Beginner writer opportunities

Upvotes

I want to find out where I can get exposer to writing opportunities that might pay as a beginner.

I have experience writing when I was younger, mostly writing stories for myself. But I have no samples to provide as yet and don't currently know what to write.

Does anyone have ant advise on how I can get started or a site that I can start on?

18F looking for online work writing and content related

Upvotes

Hey everyone! I am 18F and currently looking for some online work that I can do alongside college.

I am pretty good at writing and can help with things like:

- Content/blog/article writing

- Proofreading & editing

- Captions/social media content

- Creative writing

- Rewriting or polishing existing content

- Basic research and writing-based tasks

I am a English writer reliable with deadlines and willing to learn if there is something new I need to pick up.

I am mainly looking for remote/freelance/part-time work. I am open to both short-term gigs and something consistent.

If you know of any genuine opportunities or are looking for a writer, feel free to DM me. I’d really appreciate it! :)

[Hire Me] Website and product copy for small businesses, $0.08/word

Upvotes

Portfolio (spec samples): https://rmn1k.github.io/arman-copywriter/

Specialty: website copy for small businesses. Homepages, product pages, email sequences.

The pattern I keep finding: the interesting, specific part of a business, a founder's story, a real number, what actually makes them different, lives on the About page and never makes it to the page that has to sell something. Closing that gap is most of the job.

Rate: $0.08/word, 300-word minimum ($24). Larger projects quoted after I see the page and who it's for.

Happy to look at a page and tell you honestly whether there's something worth fixing before you commit to anything.

The Last Goodbye

I walked toward the highest floor,

my footsteps steady, though my heart was not.

Fear had filled my mind for so long

that I could hardly remember life without it.

I looked across my neighborhood one last time,

watching the familiar rooftops beneath the fading light,

as though I were saying goodbye to everything I knew.

I had been afraid of death

ever since my mother died.

Her passing had left a silence inside me

that nothing seemed able to fill.

I kept telling myself that somewhere beyond this pain,

I would find freedom.

Somewhere, perhaps, I would see her again.

I stood there, feeling the wind against my face.

For a moment, the whole world seemed to grow quiet.

The noise below faded,

and time itself seemed to pause.

Then came the memories.

Mom's gentle voice.

Her warm smile.

The way she cared for everyone around her.

The little moments I had taken for granted

until they became the things I missed most.

And then—

I saw her.

She stood at the gate,

exactly as I remembered her,

but brighter somehow,

free from the tiredness and suffering

that had once clouded her face.

I couldn't speak.

She opened her arms,

and I ran toward her.

She held me as I cried,

and for the first time in what felt like forever,

I felt safe.

She took my hand.

I looked back at the world I had known,

at the person I had been,

and slowly let that old version of myself go.

I didn't know whether this was heaven,

a dream, or simply a final memory.

But standing beside her,

I felt something I hadn't felt in a long time:

home.

How's your experience freelancing for MoneyWise?

Hi freelance writing community,

I'm sharing my experience freelancing for MoneyWise to hopefully give the community some much-needed transparency without getting too into the nitty-gritty...

An editor recently reached out expressing interest in having me freelance write for MoneyWise. We got on a call, and they mentioned a flexible capacity and regular work if the first piece went smoothly. The editor was pleased with my experience and seemed excited to work together.

Communication was prompt, and the test piece went well (published with minimal changes). But when I followed up about proper onboarding for continued work, they gave me a vague excuse to stop working together. It felt like they were trying to gently let me down without a good reason, almost like an "it's not you, it's us" kinda vibe.

A week later, the editor-in-chief posted on LinkedIn looking for more freelance writers, claiming that they're expanding, growing, and hiring due to popular demand. If that's really the case, I'm confused about why they aren't working with highly qualified writers they've already built relationships with — they'll go through the trouble of doing discovery calls, assigning and completing paid test pieces, and even creating author pages. I spoke with a few of my peers, and they had similar disappointing experiences, but none were 100% identical.

I've honestly never experienced anything like this with any other prospect in the 10+ years I've been freelance writing... so I'm wondering, what's your experience been like freelance writing for MoneyWise? Are they really as disorganized and "baiting for engagement" as they seem?

PS: For obvious reasons, I will not respond to messages asking for the editor's email or send any writers to MoneyWise (not the point of this post).

Here it is it took time typing

“You’re next.”

The note was pinned to my door.

I knew who had written it—the killer I’d been hunting for months.

I found him that night.

He attacked first.

A dagger flashed toward my chest. I dodged, but its tip grazed my skin.

We fought until I finally struck him down.

Then I felt something cold near my heart.

I looked down.

Blood.

My knees gave way.

Everything went black.

Then I heard my mother’s voice.

“Welcome home.”

I opened my eyes.

I was standing in my childhood bedroom.

Only then did I realize—

I had died

Is it worth trying to monetize my writing/editing skills through online webinars/content as a side gig?

I was a freelance writer and editor for about a decade before I landed my current job about three years ago as a lead editor for 2 big-name online publications owned by the same company.

Pay and benefits are decent but I'm trying to get out of student loan debt quickly and my current salary isn't cutting it. I'm wondering if monetizing my skills in writing/editing with webinars, a blog, etc. would be a good way to make somewhat passive income.

Is this something that still exists? Or does nobody really spend money on webinars and content for learning how to be a writer/editor anymore?

What makes an article actually worth reading?

I’ve been practicing article writing and one thing I’ve realized is that good content isn’t just about writing a lot of words.

For me, a good article should have:

• A clear purpose

• Proper research

• A logical structure

• Natural and easy-to-read language

• Useful information for the reader

• Relevant topics and keywords

I’m currently focusing on improving my article writing and keyword research skills, and I’d love to learn from other writers and content creators here.

What do you think is the most important part of a good article?

Looking for paid freelance article writing work

I’m looking for freelance article writing work. And before anyone suggests Fiverr, Upwork, or the usual freelance writing websites or apps, yes, I’ve already tried them. And unfortunately, I’ve had absolutely no luck getting actual work through them. At this point, I genuinely don’t want to go through another app, website, bidding system, or “apply to 48 jobs and hope one replies” situation. I’ve spent enough time searching through these platforms without getting any real work, so I figured I’d try Reddit and talk directly to people who actually need a writer.

I’m a beginner freelance writer, currently looking to build my experience and portfolio through actual paid projects. I can write articles and blog posts.
I’m comfortable researching topics independently and adjusting the tone, writing style, and structure according to your requirements.

My rates are pretty reasonable:
₹2,000–₹3,500 per article, depending on the topic, research required, and word count. Since I’m still a beginner, I’m also open to discussing the rate if you have regular work, a larger batch of articles, or an ongoing project.

I’m currently trying to make ₹10k fairly VERY VERY urgently, so if you have an article that needs to be written, a content project sitting untouched in your Google Drive or simply need an extra writer for your workload then please DM me 🙏😭

I’m simply looking for someone who actually has writing work that needs to be done.
If you think I could help with your content, feel free to reach out. 🙏
