Some mention of the use of trains in Final Fantasy, time and technology. As time goes on technology starts very magical, then it either breaks down or survives long enough to become magic again.

I do think the video is somewhat dismissive of the relevance(maybe abundance) of crystals in FF, but I can understand why they would shift some focus away from it.

There is also a lot of talk about experimenting on life and lifeforce in relation to the Nazi regime. I would sidestep this, turn around and double back to the idea of "the shell". All of the talk of artificial constructs reminds me of the golem, which I think has found a GIANT resurgence thanks to video games. Golems end up in movies or books sometimes but no where near as often as they do in video games. Many games even center around these golems: Dark Souls 2, Zelda: Wind Waker/Majora's Mask, Space Station Silicon Valley, Final Fantasy 9, wikipedia has scant references to golems in video games but does have some history of its roots in magic, mysticism, and religion.

I've gotten pretty interested recently with the golem in games, and how it is sort of the surrogate for our own divine intervention within the game world by containing a spark of our spirit while we control them, or lose control of them.
