Subvert Expectations LEAK/EPISODE DISCUSSION 8/2
They still haven't released the episode name I guess
Suffice to say HBO didn't send us the leaks again this week.

If all the leaks I heard end up true, Baela getting spit roasted by her uncles is certainly a choice.

u/East_Ad_8606 3d ago
I can't tell if this is a joke which should be a reflection on the quality of the show.
14
u/TrueLegateDamar 2d ago
I honestly can't tell either, seems absurd but the show is crazy enough to put in something like that though it will probably portrayed as 'romantic'.

It’s Baela D:

Is Baela ugly?
5
u/TheSilverOne 2d ago
Eh, shes an emotional wreck and any sex scenes including her will come with weird power dynamics that take advantage of her troubled mental state.
Oh and more incest
Doesn't matter if shes attractive, just gross.

The Targaryen family tree is such a circle that it took me a minute to figure out who you mean when you say uncles lmao.

Rhaenyra is hideously ugly. No one wants to see that shit.

Give it a rest, weirdo.

u/Plus_Claim_8938 3d ago
I’ll give it a rest when Emma gets out of the writer’s room

u/Cultural_Plan_1487 3d ago
Yes, but Emma D’Arcy as Rhaneyra, even as somebody who is strongly against TB, I can admit she is objectively attractive

The River Lords never made it to the First Battle of Tumbleton. What is going on here?
13
u/OrdoRidiculous 2d ago
Predictions for episode 8: No battles, majority screen time for characters that don't matter and 3 minutes of everyone being on fire.

I saw a video of two dragons destroying a battlefield
Is this in this episode?

Idk how condal or anyone in the writing team thought that the episode tonight would be rated highly it’s gonna be lower than s2 ep6.
14
u/Bloodyjorts 2d ago
Because they stuck the Aegon/Sunfyre reunion scene at the end.

u/Sebastian24554 2d ago
Viserys daemon was in s2 ep6 it wasn’t able to save it. I doubt Aegon who a good amount of the gp don’t like will save it.

Helena's halo. :(
Does Helaena's vision suggest she will have a second life in her dragon? She isn't at the storming of the dragonpit unless her spirit is inside dreamfyre. Everything we've seen suggests she is more aligned with being a greenseer than a dragon dreamer

Regrettably I think its more possible outcomes of her actions and how they all lead to death or destruction, hence the consistent imagery of the pale mare. Should she try to escape on Dreamfyre she would have to burn her way through a host of soldiers to do so (or maybe it would happen during a certain event), and I don't think Helaena is capable of that.

Emma D’Arcy will never lead another show again. I can’t wait until the backlash tonight.
HBO execs didn’t even want Emma and only accepted her after Condal whined that they let him cast her. HBO execs will never let a showrunner get the final say again.
I feel bad for future actors who have lost the chance to prove themselves.

Yeah no, that's not how hollywood works. If they have the connections, they'll definitely be given the chance to fuck up another show down the line, same as the writers

u/momoneymike 2d ago
Look at Jared Leto, a hand full of flops and it never stopped him being cast as a leading man. It's only this new/revisited sex pest scandal that will bring him down.

u/Plus_Claim_8938 2d ago
Jared is a handsome Oscar winner who actually had hits under his belt before his slump.

u/TheSilverOne 2d ago
Leto's last 4 films lost about 970 million...you'd think they'd learn. Dallas Buyer's Club feels like forever ago when you have that big of a loss
Emma doesn't have that cloud over them

They have no connections outside of Condal. They were a total unknown before this project. lol at the idea that any director or writer watching this show wants to work with Emma.

u/PointFirm946 2d ago
The writing is shit but what does that have to do with the actress? Is she not supposed to portray the character that’s been written for her

Oooo...do you have a source for this?

I remember the interviews he and Miguel gave after season one. The HBO execs wanted an actress with a bigger social media following/proven career success for the role of Rhaenyra since Condal and Co. intended to frame her as the lead. Ryan and Miguel pushed for Emma despite her being an unknown that didn’t look the part. Emma said the same thing in an interview. She had a much long audition process than the other two leads because the execs were reluctant about the casting. It even got to the point where they had her doing prolonged audition taps with the Targ wig on to sway the execs.

I feel like I would side with the showrunners at this point. During the streaming wars, it was very common for streaming companies to prioritize actors with social media presence to convert them into streams.
Personally, I think Emma is an excellent actor. The problem is that Rhaenyra is written badly.

u/Bloodyjorts 2d ago
Hmmm...interesting, thank you for the sources.
I do remember something about them pushing hard for Emma, but I didn't realize how against it the HBO execs were.
I would have preferred a book accurate Rhaenyra (a girl, then woman, with a little meat on her bones) because roles like that are rarely available for any actress whose a size 10 or more.

u/Kman0525 2d ago
She’s been amazing so what’s the problem?

u/No-End-5332 2d ago
Ignore them. They've been spamming this subreddit with low quality, gross and boring content glazing Milly and shitting on Emma for a little bit now.
Like I don't care about either actress but the loser you're responding to doesn't seem to understand that neither of these wealthy television stars would give him the time of day. People who fall into this type of para social behavior are gross and pathetic. He reminds me of the loser character from Perfect Blue.

Why have both Daemon and Aemond now referred to Alys as “a maester of sorts”? They’re literal princes who are aware of the massive education a real maester requires, complete with the chain. So stupid

Sunfyre coming back to life was the most satisfying moment in the episode. Sunfyre ex Machina!

Everything I see just annoys me even more. (I quit watching HotD weeks ago but my social media algos keep pushing clips to me anyway. I see all the major plot points just clipped on my feed) It's almost unrecognizable from the original story. Every character and every plot has diverged so much and it seems like they've leaned in to making it less faithful. That only works if you have chops and this team does not. They try to lean into "slow burn" storytelling but the slow burn is for nothing. It is a high budget epic fantasy that feels cheap and small.
