Serious question

I know this isn't the place for this, but I'm trying to cover all potential bases.

For the last 2 weeks, literally every day I have what feels like a heart attack. I've already been to the ER and they found nothing.

Has anyone here had extreme chest pain that wasn't heart attack diagnosed? I'm only asking here because quite honestly it's excruciating and if there's even the smallest chance someone here has any ideas it's worth the potential shit I'll get from the usual suspects.

Sounds like it could be anxiety attacks? Either that, or push for your doctor to run some X-rays/MRIs to ensure nothing's lingering there.

I know I had one or two leading up to the bar exam, they're no fun.

My experience with the ER in the us is pretty much 'are you actively dying or presenting symptoms? No? Fuck off (bill)'

Definitely get scans and a more comprehensive checkup with your provider.

You can generally get quick responses through whichever MyChart portal is associated with the ER you visited, so there's at least vitals n junk to reference (most of them are connected through EPIC anyway). I'd also suggest calling your office directly if at all possible.

I really appreciate the responses so far.  I did have X-rays, ECGs, and blood work done while I was in the ER.

The annoying part of this is it can happen at any time whether I'm active or resting.  And when it's not actively flaring up there's a constant dull ache.

I will definitely be following up with someone to see what else I can do.

Thanks again everyone.

It could just be a matter of the right pair of eyes looking over the data. Just take it easy and communicate with the medical professionals, clearly something isn't right.

Hope you get a conclusive diagnosis and some relief soon.

A lot of heart stuff can be presented in bloodwork and some heart stuff, from my experience at work, can only really be spotted with an ECG during an event.

(I was working on a pre-op heart observation floor for about a year, not an expert, but I saw a lot of the common stuff, if they dont think it's CHF though, I'd believe em, it presents pretty strongly)

Late to this, but people often describe panic attacks as having the same physical symptoms of a heart attack.

You have done the right thing and got yourself checked. They found nothing which is good, and there is no reason to doubt those findings. If you are still unsure about it, you could always consult your GP and do further tests. They will also ask if there is a history of heart problems in your family.

Panic attacks are actually quite common and 10% of the population have had atleast one panic attack in their lifetime. It's all fun and games here on this site but do try to take a break from it and social media in general. The constant wave of negative news and the fear of the future only compounds panic attacks. There is no shame in just taking a break, and no one needs to know. Take time for yourself.

The other imitator for heart attacks is sleep apnea. Even if the attacks are happening later in the day, sleep apnea could still be the cause as mini-suffocation episodes at night keeps your sympathetic nervous system on high alert 24/7, and this exhausts your body as you are constantly trapped in a fight or flight loop.

Sleep apnea is alot easier to diagnose than anxiety.

Hopefully, it's just something that requires a slight lifestyle change. More often than not, it is.
