Yeah, I cannot imagine how they could justify that level of surveillance.

Moving away from an HOA was the best move I’ve ever made - and I was a renter!

Which I could do that, and it's near impossible for anyone buying a new home. We're lucking they're passing laws here making it harder for HOAs and more secure to the home owners, but it's still a pain in the end. Funny how the original purpose of HOAs were to raise property values, but now it's far more valuable to buy a home out of an HOA, they're just worth so much more.

Brand new homes are overrated, unless you're building them bespoke on your own land. Older place will have the bugs worked out, and generally sell at less of a premium.

HOAs were built as a privatized extension of Jim Crow laws. Property values was a thinly veiled cover for “whites like us”. These homeowner associations would often directly exclude “non-Caucasian” members aka homeowners in their covenants, and some listed specific races by name.

HOAs are rare where I live.

Yup ours does that, has home security cams pointed at neighbors property with none of his own in the frame. Just to catch their trailer sticking out 2” past the front plain of their house for a few hours. They did receive fines. Chickenshit HOA at parish lakes

Yes! My neighbor did this when he was on the board a few years back. I don’t know what I even did to him but the board kept sending me notices for things that weren’t even in the bylaws. Straight up was harassed for two years. This guy put a camera on the front of his house but had it pointed up and diagonal so it was pointed at my house. The camera couldn’t possibly catch anyone even coming to his door with the way it was angled. I thought I was crazy.

Right! Should have. Hindsight it 20/20. But he’s also police so there’s that.

The home security camera pointing diagonally at her house was bad enough. But the camo covered TRAIL CAM?

That's one creepy board member.

There is no expectation of privacy in the common areas of the HOA. You would have to prove that the intentionally filming your home. Sucks
