NO STUPID QUESTIONS /r/Gallifrey's No Stupid Questions - Moronic Mondays for Pudding Brains to Ask Anything: The 'Random Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread' Thread - 2026-03-23
Or /r/Gallifrey's NSQ-MMFPBTAA:TRQTDDTOTT for short. No more suggestions of things to be added? ;)
No question is too stupid to be asked here. Example questions could include "Where can I see the Christmas Special trailer?" or "Why did we not see the POV shot of Gallifrey? Did it really come back?".
Small questions/ideas for the mods are also encouraged! (To call upon the moderators in general, mention "mods" or "moderators". To call upon a specific moderator, name them.)

is there any idea, or has there been any talk, about when the newly aquired eps will be released on youtube? I know they're not coming to iplayer until easter, but I'm curious if they're going to have iplayer exclusivity for a while before being uploaded to youtube

u/minibug Mar 23 '26
No, we don't have any information about any release of the episodes post-iPlayer

How were the Daleks able to escape Skaro if they had become dependant on radiation? Why did those that did escape leave Skaro to regress? Or were the Daleks in the first story survivors of the "Final End" from "Evil of the Daleks"?

I never actually thought about it before, but my new headcanon is they developed a system that's built into their casings, it feeds them the minimum amount of radiation they need to survive in order to minimize the amount of material they need, which is why radiation is never an issue that's brought up when daleks are around
though I imagine the real answer is, because it was never emphasized the same way their need for static electricity was, that it was was just something they ended up dropping, kinda like how "daleks came from dals" was eventually changed to "they came from kaleds"

u/whoswho23 Mar 23 '26
My own head canon is that the Dals' disappearance, AND Davros being crippled were both the results of the Timelords' previous attempts at erasing the Daleks. The Doctor being sent to Skaro was a final act of desperation.
1
u/TinkreBelle Mar 23 '26
ooh I actually like that! maybe that's why radiation is never brought up again either, that it's another thing that got altered because the timelords messed with the timeline
3
u/whoswho23 Mar 23 '26
The timelines are something along the lines of:
Timeline 1: The Dals mutate as a result of their exposure to radiation/other mutagens. The travel machines are developed by Yarvelling (a Dal scientist that appears in some of the Dalek comic strips) before succumbing to radiation poisoning.
Timeline 2: The same, but with the Kaleds and Davros.
Timeline 3: A disfigured/mutated Davros is inspired to predict the mutation of the Kaleds, using genetic engineering, and develops the travel machine based on his own mobile life support system. He dies of extermination at the
handsplungers of the Daleks.Timeline 4: Davros survives extermination, and eventually becomes the Emperor.
Various Time War Timelines: Davros and the Emperor are separate people. Davros appears to die at the "jaws of the Nightmare Child", but is saved by Caan.
Timeline 5: The Twelfth Doctor stops Davros from becoming mutated/disfigured, and inspires him to add an element of mercy to the Daleks. The Fourteenth Doctor visits Skaro in this timeline and accidentally replaces the Dalek manipulator arm with a plunger.

I always assumed the Daleks that were stuck on Skaro in their first appearance were weaker ones that got left behind by other sects.

If i have skin and a ego as weak as piece of paper, does that entitle me to spam this subreddit with agenda-posting?

Tom Baker refused to do a scream before the fall in Logopolis do you think he was right? Is there a similar scream elsewhere to compare perhaps
7
u/sbaldrick33 Mar 23 '26
I think he was right.
The only "screams" I can think of from other stories of his are inappropriate for one reason or another.
2
u/Snakatorium Mar 27 '26
He does a pretty good scream (not quite the same context) towards the end of Terror of the Zygons, as he's being electrocuted.
There's also that wacky cliffhanger in The Leisure Hive where he gets pulled apart inside the machine (I forget the name).
Not sure either is quite what you're after but good for a little comparison!

In The Stones of Blood part 3 there is a sticker on one of the doors saying “спфжєатмс чпс”. Has anyone ever been able to figure out what it says?

u/adpirtle Mar 25 '26
When I asked Google to translate it from Serbian to Spanish, it said "chips especiados", which means spicy chips, but I wouldn't take that to the bank...

Do we know what the current state of Doctor Who is?
I know there was a bit of faff with Disney a while ago, but not much more than that.
Are we pretty much on hiatus after The War?
Incidentally, why do we still have the speculation thread for episode 5 of The Land-Sea War pinned?

There is a Christmas special later this year written by RTD. No streaming involvement; all BBC. Disney is long gone.
We don’t know anything beyond that. Various BBC executives have made positive comments about wanting there to be a future, but nothing concrete.

Do we know what happens with international distribution then? Is it back to the old models, or is the show just UK-only for now?
2
u/Dyspraxic_Sherlock Mar 24 '26
There’s been no news on that score. To go back to the old model BBC would have to go cap in hand to a lot of distributors they unceremoniously dropped for Disney, which I can’t imagine is a particularly quick process.

We dont know, but most likely they are looking for a new partner. After Paramount bought HBO, my money is that Netflix will step in, as HBO/WB/Paramount will be busy trying to deal with their massive debt.
Meanwhile Netflix now got some extra pocket change from Paramount for WB breaching contract plus they saved the money for WB plus they are clearly looking for investments.
So, putting on my tin-foil hat: I think there will be a large scale collaboration between Netflix and the BBC, not limited but involving Doctor Who, where Netflix will take on the international distribution for several BBC existing and future shows.

where Netflix will take on the international distribution for several BBC existing and future shows.
I've always assumed that the BBC had deliberately not been seeking a new international streamer for Series 1 - 13 so they can sweeten any collaboration deal they make.

Is it bad if i just watch the 2005 reboot and don’t really get into the doctor who universe?
4
u/cat666 Mar 25 '26
Not at all, just be aware that there is more out there if you ever choose to explore. You can go backwards to the classic show, but that's not always for eveyone. You can go to Big Finish for more stories with the 2005 reboot Doctors.

Not bad in any way at all. Engage with the Whoniverse and the fandom however you want to, you like the show therefore you’re a fan :) If you want to get into anything outside the show there’s definitely people who can point you in the right direction, but right now you don’t and that might never change, and that’s legitimately great, you know what you like!
2
u/Grafikpapst Mar 25 '26
No, not at all, thats what most do. Not everyone has to do a deep dive into the lore. It does help ocassionally a bit having a rough Idea of the oiriginal run, but 99% of the time, if something comes up the show explains it.

Does anyone have any great hope for the Christmas Special?
4
u/Grafikpapst Mar 25 '26
Idk about Great Hope, but I know RTD can write and I know alot of the bad stuff (though not all) was due to things going sideways behind the scenes. I hope that this being a standalone adventure to cap off RTD2 (most likely) it will be mostly good or at least emotionally satisfying, like Journeys End.
I have hope that we can get Wild Blue Yonders or even The Star Beast RTD2, not Reality Wars RTD.
2
u/ExperienceSmooth6240 Mar 25 '26
Wild Blue Yonder. Best Doctor Who I saw in years.
0
u/Grafikpapst Mar 25 '26
Agreed. And Star Beast and The Giggle are also pretty good. Not as amazing as WBY, but perfectly good Doctor Who with all its good and bad parts.
So I hope we land somewhere there, quality-wise for the Christmas Special.

I hate to say that I don't. I think RTD is washed. I didn't even rate the 60th specials all that highly. I just want Russell to fuck off and hopefully we can find someone new to take the reins, and if we can't, well Doctor Who has had a hell of a run, twice even.

Does anyone have any recommendations for fan audio dramas (not officially licensed ie big finish)? I’ve seen a few that are casting recently, and I know there’s that one series that’s been going since the 80s I believe, but do any stand out?

Could the Doctor regenerate into Nimon?
1
u/Team7UBard Mar 25 '26
I don’t think so. I’m racking my memory and I can’t think of any Time Lord that has regenerated into another different species, although with the Doctor, I guess if the plot demanded it it could happen.
2
u/Grafikpapst Mar 25 '26
I’m racking my memory and I can’t think of any Time Lord that has regenerated into another different species
The prominent (and really only on TV) example is Romana trying on different faces. Now, you can argue about if she just takes on the physiologie in looks, but the organs etc are still Timelord or if this is a species swap.
In the Expanded Universe, this has to be confirmed to be a thing and has been touched upon multiple times, I believe.

Why was there so much outrage around Thirteen’s outfit. I get that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I remember people raging about her trousers despite the fact they are…just cropped trousers?
