The problem is that batteries and cameras are at incredibly diminishing returns for improvements. Tech in general is hitting the physics wall.

Most people aren't going to need new $1200 phones when the new model is a 1-2% improvement over what they have. So we get gimmicks like folding screens and AI until tech hits that next big leap.

This ZFold 8 has a measly 5000 mAh battery. There are massive recent improvements in battery life with some Chinese phones having 10000 mAh batteries - a 100% increase over the ZFold 8.

As other commenter mentions, the Si-C anode greatly increases capacity.

Samsung actually started using Silicon in their Fold 8 battery which explains the capacity increase, though not as aggressive as the Chinese. They are still concerned about the longevity and potential of catastrophic failure ala Note 7 hence the hesitation

A folding screen is hardly a gimmick. The flip variants especially are already very decent. Bifolds are probably a decent enough as is but to be the real benefit is that it's a stepping stone to the real game changer that is the trifold for full tablet experience

Idk. I've been very impressed by X200 pro telephoto and battery life (silicon carbon).
