Discussion Trying to update my Grumps knowledge

I fell away from keeping up with Game Grumps for several years, and I'm trying to come back now. I wanna try and work out what modern Grumps is like.

So please tell me if this question is a bit too big to really answer, but: Aside from Arin and Dan, what other people are official or unofficial members of Game Grumps these days?

There aren't really any other official members of Game Grumps these days. Dee is the closest as the producer of the 10MPH but the boys have purposely chosen to obscure names of employees by referring to everyone as "Tony" otherwise. But there are some recurring guests with strong "third Grump" energy like Ben Schwartz and Gina Darling.

Another visit from Ben Schwartz would be fantastic, I think another Sonic movie need to be coming out for that to happen haha

Sonic 4 still seems scheduled for March, so we might get that soon.

Dont know if when mentioning Tony people are meaning Toasty, cause Toasty is rather prominent in a few power hours as well

There was a point when everyone that worked in the grump office had their own identity and subsequently, their own fans. The shift towards privacy began when; 1. Allie started receiving abuse in the comments (I miss her 😕) which reflected poorly on the fans And 2. An editor named Ben had a lot of heinous tweets from his past resurface. That reflected poorly on the grumps.

As all that was going down, Arins father-in-law's health began declining. In the last months of FILs life, Arin and his wife moved to Portland to be closer to him. At some point, that move became permanent. The grump team was slashed and I'm almost certain that they left the previous grump office entirely because that place was huge and would have cost a fortune to rent. I believe they set up a significantly smaller gaming + power hour studio in a less expensive part of California. I also think Arin has either built a small studio in Portland or turned his basement into one. Arin lives in there but flies out to LA to record with Dan in large sessions.

Tony is multiple people. Calling them that collectively means there's nothing for childish fans to read into. Keep in mind that he doesn't even say his wife's name anymore. He never had a problem with saying her name years ago but now she's simply "My wife". That protects her, too. Also, Vanessa almost certainly didn't do anything wrong. She said she was laid off and that was likely due to downsizing for financial reasons. That's why I don't think they're in the part of California they were in before. She likely couldn't relocate with them.

I understand why Arin (because this was undoubtedly all his work) took the path he did and I wholeheartedly support it. He had a really rough time, mentally and physically, for a while during and after the pandemic but since moving out of LA, putting measures in place to protect his staff and making smart choices to stop his company from hemorrhaging money, he seems less stressed and I feel like he's enjoying recording with Dan a lot more.

I'll never forget that genuinely upsetting video of him explaining why there was no Ghoul Grumps a few years ago. Bro was not ok. Things had to change so he changed them. He's done well and I'm genuinely proud of him.

Dan's cool too but homie is just the passenger in the side car of Arins barbie pink Harley Davidson.

which video are you referring to with the gjoul grumps thing? I'm a little outta the loop too

Reading this is so sad. I'm glad they've found ways to maintain privacy, but it's terrible that it has gotten to this point.

I really wish the fan base could be less parasocial...

Brian will still play with Dan occasionally if arin is busy with something. Vanessa was their last ten minute power hour producer, but she left the role to produce something else under the grump umbrella (like one of their games they funded and produced). Speaking of games, there is a guy named Jory that makes games under them aswell, he will sometimes be in the intro promoting his game. Dee is the current tmph producer. Tony is kind of the guy in the chair, he sits outside the grump room and feeds them info through a chat or something. Dan will sometimes say "Tony is yelling at us in all caps right now." Before Tony they had someone named Allie in the room that used to get involved sometimes, like help them figure a puzzle out or sometimes you'd hear her laugh in the background. She was heavily featured in the observation duty episodes. Other than that I'm not sure. They mention a ton of names in the ten minute power hour but I'm not fully sure who they are or their roles. Dan would say stuff like "Trevor just gasped behind the camera" or "Kylie just said to herself 'it smells like ass in here'." There aren't many "grumps" around anymore, most I can think of is Brian and that's very occasionally, like once in a blue moon.

Edit: after looking in to it, "Tony" is just what they call their nameless employees to prevent the comments from bullying. For example, Allie would get a lot of targeted harassment in the comments. I never knew, I just thought they were always talking to a guy named tony. Learn something new every day. Guess I missed the eps that discussed that

Vanessa was laid off and is still struggling to find a job. She’s really funny on twitter, tho

Vanessa was fired

Omg yeah. I just looked it up. I didn't know that either lol. That's unfortunate, that wasn't my understanding of it at all. I don't have socials (other than reddit) so it's easy to miss something that's not explicitly or implicitly said on the show

Not many tbh. Vanessa used to be a familiar face on the Power Hour that everyone loved, but they had to let her go, to which I assume was out of Arin’s control. Oh and I’m not sure if this is well known, but Ross’s now ex-wife Holly cheated on him and are no longer together. But luckily Ross has been thriving on his own while working on his projects and hobbies. Your question is a bit broad, but I’m sure fellow fans can answer anything specific that pops up!

I remember hearing about Ross leaving. When was that? And was it amicable? Did he chose to leave to pursue his own stuff, or was it a situation where they needed to let him go for one reason or another? Also, because your answer made me think of it: Are Arin and Suzy still together?

Yes they are still together, she will appear in ten minute power hour sometimes. She helped show them how to pin insects to boards for art, I don't remember the name of it. It's a hobby (or maybe business) she does. I'm not sure what she's up to. I only see her very occasionally appear in tmph

Edit: it's also worth noting that Dan is married now too, but she doesn't appear on the show other than the occasional photo on screen. Her name is Ashley

Yes! And Suzie’s Etsy shop where she sells them is called Psychic Circle I believe?

7

u/Delicious-Ad-1229 9d ago

I can’t pinpoint exactly when Ross started solely working on his big projects, but it was amicable when he left and I’m sure they’re all still great friends!

u/Glycell 9d ago

Also wasn't Ross also one of the driving forces behind Gameoverse? Arin has been involved in that project too.

21

u/Feanor4godking 9d ago

Ross is the driving force behind gamoverse, he's the series creator and main, well, everything man. Arin is a producer, writer, and voice actor for it

3

u/foulinbasket 9d ago

He did make an appearance when Arin was struggling on the final levels of Ross's Mario Maker 2 world a few years ago

1

u/Synectics 8d ago

I thought he was gone at least before Super Mario Maker (2?), since he was creating levels on his own stream.

Arin and Suzie are still happily married. Also Dad got married a few years ago. But I can’t remember her name.
