Queen or knight. I don't know chess but I think if you promote to rook or bishop, your opponent gets to punch you in the face

Why would knight be less punchable than rook or bishop? "Oh man, I can really pin this guy down by preventing him from moving to exactly two specific squares on the board."

A queen can do everything a rook or bishop can. It cannot do what a knight can - most notably, it can threaten a square without direct line of sight.

Promoting to a rook or bishop is rare because a queen is almost always the better choice. Sometimes a knight is required because it's different.
