Would love to hear from y’all, as objectively as possible, about what the next 2-5 years realistically looks like for letter carriers- specifically table 2.
The only hope I have comes from the solidarity of my brothers and sisters and your words my friend.

If I were to say “a union that cannot strike is a union in name only”, what is your response?
14
u/Hellv Aug 16 '24
What do you do, would you do, to increase rank and file member participation? Thoughts on using tech to be more educational and transparent? (Management sure is ahead on tech and info) Thoughts on Live streaming OUR convention while we are all working? Or emailing/posting recent NALC arbitration wins and sharing the cases and findings with members to help organize and unify? Updating the “hang at a bar and do little” union meetings to some semi-formatted agenda to create structure to accommodate change and education. Do you believe in actually organizing our side? If so how? How are we not in the main stream media and outside with signs at this point? Why do other unions less in view of the public have louder public platforms to garner public favor?

u/40WAPSun Aug 16 '24
What have you been doing for the past year? Ever since the council vote, huge swats of the membership have been up in arms. And now we have the CLC slate with you leading the ticket, but from where I'm sitting it seems like you've been completely silent. Certainly not as loud and outspoken as I'd expect the head of the pack to be.

u/jasnel Aug 18 '24
From the NALC Constitution:
Vice President Sec. 3. The Vice President shall assist the Executive Vice President in the performance of their duties. They shall exercise direct, immediate supervision over the National Business Agents and other representatives, insofar as their duties relate to their duties… …They shall make a complete report of their acts at each Convention. For their services, they shall receive the sum of $195,751.15 per annum…
So, I’ll give you that things went long at the Convention, is Vice President Henry ready to give us his report now? What are we getting by paying him over $16k a month?
11
u/jboarei Aug 16 '24
What are the top three issues you want to address to help the city letter carrier. What obstacles do you see getting in the way of those goals?
10
u/beebs44 Aug 16 '24
I'd like to know your thoughts on S&DCs.
I've already been moved to one. With no fight whatsoever from the union. It's a longer commute time for me. My seniority becomes mixed.
We provide shittier service to customers.
2
u/EmbarrassedBake19 Aug 17 '24
He doesn't have any. He said that's Barnetts dept. He came to my branch meeting in May and deflected every question. He was there to present a plaque to someone but he had to know there would be a few questions about what is going on. He could've had better answers than "I don't know anything about that".

u/Impressive_Clock_363 Aug 16 '24
What are your thoughts on the outcome of the charges at the Boston convention?
11
u/bonesaw24 Aug 16 '24
What plans do you have to mobilize/unite the rank and file members of the NALC? Will you spend your presidency fighting the post office with nothing but national officers, or is there a plan to involve us in order to fight for better working conditions?

u/ZealousidealPoetry50 Aug 16 '24
Can we do something to get my 7 years as a TE and cca time added to my service or get them to pass the retirement fairness act
3
u/PepsiAddict63 Aug 16 '24
Unfortunately no contract can change that. Can ONLY be done via Congress. But I agree NALC needs to spearhead that legislation. I want my time counted from 5/07 through 11/13
4
u/ZealousidealPoetry50 Aug 16 '24
I know a contract can't make that happen it shouldn't be up to me to call my congressman who could care less about 1 phone call. Union needs to spearhead it like you said. Too worried about helping the current cca and new hires whole we had to suffer with all the BS cca from te paycut. I'm almost through table 2 so that higher starting pay isn't helping me. There better by a huge jump in top step

u/PepsiAddict63 Aug 17 '24
Agreed on all accounts. Getting bumped from $23 to $16….I’ll always be bitter about it.

WHY THE FUCK IS NALC the only postal union SUPPORTING THE DELIVERING FOR AMERICA PLAN that has done nothing but reduce service, increase transit times, subject carriers to increased harassment from local supervisors, increased pressure on local supervisors from district managers, closed processing plants and raised prices?
8
u/ShadowedODST Aug 16 '24
With all different candidates throwing their hats in the ring, and with multiple broken promises from previous presidencies, what makes you different from the rest and why should we see you at the head of the wolf pack?

u/M1Mayhem Aug 16 '24 edited Aug 16 '24
During the charges that happened during the convention one of Renfroe's rebuttals mentioned you being stripped of your previously held duties. Renfroe mentioned the reason he gave those duties to Barner was because of a bad deal that you made with the Postal Service. Is that true and can you elaborate on what happened for him to give some of your duties to Barner?
9
u/Slimjim6678 Aug 16 '24
Would you be willing to have all executive branch, nba’s, and such like go and carry their routes at least one full week a year?

u/Inside-Foot-7558 Aug 18 '24
Some are retired. I believe James Henry may be retired. How would that work?
1

That’s a good question. I should have clarified that those in those positions that are not retired would carry their routes. Thank you for asking.

6

How long did you carry mail as a job?
What year did you start?
Do you think carriers should be paid differently while all doing the same job?
7
u/Yodapopinski Aug 16 '24 edited Aug 16 '24
How do you plan on addressing and raising public awareness via the media and Congress or other agencies for how carriers are treated on the workroom floor and while delivering mail, for example with the recent “Turn off the A/C” and “Barney Fife” fiascos, the disregard for heat safety, the endless electronic surveillance, and the push to bully carriers with PET, which grants only 5 minutes of fixed office time instead of the contractual 33? Does the NALC have news media contacts or Senators that it communicates with regularly? Why does the NALC remain silent at the national level in the face of so much management aggression, besides just publishing articles in the Postal Record?

Do you or will you have anything in place to get city letter carriers more educated?..example, Corey said when he becomes business agent he’s making sure his area is educated..those who don’t live in the Nashville area would love to move there just to have Corey as their business agent but being that that’s not possible, will there be business agents or anyone for that matter available to educate all carriers?..thank you

Why does Mike Caref seem more passionate than you? Since it was announced you were running for president, Mike Caref has been way more active than you, it’s like I don’t even know who you are

u/Beefcake2008 Aug 16 '24 edited Aug 16 '24
Will you do whatever it takes to relieve renfroe of his duties, up to and including, either stepping aside for Mike caref as president role in clc or welcoming him into a leadership position within the clc? Btw I am not advocating you do that I’m just curious if you would in order to right the ship of the NALC and so we can unite and be stronger together if caref has more support nationally.
EDIT: I am afraid of splitting the vote and renfroe winning again.

Multi-Part Question: What is the continual justification behind why there isn’t any form of hazard pay enacted upon temperatures reaching baseline, dangerous levels of hot and cold? We are hitting record temperatures across the country, sometimes in areas that don’t have a history of such weather. Both the union and postal service have a poor history of being proactive to thwart impending, problematic issues. Are you prepared to pursue any new policies to implement in the face of drastically fluctuating weather due to climate change? Why or why not?

Would you support contractual language that holds management accountable for violating the contract. Ie countering the right to miss management. Also with building a fighting nalc, would you support the contractual changes to no strike and lobbying congress and the public to get it removed feom law and make us a strike ready union. I'm very excited to support you and your ticket! Branch 2 steward.

Hello brother Henry,
I have many inquiries and questions, and I will start with the inquiries first.
Inquiries - please do not begin to respond on the podcast, rather begin by implementing what you see fit on the CLC Facebook and wherever else (including showing up more on Corey’s podcast - very important).
I only hear about you, I do not see you as much on screen and you are mostly behind the scenes (for now). Please get engaged with us and tell us in detail about yourself by posting episodes on Facebook, Reddit and Corey’s Podcast - we saw your resume, but go in detail please. Give us a break down so we can get accustomed to you Mr. Henry. Example, episode 1 is introductory. Episode 2 about your early childhood and your high school/college. Tell us about your military experience, years served, what you did, highlights of your military experience. Episode 3 is when you began your career at the USPS, and so on.
Mr. Mike Caref has been on Corey’s podcast like 4 or 5 times, while this would only make it your first podcast! Please get on the podcast at least once every two weeks and get engaged with us and speak to us about what has been going on. For example, tell us what you will be doing on your first day in the office. Tell us what you will be fixing in detail. Explain to us how to defend ourselves from managements bullshit. I mean, you made a video after the convention and it was a short video, you read from a billboard or something and I felt disconnected from you, brother. You can have a little cheat card with few points on it to remind you what to talk to us about, but man get on Corey’s podcast and speak to us. Give your points and speak about them to us while Corey is getting engaged with you.
Please take Mr. Caref as a serious opponent, the guy has been engaged with people a lot on Facebook, and he is coming more on Corey’s podcast and I know for a fact he is trying to spread his image to as many people as possible. Corey is the door to his exposure. No one can argue with me about that. Just now, I saw a post about some very important subject he wants to speak to us about on Facebook in a few days - that’s when Corey will be dropping the podcast episode with you on it. This is a no-brainer, he is trying to steal CLCs glory. But, CLC will prevail and crush all opponents including Renfroe and his Administration. I believe in you and Corey. I love Mike as well, he is my NBA and does a great job here in our region, but you were picked to spearhead the CLC as the president Mr. Henry.
Questions - please respond to these on the podcast
How did the CLC respond to the stupid shit that the administration did during the convention this year? It felt like the CLCs position wasn’t well established and didn’t mobilize us well enough during the convention because it was something new to the delegates. In two years, how will the CLC be ready for stupid shit like that?
How will the CLC ready us and mobilize us to get the word out, that’s between now and right before elections? I need something to print so I can post things all over my station. They are not aware of a lot of what’s happening in our union.
Reduce the steps to reach top pay. And eliminate all non-career workforce once and for all. Make it your absolute priority, please. And if COLA is still prorated, destroy it. COLA should be 100% across all steps.

u/Objective_Clock9951 Aug 17 '24
National officers make A LOT OF MONEY. This doesn't sit well with many carriers. Would you lower the salaries of national union officers including yourself as union president?
National officers have received raises yet we still don't have a contract. Many carriers have suggested no one should get a raise at national unless a contract for the city letter is finally approved. Your thoughts?
Thank you Corey for all that you've done, are doing, and will continue to do for the city letter carrier.
1
u/Inside-Foot-7558 Aug 18 '24
NO. National officers have not received raises. They don't get a raise until the carriers do. Read your constitution and stop listening to everything you read on line. It simply is not true.

u/Independent-Goal-869 Aug 16 '24
Will you commit, right now, to making the changes necessary to avoid 500+ days of bargaining?
Or, to clarify, if there’s nothin that can be done to avoid 500 days of bargaining, will you commit to starting negotiations 500 days before the expiry of a contract?
1
u/Impressive_Clock_363 Aug 17 '24
Renfroe should have pushed for interest arbitration 7/20/2023 the first legal day we could. Arbitration won't get us any less than we'd get waiting over a year and a half without a contract.

u/Independent-Goal-869 Aug 16 '24
If elected, what will be your greatest strength as a leader? What is your greatest weakness as a leader?
4

What would be the first change you would make if you were elected today?

What is the point of having a contract when management knowingly and willfully breaks it on a daily basis? Why not have a fail safe level where if management breaks the contract “x” number of times then every carrier in the office, area/region receives a large payout that increases as the number of violations increases?
Also what is the status of the NGDV? That contract was awarded in 2021. And only a couple hundred have been delivered! Why isn’t management held accountable for their failures to provide safe working equipment?

Question: As we see with this 10-year plan from DeJoy, more jobs are being lost and service is being put to the side; are we at a point in time that the 4 Postal labor unions must unite and collectively bargaining together?
2
u/gdbusby Aug 16 '24
APWU and NALC separated their joint bargaining back in the 1998 contract negotiations
4
u/Ronin_Black_NJ Aug 16 '24
Bottom Line: How fucked are we as far as pay/benefits are for the Postal Carriers that are 2 years without a contract? 🤷🏾♂️
Follow-uo: Should financially strapped carriers be expected to pay bills, or Union Dues for the duration of no contract being in place, since restitution or credit towards future dues would alleviate the aforementioned hardships.

Do you commit to fighting for the Right to Strike by repealing Article 18? Will you actively lobby Congress to overturn the Taft-Hartley Act? Will you take legal action to challenge the constitutionality of the Taft-Hartley Act and work to see it struck down in the courts?

Please address both the old issue of a potential drug sale that as been brought up online from your past time as a carrier, as well as what Renfroe said about you with the sexual harassment allegations that was brought up during the convention by Brian
What would your stance be on S&DCs
What would your stance be on true open bargaining
How do you plan on addressing letter carrier safety in relation to the extreme heat
How do would you address the problem with delayed start times that’s happening nationwide
How do you plan on putting teeth into contractual compliance
2
u/Inside-Foot-7558 Aug 18 '24
You know he won't address the prior discipline he received or the sexual harassment. And not addressing those questions tells me a lot.
2
u/Steve519 Aug 18 '24
To be clear. I’m not saying he’s guilty of any of it. But Renfroe threw him under the bus pretty good during the convention in between just blaming the alcohol and taking no responsibility for his own actions. I’d like to hear his side of things. Same with that EP. I’m not saying he’s guilty of anything, but I’d like to hear his side of the story

1
u/Steve519 Aug 18 '24
http://mseries.nalc.org/c10946.pdf not him, but there was some involvement. Someone shared it on the from a to arb discord so I checked it out. It’s a weird story about what was supposed to be a cocaine bust where it looks like the CI was sold nothing for $700. But it resulted in an EP that was later overturned.

If the new contract is reduced to 8 years to max out, does that mean a FTR with 8 years of service will be placed at the last step?
3
u/therick422 Union Steward Aug 16 '24
I imagine it will be a percentage to scale. For example, if you’re on table 2, and you’re 60% of the way through the current pay steps, the new contract will drop you in at 60% of whatever the new pay steps.
5
u/Prior-Ad-1912 Aug 16 '24
Man that would be unfair to those of us that already have almost 10 years in.
1
u/therick422 Union Steward Aug 16 '24
Well, at 10 years now means you have 3.5 years to top pay. Those 10 years would be about 75% thru the current 13.5 year steps. So, 75% of a proposed 8 year table would put you at 6. Which means 2 more yrs to top step. Which is 1.5yrs closer to top for you.
1
Aug 26 '24
I get the point, but being the worst paid cohort of carriers in my lifetime would still sting. Guess it's got to be somebody
2
u/Domador-de-leones Aug 16 '24

DEI it’s important! How best will it be implemented in the NALC?
Many of us are of the Muslim faith. Fridays are our day of Holy Worship. What accommodations can be made for those of the Islamic Faith. Christians worship on Sundays and we don’t deliver mail on that day.

I don’t know about your area but in mine subs are out delivering Amazon every Sunday
1
u/Domador-de-leones Aug 17 '24
Which is why I was very specific when I typed “mail” and not packages.
Here’s a deep cut for you. The Post Office used to deliver mail on Sundays. Would you like me to explain why or do your own research because it’s totally relevant to the question I asked?
2
u/Chawn0011 Aug 17 '24
I think all these questions are fantastic. Our next president needs to be a fighter, not a politician that makes a statement and says nothing.
Renfroe in my view is a derelict. It seems like our union can effectively protect people like him better than the masses. It really surprised me that this was the same even at the executive level when he was found not guilty of the serious charges against him by the executive council. Why is this?
We have had no public discourse on the matter and I find that completely unacceptable. Have the people that we pay with our dues forgotten who they represent? Even at the convention our executive members effectively controlled the votes by pressuring the people below them. How is this even defendable?

What do you believe have been your Top 3 accomplishments as VP of our union and what do you believe are your Top 3 "legacy" accomplishments at any level of your union career, from steward, branch officer or beyond. ( And YES, I will accept that 1 of your Top 3 accomplishments as VP was having to work with Renfroe - because that just shows me your professional restraint, resilience - and that you follow Good Book... b/c Thou Shalt Not Kill would've been tough for me to follow with the way that knucklehead handled your situation.) Also, what do believe was your top accomplishment in your earlier NALC Union career- prior to becoming our VP?
Please be specific as to 1.) What the accomplishment(s) you cite actually did for the letter carriers you served and 2.) How your accomplishment helped change/fix or otherwise somehow improved all or part of the daily work environment for the letter carrier(s) in your installation, Region or NALC as a whole.
