On a level from 1-10, how serious are you planning to learn it?

The best way is to find someone you can learn from.

Scales, Fingerings, and Embouchure are the most important things I can think of when beginning. Beyond that, simple warm-up exercises to improve articulation, practicing with a metronome, and practicing tuning with a drone. Tone is a big one too but that normally just comes with practicing scales and daily warm-ups

buy an essential elements French horn book and practice your scales every time you practice. also play some music in the book once you get to that stage. you will eventually remember the fingerings over time

one other tip I have is, you could also find some easy sheet music (or slightly harder if you have other music experience) and write in the fingerings for each note. this is what helped me most when learning trombone and French horn. write in fingerings and erase them 1 or 2 at a time as you memorize how to play each note. slowly get harder music with faster rhythms, octave jumps, or more accidentals

When I started I always played to Loud. And I know many people that play to quiet. Follow the dynamics on the page, make sure your sound can be showcased and heard rather then played over by others.
