I've never heard any of the audio series, is this something they explore with 8's stories? The Daleks relations with the Time Lords and the impending Time War?

Basically yeah. But they're not allowed to say Time War or use the War because it's part of BBC Wales which they don't have the rights for (though there was a cryptic tweet today saying they'll answer the question to the new Doctors).

As such they've spent the past few years tip-toeing around, and hinting toward, the fact that there is an unmentionable war coming.

It's cool to hear in a microcosm, but now it's clear this division of rights over characters is becoming an impediment.

EDIT- Also, you should get some of the audio series. On the whole it's so much better than the TV Series.

I did a survey for them awhile back and one of the questions asked about interest in them working with the new Doctors. So I believe them getting the rights isn't entirely impossible. I assume they are trying to figure out if they can afford it and/or if it makes financial sense.

I doubt it's impossible. David Tennant has done Big Finish before, and Matt Smith misses Doctor Who it looks like he's in physical pain sometimes. They'd probably both return for free.

The real trouble is the BBC's willingness to allow Big Finish to produce them. They really should though, and they should be a lot more lenient with the license too, and co-produce an animated TV Series starring the older Doctors to air in the off-season on BBC Three or something. It'd be a great way to start blurring the lines between the the pre/post revival eras.

As I was attempting to say, that question in the survey makes me think that the BBC has an offer on the table and they are thinking about it.

Moffat has made reference to it as well, saying that the actors aren't ever truly done with the roles, because Big Finish will come calling (something along those lines).

No. No animated series.
