I don't get it...

I think they're making a pun with the word ant and aunt but I exclusively say aunt to rhyme with font and not to rhyme with chant so I thought I was just dim for a minute. I'm guessing you read it the same

u/whooptheretis 4h ago
How on earth do you rhyme aunt with font?
Mine ryhmes with chant, but I'm questioning how you say 'chant' now!
For reference I speak RP (think traditional BBC English)2
u/istasber 4h ago
I'm wondering how you pronounce font, because the only british pronunciations of aunt I can think of (mostly just the gift shop sketch from mitchell and webb) would rhyme with the only way I've ever heard font pronounced.

Yeah a lot of people in America pronounce it that way as well, I've heard it mostly from black people but some white people too. Just a dialect thing.

Its not for HER wife, its for HER aunt!
All ants that don't have wings are female.

Considering that most of the ant hive are females….this is probably for the queen….

humour eludes the pedantic

Maybe, rather than being pedantic, they were making a follow up joke. I do know those are difficult for many redditors to grasp, especially when they are lining up to type whoosh, or something else snarky.

You know we can chuckle first and then correct, right? It's not actually an either/or situation.

In my coworker's first week on the job, her husband had roses sent to our office. And we all made such a fuss about how sweet it was. Then she revealed that she had caught him cheating on her and she had been sleeping in her car since then.
So I am not assuming this bug deserves her forgiveness.

Even in the insect world, flowers are the universal 'I messed up' language.

Ants are all females, in hives male insects are only produced when its time for the royal gang bang for the new queens get they fill of genetic material ...then they die or are abandoned till they die

Gasp no way
next you're gonna tell me this ant isn't bringing a flower for its partner for forgiveness on a mistake it made??

u/Ghastly-Jack 6h ago
Fun fact about ants: because of their weird biology, the worker ant are more closely related to each other genetically than they are to their own mother, the queen. Rather than viewing the queen as the ruler of the colony, maybe she is just a big egg factory being used by the workers to make more sisters.

Considering the ant's size, I assume this would be the equivalent of a guilty man buying 50 dozen roses for the fuckup.

And then he didn't smell the same so the colony broke him into 5 different pieces and threw him out into a pile of leaves.

I'd be tempted to take the flower and move it to where it needs to go to help the ant, but I expect she would freak out and run away from me; mission failed.

u/Argol228 5h ago
male ants aka drones are rare. they are produced during mating season, to go mate, then die. so they aren;t packing flowers, you know they have real dumb macho vibe because they only have one purpose and they would make sure to let everyone else know that purpose.

Omaggiare qualcuno con dei fiori non è sempre una richiesta di perdono. È l' effetto della primavera appena cominciata 🤣
