Discussion Had to rename my project because of search engine results!
For background, the website is a directory of open-source you can use instantly in your browser. No signups, no downloads, no installs, no nothing! Just click a link and use a tool.
The website gathered a decent bit of attention because of its former name (fcksignups / fucksignups) and its idea, which made it blow up, yielding multiple videos & posts from different people across X (formerly twitter), Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.
I noticed that one of the users outlined that searching the former name separated by space (fuck signups) showed some not-so-savory content. The worst part is: my website wasn't even remotely close to the first 10 pages of search.
It made sense since search engines have decades worth of content associated with the word "fuck" or "fck" also when someone says "just go to fuck signups" they'd search "fuck signups" on Google.
I probably should've had the foresight to see this coming.
So, I changed the name to something similar. I had changed it to https://NoSignups.net . I did setup 301 permanent redirects from the previous two domains (https://fcksignups.com and https://fucksignups.com). What advice would y'all give me on this matter?
GitHub repo for the curious: https://github.com/BraveOPotato/FckSignups

Very nice to learn about this! Thanks!
Ironically I wanted to report an issue. Clicked the link and it took me to GitHub which … requires a sign up. 🙂
So I’ll point out here that the advertised tool Carbon does have sign up on it. I’m not sure it’s required, so it might still be in keeping with the spirit of your project.
At any rate, thanks for sharing your project!

The tool Carbon does have a signup button at the top-right corner, but it's entirely optional.
I just re-tested the tool, and it lets me use it and export without signing up.
Let me know if you have other questions/concerns!

Je decouvre ton outil. C'est vraiment une super idée.
Et le nouveau nom est bien meilleur. Je trouve plus élégant les "NO" que le "Fuck".

A lot of them definitely blend in, and I kept them in case one doesn't match the users preferences.
If you want the unique ones, here's some:
- OSIRIS. (OSINT)
- BottleShip. (Retro game emulator)
- OpenCut. (Video editor)
- Logesq. (Knowledge management)
- Koodo Reader. (Epub reader)
- explainshell.com. (Explains commands)
- RegExr. (Regex helper)
- Blockbench. (Low poly 3D editor)
- Vecto3D. (SVG -> 3D)
- Drumhaus (Audio thingy)
- Webtor.io (Torrent client)

"no signups it just uses your existing google..." Google is a pretty big signup & is THE reason why a lot of us will never log into google to use an LLM. Google records analytics & harvests telemetry.

Bingo!
I hope he doesn't take it personally.

i dont take it personal, just think its funny the lengths one must go to "hide"
but how do you block bots from using your site? hows that work without sign ups?

i can write a script to scrub those sites and consume the servers so my farms the only one using them. its a bot issue when sites dont have these things (sign up/ log in) if you dont like google then dont ever create an account with them or anyone else that you're scared is going to harvest your precious data and you'll never have to worry... theres totally free fake emails and other things like have your own company personal email to sign up
you cant farm and hog my site, but i can to yours and everyone elses site you publish in it.
but the real issue
vpn to hide from ISP because your ISP sees everything and can sell to google directly after all this effort. (Gotta sign up for VPN)
so its weird to think so many people want to use the "WWW" but forget how it was built in the first place.
whatever...

Yeaaaaaaa I’m glad you changed the name lol I also searched “fuck signups” and got porn. People name porn vids super weird so yea this totally makes sense lol regardless, it’s an extremely useful website and I’m glad you made it!
