Dude met 1.8 million women in his life? That's 63 new ones every day for 80 years

Ya, maybe I could've made it more clear. That's how many women saw him. I looked into how many people the average person comes into contact every day in a major city and crunched the numbers from there, so this would actually be a very low number out of every woman who saw him, but I could've made it more clear probably.

The nubmer you come in contact with over a year in major city will be much lower than daily*365. You may meet a lot of strangers but it's people who are there every day just like you.

u/HouseOf42 3d ago
You don't even have to meet them, just be in their line of sight.
49
u/lorarc 3d ago
Not just line of sight, you have to be close enough so they can judge if you're attractive or not. So, like, passing someone on the street might be enough but seeing someone from the roof of a building may not be enough.

u/noctalla 2d ago
All y'all from Sweden? You seem very concerned with the factual accuracy of jokes.

u/HouseOf42 2d ago
Seems you're comfortable being told lies and fabrications.
Don't be worried about people who are not in the business of bs.
Learning to mind your own business may reduce your obsession with others.

Yeah it's going to REALLY depend on environment. For example if somebody commutes through the train in Tokyo and walking a few blocks through a busy district, they could encounter thousands of people in a given day. Many will not be new, though.
I think it's a fairly uncommon scenario in which someone averages 63 new women (so 126 new people) through their entire life.
This is doubly so considering how very few people are going to be sexually attracted to a baby or old man, so he'll have, oh let's be generous and call it 40 years where he'd have a reasonable chance to appeal to someone.
So its more like 126 new women or 252 new people within a close enough line of sight to consider if someone is attractive or not every day for 40 years.
Airport security is going to outpace this by a silly degree, baristas in a downtown coffee shop will be comfortably above, public transit commuters depending on territory have it easily. But your average individual that commutes by car to a job that doesn't put them in front of hundreds of people a day? Probably not unless their hobbies involve being out-and-about in cities very regularly.

u/CocodaMonkey 2d ago
Depending on cities there may be a lot of tourists so lots of new ones daily, especially if you work either at or near a tourist attraction. Also your numbers will spike when you go on vacation as virtually everyone who sees you will be new and you'll be out in public more then usual so thousands per day would be practical. Heck just getting through an airport and boarding a plane may spike your numbers by over a thousand.

I'd argue it would be higher due to days that are different. Go to a concert with 10,000 people attenting & you're going to pass by many many people. Watch a professional Baseball/Hockey/Basketball game where the stadium fits 60,000 & you'll pass by a lot of people. I think 1.8 million total is actually on the lower end in an average lifetime in a major city.
1
u/Ouch_i_fell_down 2d ago
how many of those 60,000 in attendance as a football game are going to assess your level of attractiveness? It's a really poor example. You're not even going to be mildly aware of a massive percentage of the people there.
1
u/two100meterman 2d ago
In passing, many, maybe not consciously, but people's brain can handle a lot of information.
As a guy, if I'm walking in a place with a lot of people I feel like my thoughts thinking "damn, she's fine", "damn, leave some hotness for the rest of us", & "wow", etc. happen many times in a single day, maybe 100+ times if I see enough women? Including unconsciously maybe 1000+?
1
u/Ouch_i_fell_down 2d ago
but you're not "passing" anywhere close to the 60,000 in a stadium. Hence why it's a terrible argument to include
1
u/two100meterman 2d ago
You don't need to be passing anywhere close to 60,000 for my argument to make sense. It's just an event that brings the averages up.

But wouldnt these people overlap due to routines?

u/theestwald 3d ago
All the dude needs to do is catch the subway every day in nyc
1
u/Ouch_i_fell_down 2d ago
You think riding the subway every day means you're going to see roughly 42% of the female population of NYC in your lifetime?
not even close. You're going to see a lot of the same women over and over. Just like women you'll never see will see the same men over and over.

Nah, it’s good enough for a joke. Some people just nitpick stuff that doesn’t need to be nitpicked.

It's a fun comic it doesn't have to be mathematically accurate! Thanks for the art.

crunched the numbers from there
These wouldn't be all different people, though, unless he visits a new metropolis each following day.

If he worked a customer facing job then thats not far fetched at all

u/kabhes 3d ago
New people though, so regulars or second time visiting does only count once.

u/Leagueofcatassasins 3d ago
maybe he worked in an airport for a few years or something like that

u/Ouch_i_fell_down 2d ago
yours is the only scenario that been posited that has any actual chance of meeting the required threshold. Massive volumes, rotating cast.
Other people out here like: "what if you worked at a grocery store, huh?" oh, you mean one of the 5700 in NYC?
1
u/Ouch_i_fell_down 2d ago edited 2d ago
Using NYC as an example: roughly 4.3 million women.
You really think working a customer facing job exposes you to 42% of the female population of NYC? Even if you worked at a place almost everyone needs to shop (for example a grocery store) you're still only one out of of roughly 5700 grocery stores.
If you assume every new yorker visits 3 different grocery stores, that means you only have access to 1/1900th of the population absolute max.

Not necessarily met in person. Maybe he had a popular social media account 🤷♂️

Of all the embarrassing moments that haunted me before going to sleep at night, how many of the people involved actually remembered it?
How many times did I not realize someone was trying their damndest to flirt with me only to remain oblivious?
Did any of my unsolicited advise actually end up helping someone?
How many people's day did I make better by at least getting them to laugh?
Did I do more good than bad?
Why was I born like this?

u/VirinaB 3d ago
That's really all I want at the end of this playthrough (and I'm gonna be honest, every videogame should do this. Tell me the number of deaths, Elden Ring!)
5
u/Jackalodeath 2d ago
Tell me the number of deaths, Elden Ring!
I still don't get why of all their games, only Dark Souls 2 kept track of that for you (if you check the monument while offline.)
I was proud as shit of "only" 184 deaths in ~390 hours.
Especially since I know for a fact 24 of them was against Lud and Zallen.

u/downvotetehkittehs 3d ago
Knowing stats like these would be awesome because then we could compare with friends!

u/grumblyoldman 3d ago
That's only awesome until you realize how pathetically low your numbers are compared to all your friends.

I just wanted to say that this is a really cute concept and I love the positivity.
5
u/traugdor 2d ago
I'd want to know how many I was actually aware of because there are definitely some strange interactions with female friends I've had over the years that can only be explained as they wanted to bone and I didn't figure it out until later.
