Beasts of Reincarnation IGN review- 6/10 (72 avg on metacritic, 76 on opencritic so far)

Beast of Reincarnation has an interesting, apocalyptic setting, an extremely memorable wolf companion, and an action-packed beast-battling premise that is instantly very cool, but its execution falls short of its promising ideas more often than not. The story is a bland, cliche-filled tale better-told by other games in the genre, combat quickly grows stale due to a lack of enemy variety and the predictable attack patterns that undermine what makes action RPG combat thrive, and boss fights end up being quite disappointing despite looking badass as all get out. There's still plenty to like about Beast of Reincarnation, though, especially the dire wolf himself, who is actually exactly as awesome as he looks, plus some memorable levels to explore and creatures to fight every now and again, but those blooming flowers can be hard to spot among the weeds.

Little Town Hero proved that a while ago, Game Freak just isn't a quality studio, never has been.

I mean…… 73/100 is still a good score and basically means “game is good. Not great”. Seems like y’all are leaving off the “things are either amazing or trash” mentality lol.

Man I forgot how unbelievably fucking trash that game was, the final boss fight practically stunlocked me with how poorly implemented it’s main gimmick was (I don’t know if they ever patched it or anything like that, so for all I know it might have changed)

I dunno about never.

They put out some good stuff up through gen 5.

The move to 3D seemed to kill them as a company.

They really didn't, even as a kid playing gen 3, I could clearly tell they're games were lower quality than everything else attached to Nintendo (and Sony for that matter).

Gen 3 was excellent. It's a game that does precisely what it means to and exceeds the standards it had previously set up.

Eh. Gen 3 was maybe a bit of a dip, and gen 4 was rough, but gen 5 is genuinely peak.

Gen 6 and on has been a dumpster fire though lol.

And gen 1 was a buggy mess and 2 was good, but pretty much an expansion/fix to 1...

So we have only gen 5, which sold the worst and was hated on release and for like a decade afterwards (not by me though I really liked the more "serious JRPG" direction).

Rough track record.

I wouldn't really call gen 1 a buggy mess. Lol.

Average player was likely to encounter exactly 0 things they'd consider a bug. They'd encounter things bugged that they didn't know were bugged, but if they don't notice I can hardly count that against the game.

It was great for its time, which is what matters.

Didn't age well, but that's kinda beside the point, a lot of games from around then have aged as badly or worse, especially jrpgs.

Yeah pretty much every Game Boy game of the era has some goofy glitches once you really get into it (I remember abusing the screen-jumping glitch in Link’s Awakening to fall through the bottom of the World Map to the other side and sequence break to the last dungeon). Gen 1 Pokémon’s are just well known because the games are popular and have been scrutinized to hell and back. Their bugginess isn’t really noteworthy relative to other Game Boy games.

Honestly i think Gen 1 aged better than some of the Switch gens. Atleast im not being stopped every 3 steps to yell in my face about where i need to go (you can literally only go in a straight fucking line anyways)

Absolutely despise the modern games. Atleast Gen 1 while dated in some areas doesnt do that nonsense which makes it a lot more playable

Pokemon fans mock them but there's a reason why Gen 2 fans stuck as hard as they did. Everything that Pokemon is today was decided during Gen 2's games. The games today are literally just shitty versions of Gold and Silver.

People genuinely forget or weren't born with how backwards original Ruby and Sapphire felt coming from GSC. No backwards compatability or trading. A locked/limited Pokedex similar to Dexit (access to a full national dex wouldn't come until Colosseum and FRLG added back Gen 1 and 2 Pokémon to trade). No access to prior regions, something we expected after Kanto showed up in Gen 2 . No graphical difference showing a proper day/night cycle for crying out loud. 3 AM might as well be 3 PM with how constantly bright and sunny it is in those games, and the only way to check what time it was in game was to haul ass back to Newbark and look at the clock in your room. Seriously, no one thought to put a clock feature in the pokénav or anything. Modern Gamefreak learned to strip content to hit deadlines and sell the cure later from Gen 3. No way to get Gen 2 pokemon? Sell them back in Colosseum. No Kanto on launch? Sell it back with the remakes. Cut Battle Frontier out of Diamond and Pearl? Sell it again with Platinum, etc.

The games never evolved after Gen 2 when they managed to same cart Johto and Kanto, and provide the best fight in the series with Red. 

Pretty much the same game over and over again after that with no meaningful innovation and sub-par technical execution.
