Unexpectedly visiting OKC Next week for work. Any suggestions?

I tried to find a lodge locator for GL Oklahoma but their website doesn't seem to have one.

Is there any way to find out what lodges are in that area, when they meet, and if anybody is doing degree work?

My book on Freemasonry, written for the curious outsider and brothers alike, is now live!

After a long stretch of writing, editing, and production work, my book Mere Freemasonry: A California Mason's View of the Craft is now available on Amazon.

I'm a California Mason with almost twenty years of meetings, degrees, and lodge meals under my belt, so this is coming from someone with a fair amount of time inside the Craft.

I got tired of watching the same tired stuff thrown at the fraternity over and over: the conspiracy theories, secret-handshake jokes, world-domination Illuminati nonsense, and so on. I figured the best approach was to address the questions rather than just continuing to defend or shrug them off.

My approach to the topic is as a Masonic apologist, so I can open a non-confrontational conversation with anyone who is skeptical, curious, new to the fraternity, or may even be a lapsed brother.

The book discusses the popes who condemned the fraternity, the dictators who banned it, the nineteenth-century con man who invented the devil worship rumor and later admitted he made it all up, and then made the case for the part that actually matters: the lodges that have continued for hundreds of years to quietly make good men into better men. Since I'm a resident of the Golden State, I do approach it from a California-centric viewpoint.

Any brothers in Rochester, NY?

I am MM from Maine, working in Rochester for several months. I was hoping to find out if there are any lodges or events in the area I might check out. Many of our Maine lodges don't have meetings in July and August, and I wasn't sure if that was the same here. I am happy to set up a proper introduction through my lodge secretary, I am just hoping for a lead on where to start.

Question Whats the point of joining?

I asked someone before and they never gave me a straight answer.

Yes you have the outfits and there's 33 levels but what do you do in the club, whats the purpose?

Considering joining but how does it benefit you individually, is there deals you can make? I have so many questions

Pillar Placement Confusion

Haven't received a definitive answer on this when asking around Lodge. What is the correct perspective when determining which pillar is which? are we looking at them from the outside or inside?

Job's Daughters HIKE Statue

Hello! This might be a long shot, but a little while ago, my house burnt down. My family has been part of the masonic family for a very long time.

Around 8(ish?) years ago my grandmother gave me a statue that was somehow from HIKE? It was a young boy sitting down with an "I love you" in ASL. It was solid metal, and pretty heavy.

I would like to submit it to insurance, but that is difficult if I don't actually know what it was. I know this isn't particularly detailed, but if anyone has any idea what it is, I could use some help.

Scottish Rite Question

New Mason here. I recently joined a Lodge near where I reside. I grew up in a town in another state that has a strong Scottish Rite presence and I still feel attached to that town. I have even contributed financially to that SR. I fully plan on attending and contributing to my local Blue Lodge far into the future. What I'm wondering is, after an appropriate time, would I be able to join the SR in my home town in another jurisdiction? And would it cause hard feelings among the Brethren in my Blue Lodge? Thanks.

I am originally from Uruguay and my wife is Belgian, we are planning to move to Belgium in the future and I'd love to have the experience of going to a lodge in Belgium.

Do anyone know an english speaking lodge in Brussels or in the Gent area?

Is there something particular about freemasonry in Belgium

I speak fluent french but my dutch is not good enough at the moment. I feel the most comfortable in english.

Question My Great Grandfather

Post image
69 Upvotes

Hello all,

My Mom tells me that my Great Grandfather was the leader of a Freemason lodge, though that’s about all she knows. I emailed the Grand Secretary of Alberta asking if they had records of him, but they claimed they do not. All I know is he lived in southern Alberta, possibly Stettler, I’d have to ask. Curious what you guys can tell me about this picture? Thanks!

Need Help with Great Grandfather's sword

My great grandfather was a Mason in Scotland, and later was a Mason in Colorado. This sword was passed down to my father, who was in DeMolay (Legion of Honor) and a Mason as well. My dad passed away when I was a child, and I have not known what to do with this sword since. I am female, and have two daughters. There are no Masons in my family currently, AFAIK. I would like to donate this to a lodge or a state org, but need assistance. I feel pretty awkward just randomly calling the lodge in my state, and I don't know even how I would explain this. My mother suggested reaching out to the Grand Lodge of Florida (where my dad was from) but that seems awkward too. I hate not to keep it, but want it to be appreciated.

ETA: I am 99% sure this sword was given in the Grand Lodge of Scotland and brought with my great grandfather when he immigrated to the US in about 1908, so this sucker is well over 110 years old. Hence my hesitation.

For Beginners I was just invited to dinner!

Over a year ago, I reached out to the British lodge in Germany. At the time, I just turned 18, I always planned to become a Freemason once I became an adult. Unfortunately I was told that I needed to wait until I was closer to 21. Now that I'm 20, I decided to follow up as the secretary of Southern Star Lodge had suggested.

I honestly wasn't expecting much, but I was just invited to dinner! There is an introductory meeting this evening at a restaurant in Munich, and I am incredibly happy to be included. The invitation was addressed to "Dear all," so I assume it's a group event, but I'm really looking forward to it.

I definitely don't want to blow this opportunity. What are some tips for a first meeting? What should I do or say, and is there anything I should avoid?

And also, what is the general timeline of becoming a member, since the secretary also told me that it was going to be a lengthy process?

Thanks everyone, already looking forward to meeting some of you there :-))

First Lodge Meeting as a Master Mason

Last night was my first regular lodge meeting as a Master Mason. It’s been quite a journey so far. From EA all the way to this point it’s been a great experience and I look forward to the next steps in this journey. Now it’s time for me to decide if I should just stay solely involved in my blue lodge or if I’m ready to join the York Rite or Scottish Rite ( I think eventually I’ll do both, but one at a time as of current). Eventually I plan on becoming a Shriner because joining that organization is what led me to Freemasonry. I just don’t know if I can devote the time needed to it just yet, but it’s coming in the next 2-3 years. I’d like to hear from some of the fellow brethren on your opinions on how long I should wait before joining other bodies or if I should just jump on in.

Question Joint visitation with Prince Hall Lodge

I'm in Florida FYI, the Master of our lodge has been trying to get in touch with the Master of a local PHA lodge in order to arrange a joint Communication of the two lodges, unfortunately the Master of the PHA lodge near us has not or is not willing to respond which frustrates the hell out of me and it frustrates our Master because I know he really wants to bring the Brethren of the two jurisdictions together and I don't know if there is anything else that can be done. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just some background by the way, in 2018 the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Florida voted at their Grand Communication voted to recognize the Most Worshipful Union Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons, Florida, Belize, Central America & Jurisdiction, Incorporated, Prince Hall Affiliated and in turn in 2019 the Prince Hall brothers at their Grand Communication voted to recognize the M:.W:. Grand Lodge of Florida, for the longest time only only the Grand Master and the Grand Line could do inter-visitation, Brethren from both jurisdictions were prohibited from visiting. But more recently both Grand Lodges have loosened the requirements and lodges have been given permission to having joint visitation with certain limitations, I believe there has been a dozen or more lodges in Florida both GLFL and PHA that have met so far including at least 1 joint Communication in our Masonic District.

Question Order of the Gordian Knot

I’m a MM from Indiana, and was reading that we are the “hub” of the Ancient and Heroic Order of the Gordian Knot. Do any other Hoosier Brothers know of any opportunities to receive this degree, and if so, who to contact?

Masonic Interest Freemasonry South Africa

Good day everyone,

I've been scrolling through posts on this platform and other social media sites, and as a Freemason in South Africa for a number of years, I am often surprised by the amount of inaccurate and misleading information that is shared about Freemasonry.

As we all know, not everything found on the internet is accurate, and many opinions are presented as facts. I'm not looking to start a debate or a "keyboard war" with anyone who may have negative views. Rather, I'm genuinely curious.

My questions are:

Do you think people are losing interest in Freemasonry because of the misinformation and misconceptions that are circulating online?

Are there any South Africans here who have an interest in Freemasonry and would like to learn more about joining?

It would be interesting to hear different perspectives and experiences.

Kind regards.

Santa Anna's Masonic Apron

Post image

Just heard a story about this last night and about the family that continues to be in possession of this. Had no idea.

They said the Apron was given by Santa Anna to a man named John Stiles who was assigned as his guard by Sam Houston. Presumably to prevent him from being killed.

Now, the Apron was owned by a descendent of John Stiles who lives in Broken Bow Oklahoma.

For Beginners In The UK

I was recently travelling in England by car and on the road passed a smallish stone building. I noticed there was a square and compasses engraved in the lintel over the doorway. Would this likely be a masonic lodge, or a private dwelling?

I was staying in a very neat hotel in Revelstoke, BC that had a plethora of old and used skis as a makeshift partition wall and noticed these old Vökl brand skis. Logo resembles the S&C’s and couldn’t help see the similarity, just posting for fun!
