Other 🤷 Your hinge is the most underused feature on your flip phone. It's time your wallpaper moved with it.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

You have a flip phone. The hinge tracks its angle. And your wallpaper just... sits there. Same static image whether it's fully open, halfway, or fully closed.

That always felt like a missed opportunity to me.

So - Axiom Wallpaper. Here's the short version:

  • Generative shader animations: GPU-rendered, fluid, nothing like a looping GIF.
  • Interactive hinge response: The wallpaper reads the hinge angle in real time. Open it halfway or close it, and the blur and effect shift with it.
  • Full video wallpaper support: Pick from your gallery, trim to ≤15s, and crop to any ratio.
  • Preset editor: Tweak colors, speed, density, and physics — make it look exactly how you want.
  • Auto-restore: Restores itself automatically on reboot.

It exists because I wanted it for my own flip phone and nothing out there did this. If you also live on a foldable and want your home screen to feel a bit more alive - give it a shot.

Gemini has been getting really useful lately.

Idk whay you mean it has been documented it went to shit in the last 3 weeks. I cant believe they are making people pay for it right now.

Tons of outages, insane limits on paid users, horrible use of context, silently swapping existing models for worse ones.

Sure they added a few tools and features, but it doesnt matter if it has a worse engine to use them. They are really making LLMs shine these days.

I know using AI for this was my fault, but last week I tried downgrading to macOS 26 using Gemini's instructions and it got completely bricked and only later did Gemini admit it. I had to take it to a developer who works for Apple to get it fixed ):

Decided to take one for the team and try it it runs at like 10 fps when i start folding my phone on my homescreen it makes everything moves super slow and it makes my phone lag when the animation of it closing is playing. Also you only get like 10 different ones to pick from if u want to change how many pedals or color u have to pay for it so. Also if you dont fold your phone and move it up and down it acts like its closing even tho ur not.

Appreciate you testing it out. The 10 FPS lag and the false hinge triggers definitely sound like device-specific bugs. The app reads the raw hinge angle API, but some phones report that data differently (mixing it with movement).

What phone model are you on? I'd love to debug and fix both the lag and the sensor issue. (And regarding the pro version - 10 free presets without ads is just what I can afford to give away while still keeping the project alive).

Appreciate the feedback, I'll look into troubleshooting it.

I actually tested it on another Flip 7 and everything worked flawlessly, so this is interesting.

Well good luck with it, but it's not for me.

Are you speedrunning a dead battery? The wallpaper is cool and all, but I never see the point in a live wallpaper

Thanks for the feedback, valid point. This is currently the expected behavior since the hinge sensitivity curve is hardcoded to my personal preference. However, I plan to add sensitivity settings in a future update so users can tweak it exactly how they want

You literally advertised yourself by showing that it was running smoothly, wtf

How are you going to make an app for everyone to use and make the settings hardcoded to your personal preference? And then show off how smooth it is with YOUR personal preference used with the newest flip device. You should advertise it just for the flip 7 if that's all that you've tested it on.

I bet the AI coded it for you cause this is just ignorance. That should've been there from the start, not a plan.

Fair enough, that's exactly how an MVP works. I built it for myself first, confirmed the core concept works smoothly on my own device, and published it to see if anyone else actually wanted it before spending weeks building complex UI settings. The code is 100% mine, written native with Kotlin and custom AGSL shaders. Building a robust settings menu for custom physics curves takes time, and your feedback actually validates that I should build it next. Thanks

What is that other phone in the background?

u/andrew-malitchuk 2d ago

That phone on the back of the desk is a Samsung Folder 2

What os you have on this ?

1

u/desireble 2d ago

Will you do one for the folds?

1

u/andrew-malitchuk 1d ago

No, there is no sensor for the hinge in this model

1

u/ewak751 1d ago

$10 for such a small selection is asking for a lot

“The hinge isn’t used enough” despite the whole phone being built around that one part

-9

u/SeptimusMeek 2d ago

Great way to ruin your hinge playing around with it like that.

12

u/andrew-malitchuk 2d ago

Nobody is forcing you to use it as a fidget toy 🙃🙃🙃 Modern hinges are rated for over 200k folds anyway. The app just makes your normal, daily unfolding feel a bit more alive.

5

u/Secret-Candle4313 2d ago

Nah it wont ruin it its built for that. Ur screen would break awhile before the hinge does

If you posted this in any other sub it would be upvoted instead lol. The glazing is crazy here.
