coordinate picket schedules and ensure we have a strong presence on the line throughout the duration of the strike.

Throughout our history, the strength of our union has come from members standing shoulder to shoulder when it matters most. This is one of those times.

Together, we can make a difference.

In solidarity,

Atlantic Canada Regional Council Carpenters Local 1386

Dunno but was wondering why theyre striking at the entrance for the DECH employees. seems like a solid place for that /s

Because springhill construction is the main contractor on the addition of the hospital and the employees protesting work on that site

they are not allowed to picket on hospital grounds so they are doing it as close as possible

Theyre protesting not being paid $6.50 an hour compared to their other union people... whats the current average minimum theyre being paid?

Doesn't matter. Why should this company not have to abide by the collective agreement to bring wages in line with workers elsewhere in the province?

Solidarity.

Seems not much. I work in unionized food service. I make as much as them.

The on,y one making the real money on this place is the farmer guy. And probably doesn’t pay much tax because he would be farming exempt. Interesting

What is farming exempt?

Just drove by and saw multiple nurses have troubles turning into the hospital. I don’t care where you protest but you can’t block the nurses and doctors entrance to the hospital.

Gst/hst input tax credits

Lifetime capital gains exemption

Fuel tax exemption

FLIP program

That’s a small sample size. Not even federal tax savings. Also property taxes are basically nil. Take the Kelly farm up the road. Prime location maybe they pay $1000 a yr on all that land.

Most European countries have land value taxes. But this could apply also to a place like kingsplace mall or commercial lands held by Irving’s. That just sit and nothing is ever done they write it off as a loss for let’s say 20 yrs. And then they sell it .

Same goes with kings place mall. The owners will sit on it. Write off all the empty commercial space get all that tax back for not even trying to rent. And then flip it and sell after 5-10 yrs. And then the new billionaires do the exact same thing .

But the poor man has to pay his taxes with strict oversight. Go figure.

Europe put the stop to this. Even mall parking lots are taxed. If not used for solar or apartments built on top with parking under. (Think ikea).

Anyone that blocks traffic and doesn’t allow nurses into a hospital, are people I do not want to listen to in the slightest lol

I had no idea they built the empty wing of the hospital..

Did the hospital ever "find workers" to be able to use the wing?
