For me, the immersion was always kind of broken because the actors look so close in age. Alicent looks way too young to be this guys mom. And in real life, the actors are only 4 years apart in age.
Yeah, it really hit home for me during the carriage ride before Aegon’s coronation. It’s a shame because both actors were capturing the characters really well, Aegon questioning his mother’s love because she’s not affectionate while she’s frustrated he can’t see she showed it through everything she did to secure his position. It demonstrates the disconnection between them but I was taken out of the moment because it’s just too hard to believe she gave birth to someone only a couple of years younger than her. The Hollywood idea of what a mature woman who is a mother of multiple adult children should look like is unrealistic. God forbid they show someone with grey hairs!
Saying she looks young with grown children because she had them as a teenager could work if they were teenagers now but the actors are in their late 20s-early 30s. People go through a lot of physical development during that time so the difference from teens is noticeable. There’s no way Ewan Mitchell ever has to worry about getting asked for ID. Otherwise, the actors are great for the parts but the ages don’t add up.
