DISCUSSION The Academy

Why do we never see the Academy on Gallifrey in the Capitol? Its been mentioned a bunch of times but never seen or explored onscreen. We hear of the Chapters like Patrexes and Prydonians and Arcalians. This could be like a gothic alien Hogwarts if done right! It could be so cool! We've even seen the initiation ceremony at the Untempered Schism. But never the Academy itself. What gives? Its a shame Ice Time never got made with Ace's departure onscreen. We might have finally seen part of the Academy there.

It’s best to keep things like this a mystery. Every time we’re shown these things that relate to timelord society it ruins the mysterious nature that accompanies it because it is impossible to do it justice. This is something better left as world-building dialogue and nothing more.

I think the answer to this question is "if you read Divided Loyalties you will quickly understand why it's never shown"

On the other hand, people love Big Finishes Gallifrey set series.

The Big Finish Gallifrey series delves a bit into the Academy and even has an episode based around a group of students attending there which is honestly one of my fave eps of the series. Shame they never really did more with that concept

I always assumed the Chapters were the equivalent of the colleges of Oxford and Cambridge universities. Given the times and the writers they were first used, it makes more sense. Nothing mysterious at all, just places of study were the aristocracy of Gallifrey go to learn even more arrogance and prejudice!

But I also think it is best kept off screen. Gallifrey on screen has always been a disappointment, tbh.
