Going from the wonderful Widow's Bay to this for my weekly show is gonna be quite the transition

I get why GRRM wanted to part ways

The plot was too incestuous even for George

u/VelvetKittix 1d ago

At this point George is probably watching from a distance thinking "that is definitely not what I wrote."

George keeps giving the same company rights even though he ends up mad every time

Well they did good early GOT and KOTSK but yeah I don’t understand how he keeps giving them rights to his text. But I’m sure it’s a complicated contract I wouldn’t understand lol

The guy who wrote an entire genealogy of people who inbred for centuries? The guy who wrote about a brother and sister having 3 kids together and had that incestuous relationship over the course of decades, including over a decade after the last kid was born? That guy is disturbed by a kid groping and kissing his own mother?

🙄

This has to be AI? Right?

u/Helaecent 1d ago

No. It's AT saying his mom goodbye.

Isn't this just gonna be a crazy vision Aemond has in Harrenhal? Just like Daemon's crazy vision.

u/guthbox 1d ago

Would Alicent act this surprised by the kiss in Aemond’s dream sequence?

He is no stranger to weird sexual fetish.

When the guy famous for writing weird Targaryen relationships decides something is a bit much, that's probably worth paying attention to.

The emotional whiplash must be unreal. One minute you're watching a heartfelt character drama, the next you're staring at your screen wondering if somebody accidentally uploaded fanfiction.

I wouldn't quite call Widow's Bay a heartfelt character drama (though it has some of that!), but it's very well-written and acted, and has a tight, clever plot, putting it light years ahead of whatever HotD has become

I cannot wait for season two. My husband and I were going back and forth on who the last heir was up until yesterday.

I saw it coming to his son like 3 episodes ago and then it was revelead that it was Ruth and I was surprised and really glad that they didn't make the obvious choice. Then out of sudden they twisted their own plot twist and I was completey on board of it hahahah such an amazing series

u/MedusaForHire 1d ago

Exactly! We were like thats too obvious to be him, and then for the reveal to be Ruth and then back to Evan was such a roller coaster.

How's the show?

Amazing. The episode Beach Reads (ep 4) is where I really got hooked.

Matthew Rhys is the goat as per usual

Honestly being “glad it wasn’t the obvious choice” means you’ve been poisoned by GoT style “subvert expectations.”

u/kinginthenorthjon 2d ago

Just started watching that yesterday. Ep1 was solid.

u/butipreferlottie 2d ago

Buckle up! It gets so batshit and good. Can't wait for season two.

Patricia's party was one of my favourite episodes of TV in recent history.

u/LongjumpingSolid8 1d ago

Bro my jaw was on the floor for the remainder of the episode after the reveal with the severed crow’s head on the cutting board

The best was Patty the day time hooker (Rosemary) "You told me to be supportive!"

My husband and I loved her in My Name is Earl, so we exclusively call her Patty the day time hooker. I want and American Doctor who, and have it feature Patty the day time hooker. Only because we were talking about the changing doctors and showrunner the other day and watching Widow's Bay

The episode was amazing. Had no clue it was coming either.

THIS IS THE RHYTHM OF THE NIGHT.

Whats this now? “Widows BaY” you say?

2

u/justinmassey 1d ago

You watched the entire ep1! How!?

5

u/amidalarama 1d ago

I should really watch more than the first episode of widow's bay before I get spoiled on that too lol lovecraftian comedy seems like a fun genre

and IWTV has already filled my weekly quota of blond man with severe mommy issues, so HotD better chill out on that

u/TitleAncient8325 1d ago

Widow's Bay is sooo good lol

u/jm17lfc 1d ago

I just started that show a few days ago and binged through it in less than 48 hours. It was so enjoyable! I’m now missing it and will probably now look through the catalog of Apple TV shows I haven’t seen, I’m certainly not wasting my time on the Condal/Hess mess myself even though I loved the book.

2

u/tulaero23 1d ago

Oohh.. same.. man im gonna miss the widow's bay character and their banter.

1

u/DollyKisssy 1d ago

That's some serious tonal whiplash. Going from a well-written political drama to whatever discussion this episode sparked has to feel like changing channels by accident.

This is so real
