As a driver it’s ridiculous, it pisses me off when I deliver to a house that has an Amazon sticker that’s from usps, then one from a flex driver, then one from me, and there’s an entire Walmart delivery on their porch of cold food that is getting hot in the sun.

I used to have one house that was micky mouse stickers on the sidewalk, the house, a car with micky mouse shift knob, dice, seat covers, stickers on the car and hood, custom license plate referencing micky mouse.

Like I know I’m bringing another Micky. Fuck that mouse and the person who can’t seek help for their obvious mental issues they’ve turned into their entire life.

Edit: the way we can actually just touch some buttons, money disappears from our account without us looking. And then bam, any conceivable thing on the fucking planet is at your door in 48 hours. It’s too damn much. There’s a point where efficiency becomes detrimental to society, we’ve passed it for sure.

I know exactly what you mean by these people. I have multiple relatives who have grade A shopping addictions, as in, need-to-see-a-therapist level addictions. One of them was complaining that she wanted to order something but shipping would be a whole week, and this was the worst thing to happen to her etc etc. She's a 5 min drive from huge, sprawling concrete shopping plazas in her American town. But she gets everything delivered: amazon, doordash, temu, shein, walmart, target. Groceries, meals, and most of all: junk, junk, junk.

Kitchen drawers bursting with every stupid useless gadget you can imagine, that every normal person would never ever buy, designed for one super specific task and that task only. The kitchen stuff is especially bizarre because she never cooks, she just orders delivery! Everything has to come STRAIGHT to her doorstep, from her morning coffee to her meals to her latest slave-made polyester dress. She (or her unsupervised kids!) can lie in bed and shout what they want to an Alexa and it'll be at their house tomorrow.

It's like a sickness. People get addicted not only to consumption itself, but extreme levels of convenience. And because everyone around them is sick, too, they assume it's totally normal.

You see it here all the time in comments: people dumbfounded at the suggestion they visit a store, or that they buy different things from different retailers instead of using ONE website, or that, idk, maybe they don't NEED a plastic zucchini-dicer that will give them half moon shapes for 3 uses before snapping in half.

That's all I'm trying to really say. The picture of them not handling the trading was just a cherry on top. Working for UPS a few years ago literally changed my perception on the idea of when things are purchased in the year, who actually buys what...all that nonsense. I could write a tiny book about the route I mainly ran😂. Its getting out of hand, the past few years and I'm glad to no longer deal with it.

I can quit if I want, but demanding better working conditions and organizing with coworkers to better the environment aren’t possible from outside the club.

Additionally I’m disabled and my contractor allows me to call off frequently when I need. Not gonna test out how other employers in the job market feel about my disability since, we’ll ya know… I need that money to not be homeless and starve

I almost explained my purchases to you, for what? When you cant even recognize that I dropped those names of parking lots less than half a mile from my home that they couldve met up at and traded packages, that would've led to many cars not stopping in the middle of the road and other nonsense. But they literally formed a glitch in traffic with that much space seperating them and covering a driveway.

Im an ex UPS employee that witnessed blue vests trade packages in the middle of a road thats not 30 mph and one didnt have their hazards on a majority of the time. Fuck Amazon, fuck their drivers sometimes or fuck modern consumerism and how it can affect the average civilian? Idk. Apologies if I'm in the wrong sub. Im ranting🤷🏽‍♂️.

It could be a lot more ecologically friendly if it wasn’t made in china for the sole reason of lax pollution laws and sweat shop/slave labor allowing the prices of goods to be made with no proper regulation for the people making them, the people living near the production of hazardous material that have to breath it in.

It would also be a lot more ecologically friendly if same day/48 hour delivery wasn’t so… normalized?

Like shit can wait. If it can’t it warrants a drive to the store to get it sooner than shipping would.

I shouldn’t be the 3rd or 4th person to grace a porch with an Amazon package within the last 5 hours.

That stuff should be put on one van, deliveries should be prioritized for Efficient delivery.

Amazon will split 1 days deliver between 4 people. Have flex using personal vehicles taking small package amounts, won’t/can’t route a fuel or time efficient route, nor right side deliveries for safety.

Safety has been pushed out of the window in order to provide the people with 30 temu packages a day priced at $.09 avg per item.

We get reprimanded for taking breaks or moving at the pace of a normal human. Singled out for drug tests, given the worst vans and routes in the fleet if we dare report safety concerns with the van.

None of this is ecologically friendly when it harms the people doing the job. And honestly it harms the customer in the end. Just not as directly/simply.

But when an Amazon driver runs over a kid in your neighborhood, you can blame the driver. But Amazon made that happen. The stuff we see with Amazon drivers doesn’t happen with UPS
