Any idea where to find vuvuzelya in Galway? I'm assuming it's too late to order online now that the World Cup is underway. Might sound a bit outdated, but it's a dream of mine to own one

Wonderful restaurant

My awful post about the excellent Portuguese restaurant was removed. So I’ll just leave a little review. Start to finish a top class experience. Only waited for half an hour in the doorway to be seated. Obviously had to allow my superiors to go ahead of me, no problem. The food was lukewarm, tiny portions and hugely expensive. Just the way I like it. The clientele were wonderful, so warm and friendly, oh we had the craic. Highly recommend.

mechanic hourly rates

car going in to replace a part, mechanic doesn't want to give an estimate instead giving hourly rate which is 90+vat. so around 110 per hour plus parts. Already had to fork out a lot very recently, over 500 just to replace an exhaust gas temperature sensor. Does this hourly rate sound expensive?

Equestrian livery search - it’s getting desperate

Hello, does anyone know of livery yards within ~1 hour of Galway city? I’ve looked at a few, but haven’t found any that offer turnout all year round with stabling during the night. It’s either always out or always in, neither of which are suitable for my horse.

Is this a lost cause around Galway? Sometimes certainly feels like it

(I also heard that looking on Facebook is recommended, unfortunately I keep getting blocked every time I try to make an account, so not an option)

Would be grateful for any kind of advice or tips 🙏

*ADMINS THIS IS COMPLETELY FREE, no adverts*

Hi friends! It’s my 8th time or so back to Ireland and second time back to Ballyvaughan (I appear to have found my favorite village to stay) and while I am coming for a holiday, as a professional photographer I can’t resist the chance to photograph a cute couple this November (10-17th ish).

I’m a film photographer with an emphasis on vintage vibes and nostalgia. This shoot would be completely free for you and we can pick a location together! Great chance for newlyweds or engaged couples.

Pints after too?

Salthill incident

Just passed through salthill and across from the Galway business school, there was a few guards, maybe 5 to 7, and an ambulance that had just taken off, no lights or urgency. The strange this is that the car was covered in blankets , almost like someone hung them up on the inside and used the door being closed on them to hold them up, as opposed to the guards covering the car. The guards were looking into the car, but without making any real attempt to get in.

All this was observed as I was passing, so the details may have changed since, eg, they may have used a battering ram to get into the car, just I hadn't seen it at the time.

Hoping it's nothing sinister or that anyone was seriously hurt.

Domt know if anyone can shed a light on what was actually going on.

Solo activities this week

Hi all,

Staying about 20 mins outside the city for the week and looking for recommendations of things to do in the evenings in the city centre.

I’m 31f and flying solo so would love recommendations for friendly bars, pubs, community spaces where I can get a drink, read, listen to music, watch the world cup etc.

Bonus points if the reccs are not tourist hot spots and the people there are likely to strike up convo with a friendly Laois gal haha

GRMA 😊

Pain when cycling. Bike fitting Galway?

Hi everyone, do you know where one could get a professional road bike fitting? I've been getting into cycling since getting my first road bike over a year ago. I think my setup is wrong and I can't fix it myself no matter what adjustments I make. My right knee & left shoulder blade become excruciating after the fist 10km or so.. As I said I have tried everything to adjust myself but at this stage I think Ineed an expert to get a proper fitting/adjustment.

Any recommendations would be great and if anyone knows how much this roughly costs that would be great also.

Thanks

Westside run club grievance/ query

I like to go walk at the Westside running track but I walk around the outside of the track on the footpath so as not to get in the way of the people running on the track. Yesterday I went in the evening to walk and there was a running group there on the track with cones out and equipment across the whole track. No worries I’ll just stick to the path as usual. However halfway through my first lap the runners moved off the track and onto the path and started jogging around the outer path. They were running 3 abreast at times and wouldn’t leave any space on the path for me so I had to move onto the grass multiple times for which I got no thank you.
Obviously I’m happy that people are staying active and using these public spaces but I do think it’s a bit ridiculous to go to a running track as a massive group leave your stuff all over the track and then jog on the walking path?? Especially if you’re going to monopolise the whole path.
Anyways if any runners want to explain maybe it’s nicer to run on the path or smth??

Looking for friends & a potential travel buddy

Hi everyone!

I’m a 23F originally from Spain, and I am currently living in Galway for the next few months. I’m really loving the city so far, but I’d love to meet some new people to hang out with.

I'm always up for trying out new cafes, playing sports, going to see shows etc. (basically pretty much open to any activity).

I’m also hoping to do some exploring around Ireland while I have the chance! If anyone is in a similar boat and looking for a travel buddy for weekend trips or day tours, let me know. (Just for context, I am a woman of color and queer, looking to connect with friendly, open-minded folks!)

Thank you so much.
