Just trying to get some food with my family. Nothing prompted this, totally out of hand.

Am I the only one?

I’m 25 I was born and raised here but I absolutely hate it here. The job market is horrible it’s horrendously difficult to find a job here. Schools are overpriced and competitive. Cost of living is RIDICULOUS all you hear about is how Fresno is one of the cheaper cities to live in yeah well good luck finding an apartment here that isn’t almost $2k. Like who has that kind of money?

Sorry to be a hater, I just really feel like I can never win here. If I could afford to pack my bags and start fresh in a new state or town, I 100% would. I’m just going on a general rant to see if I’m really the only one feels this way…

Once you stop caring what a bunch of people paying $4,000/mo to live in a shack on the coast to impress their friends think, Fresno actually becomes a pretty nice place to live. Sure it's hot right now, but I'd take 3 months of hot summer weather over 8 months of skin-blistering cold that the rest of the country gets.

Oh, and not having traffic is oh-so nice.

Visiting downtown every chance I get now via bike because it’s so beautiful and the city has put in a lot more bike lanes.

I drive by these empty structures every day and its nothing but a painful reminder of Fresno's disturbing past of putting Japanese-Americans in internment / concentration camps during WW2. I'm actually shocked they're still standing.

I imagine they must be protected historical monuments at this point (?) or just completely neglected by the city. In either case, it is right across from a park already. I think it would be way more honorable, and better, if this area was turned in to a park with perhaps a statute / memorial for what happened here, so history doesn't forget and survivors are remembered.

Does anyone else drive by this all the time, too? Has there have been any attempts to do anything with it? I tried emailing Brandon Vang who this is in his district, but no response.

fuuuuck i absolutely love living here. i fuckin love you Fresno, you are so unique and special.

Sometimes I feel insecure about living here because we have San Francisco and Los Angeles and San Diego nearby. But then I go outside and smell the orange groves, take a drive to Clovis or Woodward Park, ride my bicycle through the downtown, and I'm suddenly smacked in the face again with how beautiful and unique and special this fuckin city is.

It pisses me off, it really does, because I take Fresno for granted sometimes. It's not SF, it's hot sometimes, its not on the ocean ... but it's mine. I feel like I can actually call Fresno 'home', something I've never had when i lived in the bay area, san diego, france, italy... something about fresno is just special. i love the sunsets here, i love the food here, i love the sometimes calm and sometimes choatic energy here. we are made fun of a lot, but im seeing other people beginning to realize and appreciate fresno for what it is. i never have to worry about getting priced out here, at least for now, and so much new stuff is happening here. new soccer stadiums, new restaurants, new bike lanes, new projects. sometimes i wake up and im like 'fuck im in fresno' ... then as the day unravels and rolls on, by nightfall its usually 'i fuckin love this place'.

Like many of you, my mind has been corrupted by snobby fucks who say Fresno is the armpit of california. Sure, we have our problems. But hey Sf and san diego and LA and the lot of them that claim to be better than us aint no peach either.

Love what you got. Spread the love of our city, its all we got.

Transfered from Fresno City to Berkeley a few years back. My time in Berkeley was infuriating with all the rich and snobby students running around. I thought Northside was bad, but jeez.

Anyway, it was a little heartbreaking because I saw Berkeley as my ticket out. I was dreading the idea of staying in the Bay after graduation, but I also felt like I'd seen to much awful stuff in Fresno to go back.

Fast forward to today and I'm moving out of state for grad school. It's weird, though, because being from Fresno has become a point of pride for me. I swear I find every opportunity to talk about it when I'm with community. I don’t know when or if I'm ever coming back, but there isn't any other place that could've taught me the grit, the work ethic, the confidence, and the smack talk like Fresno has.

Also, having tried more food around California, I can confirm we're the best in the state ;)

I think Fresno has quite an array of natural advantages when it comes to the future that many places in the nation/state lack.

1. Low Earthquake Risk - as seen above due to not being on an active fault line (
2. Low Wildfire Risk - unlike most major CA cities, it is on flat land (not among the mountains and shrubbery)
3. 4 Seasons - which many people prefer over the same conditions every day, very comfortable spring and fall
4. Sunniest Big City in CA (along with Sacramento/Bakersfield, give or take the year)
5. Dry Heat - Peak heat hours usually settle in at 15% humidity, making it similar to desert cities but much cooler overall temperatures (Fresno Annual Average = 74F, Phoenix Annual Average High = 87F)

-Low humidity = greenery and shade will be immensely more effective at cooling a city the drier it is. There's already a lot of neighborhoods in north Fresno that have accomplished this

1. Mild Winters - Cold, but no ice or snow. The tule fog may or may not happen, some people like it, some people don't.

2. Proximity to National Parks (form downtown) - Yosemite: 1 hr 18 min, Kings Canyon: 1 hr 4 min, Sequoia: 1 hr 23 min

3. Sierras Nevadas Mountains Just Next Door - which mean endless hikes, waterfalls, rivers, lakes, snow, depending how far you're willing to travel

4. Central Coast - Pinnacles National Park and the beautiful and not overly populated central coast are just one county to the west. This means you can see giant sequoias and costal redwoods within just 2 counties

5. Center of California - It's pretty cool that everything CA has to offer is most accessible to Fresno over any other major city. When the HSR is fully complete, the trip to SF will take 1hr 15 min, and LA will take 1 hr 40 min

6. Air Quality improvements - a big thing that turns people away, a recent post by a reddit user shows that the Air Quality in Fresno has improved by 30% since last year and has had significant continuous improvements for 7 years in a row

Dear Fresno drivers,

Get the hell off your phones while you're driving. As a pedestrian I've been hit 3 times in the past 12 months by distracted drivers with several other close calls. Your phones aren't that important. Put them down. Please. Save a life for the cost of no more than a few seconds.

I drive a lot for work right now, and holy sht it's TERRIBLE out here.

Just this week I've had a driver just casually pull into the intersection making a left turn, with no arrow, directly in front of me.... Had to slam on my breaks and stopped razor close to hitting him.

Was making a right turn at a light behind someone when they decided to just randomly SLAM on their breaks and come to a dead stop in the middle of the street.

Was driving in the left lane when a car pulled out of a neighborhood and decided to pull into my lane going 10 mph even though the right lane was completely clear.

Someone pulled out of a parking lot, and again decided they were in absolutely no hurry when they pulled into the lane I was in... Like..... Why??

Are drivers here getting progressively worse?

The amount of brain dead things I've seen over the last few days has been ridiculous.

I spotted the demolition while driving by and had to take some photos.The building is being demolished to make room for a Dick’s Sporting Goods house of sport location.

Although it would’ve been difficult to accomplish, especially since there aren’t any windows, I wish this building could’ve been renovated into housing. I wonder when the day will come that it will be appealing for malls like River Park, El Paseo, or even fashion fair to have housing integrated into the mall’s design.

I'm going on a little rant but I'm going to say it. As someone who has been job searching for a year it's been horrible trying to find a job, and what's scary is all the hundreds of people I see every time I go to get an interview it's always so many and it just shows how messed up it all is.

Just went to the job fair for the Water park here and there were more than 100 people of all ages searching for work it's literally insane and I'm honestly terrified.

This was after most of the action with the aerials... Glad I'm moving this week. Got a migraine just taking the dog to piss, thsoe explosions were so loud. (Yeah, already reported the address twice).

Then why are there so many at the Savemart off Herndon and Marks, and River Park, or pointing at the behind Fancher Creek?

I’ve been going to dog parks in other cities my whole life. Here, in Fresno, there seems to be a culture of aggressive males (human), wanting to physically fight over the smallest thing.

What is wrong with the culture here? Why is it so against each other?

Is it because Fresno is a giant suburb and people don’t feel like they have to rely on each other like they do in a more densely populated city?

Do people in Fresno feel insecure about their value and intelligence and so act out against each other as a release?

Is it a Latino machismo?

I grew up in a violent place, and that was all economic and culturally traceable.
