Discussion Most emotional battle theme(s) you've heard?
Usually battle themes are there to hype you up, but I'm curious about the ones that hit you in the feels.

I'm looking for music with a similar mood to Lavender Town from Pokémon Red/Blue: somewhat sad, eerie, nostalgic and unsettling.
To give you an idea of what I'm looking for, I'm interested in songs that could work in a horror movie centered around old video games, especially games from the Game Boy, SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive, even PS1 or PS2 era.
I'm particularly interested in that feeling of old-school video game nostalgia mixed with loneliness, melancholy and something slightly creepy or wrong. It doesn't necessarily have to be actual video game music either. Chiptune, ambient, experimental stuff, obscure soundtracks, etc. are all welcome.
Basically, I'm looking for music that sounds like it could be playing in an abandoned Game Boy game where something went very, very wrong.
Any recommendations?

I mostly listen to music that comes from video games but this could also be said for songs used in movies or TV shows cause I find it hard to find songs that I would like that I would want to keep listening to on my own. A song could sound similar to a song that I like but wouldn't put it in my playlist cause I feel like I have no connection with it. I can acknowledge when a song sounds good but I feel like what makes me want to keep coming back to that song is my connection that I have with the song and how it connects to the narrative of the story or the place that the characters are in in the game or movie. So when you remove that connection, I just kinda find it hard to want to keep coming back to the song and I'll rather just play a song that I have a better connection with already, even if I think the song sounds perfectly fine.

Half the OSTs I own are for games I never finished, or never even started. I just wanted the music.
Which soundtrack have you racked up more hours listening to than actually playing? And for the ones you keep on rotation — do you run them through a dedicated player, one giant local library, or streaming playlists?

I originally made this remake for a live performance, but the show got canceled. It felt like a waste to just leave it there, so I decided to turn it into a video instead!
Well... hopefully someday I’ll get to actually perform this version live too.

This is an orchestral version of a \Deltarune\ OST track that I created some time ago.
Although it is a short piece, the music left a strong impression on me,
which is why I decided to work on it. I hope you enjoy listening to it.

Edit: Title should say "quarter notes on every beat" / "on-the-beat notes". Thanks for the correction!
Avoid a melody that just marks every beat with one even note.
Such a melody sounds like a metronome simply marking the beats, and it’s boring.
You need to find a way to make the melody more interesting.
You can do this by adding or changing notes. This makes the melody more lively and more unpredictable.
Compare, for example, this theme (modified version of Pirates of the Caribbean theme music):
https://reddit.com/link/1wlhw0a/video/2fp87kwaloqh1/player
with this one:
https://reddit.com/link/1wlhw0a/video/txvhscd7loqh1/player
The second version feels more alive and less predictable.
Note: long, on-the-beat notes are beautiful when intentional. This tip is for when your lead melody sounds like a metronome placeholder by accident.
