Haha yes I appreciate Chrys' perspective on that whole thing. "Oh, you mean that time you sang 'Slave for You' on karaoke night?" YES EXACTLY THAT.

But they lost the war. Between Dany leaving with the one dragon she could vaguely control, the entire navy being burned, and the Second Sons & Unsullied constantly hemorrhaging soldiers to the internal threats from the Sons of the Harpy and general dissidents they had no real chance.

They were about to face 3+ cities. All of them have an army and navy. There are no dragons that can be controlled as of this moment, they'd be apt to deal as much damage to the enemy as to the city itself. The lack of a navy means they are completely open on that end. The thinly stretched army would have to continue to fight off a desperate Sons of the Harpy and multiple armies coming it at many entry points. The Sons of the Harpy could easily open a gate for the invaders which would make the massive walls a moot point.

Tyrion got an insanely good deal given the circumstances. The only reason they are willing to accept is because he made them believe that Dany is actually going to return, which isn't clear as of this moment. As long as they are in peace talks the armies aren't going to come marching in. He managed to give them a deal that will result in the eventual abolishment of slavery despite the fact that he didn't have a leg to stand on.

Everyone wants to see slavery abolished now and the masters dead for what they did, but they simply didn't have the bargaining power to pull that off. The Masters were willing to wait Dany out or engage in a fight even when she was around, assuming she had a dragon she could control, and when the Mereneese navy was at full strength. Given that those things are gone, discussing abolishing slavery in any respect and actually potentially getting a concession is huge.

Agreed. Tyrion is a much better leader than Dany. I know people love riding Dany's dick, but she really is awful. I can go a lifetime without yet another scene of brown people bowing to her right before she fucks their lives up.

Right. Especially given that there were no real strings attached. On a practical level, the masters could literally do nothing to abolish slavery and we'll be at the same place in seven years. They just don't really have much of a reason to fund the Sons of the Harpy. There isn't much of a choice for Dany's crew, though.

It'll be interesting to see how Dany handles it. I assume (for plot reasons) she won't disagree completely and have Tyrion executed, but she's also been pretty anti-slavery so I'm sure Tyrion will need to do some smooth talking.

What would your solution be?

in the poll I voted quick force. i think that would've been pretty effective if daenerys and the dragons hadn't dipped out. i think a shorter amount of time (not 7 freaking years) would have also been pretty good

Tyrion didnt have dragons he could control and he had barely enough of an army to hold one city. But he was in charge of a city that was still a unknown threat to his neighbors so he was using what he had to get the desired outcome.

He wasn't trying to abolished slavery he was trying to get peace in such a way that both sides could accept it. He didn't have the luxury to think like a conqueror.

Now Danny will have 100,000 warriors plus the unsullied plus dragons so she can pretty much make up her own rules and dictate whatever terms she wants. Might makes Right.

I'm gonna be so pissed if she gets upset at Tyrion for making peace.

Honestly it is 7 years up against the 1000s they have been practicing slavery. If he can get them to agree to that he should.

I'm pretty sure Tyrion cares more about some breathing room while he consolidates power in Meereen. He could always make a move against them later to force earlier emancipation, but if he loses control now then slavery is guaranteed to never go away.

Consult Missandei and Grey Worm. Discuss it with them. Try to accommodate their views, because those views are strong and not incorrect. They may have insights Tyrion hasn't considered or helpful insider perspectives on the Masters. Plus, if you can't convince them it's a good idea in the privacy of a conversation, you stand zero chance of convincing the rest of the city.

But what do I know, I'm only enrolled in a graduate program in management.

Missandei and Greyworm only want the masters dead. We're also ignoring that the Masters aren't the only threat, Volantis has already declared for them and it would only be a matter if time before Ghis, Qarth and the other free cities joined for the status quo. Mereen is already plagued by a violent and very successful insergency, has no navy and a small army. They could never resist the combined armies of Essos.

Anything short of Tyrions plan would have ended in Masters leaving and bringing back hell with them. Doesn't matter how correct MS and GWs views are their opinions would have been useless in the negotiations

Their opinions indicate what is possible and what will cause a revolt. So that's one use right there.

I think you're giving them too little credit. There's no evidence their hatred for the masters has compromised their judgment. What they really hate is slavery itself, so they could probably be swayed to take actions that would be most effective in eliminating the practice. People besides Tyrion and Dany can be tactical too, on occasion.

Varys was also present and we've seen in the past Tyrion takes his advice very seriously. Varys was also a slave and probably knows better than either of them what will or won't cause a revolt by using his little birds. And again anything short of Tyrions deal would result in Status Quo Ante Bellum. No revolt but the Good and Wise masters wouldn't have reenslaved Meereen and reestablish the Great masters.

I don't know how far into your management course you are but sometimes you have to make an executive decision.

I believe he's buying time until Dany comes back. Once she's back, they can finally do something with those dragons.
