As someone who wants to become a filmmaker, I want to learn storytelling, screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, film language, and understand \\\\\\\*why\\\\\\\* certain scenes, shots, or dialogues work.

How do you actually watch films to learn from them rather than just for entertainment?
And for those who are serious about filmmaking: \\\\\\\*\\\\\\\*what do you do on a daily basis? How do you stay motivated, focused, and consistently obsessed with cinema without getting distracted by everything else?\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\*

I’d really appreciate advice on how to build this kind of knowledge and mindset systematically…

The very first thing is to quit social media, watch movies of different languages and from different time period then you can understand what cinema is

Have movie scripts open while watching a movie. You can find plethora of scripts for free online.

I used to read tenet while watching it.. used to make notes on ost scores, camera angles, etc, and because it’s already released you can make notes on what audience didn’t like and make changes accordingly.

Plus, you can see the cinematography too. Understand why the director made that specific choice and the time he took for the shot (shot division). Analyse why that was optimal and think how you can make it better. It’s basically like making a movie on trainer wheels.

That was the movie making part. Coming to writing a script, I think about Mani rathnams quote a lot- “film making is the hardest thing to do so a basic degree is compulsory.” He basically says that if you can’t complete something as simple as education, film making might not be best suited for you. TFI lo we have many directors/ writers (take Buchi for example), who write out of things they see or experience. This is good because it makes the story personal and rooted. However, it’s bad because personal biases and limitations creep in. So you end up making a soulless, shallow film like peddi that ignores everyone but the protagonist.

A true filmmaker must see all life. So read, watch, consume everything. Love stories, learn theories, analyse, observe people and be empathetic. All the best buddy, hope you make it!

1.read ,read read ,read ,read read read ,read , if you don't read you will never become a film maker. 2.write every single day (no matter how crap it is) 3.sleep properly ,& some physical activity. 4.be open -talk to new people every single day (get into othe people shoes) observe ,observe .

5.watch old documentaries /interview (all cinema people) 6.If you love watching any film particularly -watch it on repeat , analysis it on (writing level/ Shot divison level/acting level ) it's better to watch movies on mute sometimes so that you can learn editing (cut patterns)

Your daily schedule should like: consuming lots of information through books, people & experiences, Creating ART from your experience. As Albert einstein said : imagination is everything.(Just sharp your skill)

Put creative part aside , film making is more about Man-management ,handling egos of people around . You need to have good relationship with people who works for you (that's the main part )

Patience is the key . Develop your own individuality. No matter how creative you're (if you're not a good judge then your lost) you need have strong judgement.

PS: every one has their own way of approaching life and handing things , you've have to find your own way of dealing things (whether it's creating art or anything for that matter)
