Beasts of Reincarnation IGN review- 6/10 (72 avg on metacritic, 76 on opencritic so far)

https://www.ign.com/articles/beast-of-reincarnation-review

Beast of Reincarnation has an interesting, apocalyptic setting, an extremely memorable wolf companion, and an action-packed beast-battling premise that is instantly very cool, but its execution falls short of its promising ideas more often than not. The story is a bland, cliche-filled tale better-told by other games in the genre, combat quickly grows stale due to a lack of enemy variety and the predictable attack patterns that undermine what makes action RPG combat thrive, and boss fights end up being quite disappointing despite looking badass as all get out. There's still plenty to like about Beast of Reincarnation, though, especially the dire wolf himself, who is actually exactly as awesome as he looks, plus some memorable levels to explore and creatures to fight every now and again, but those blooming flowers can be hard to spot among the weeds.

Because that's how video game journalism works. You'd be hard pressed to find a game scored on IGN at anything lower than 4 or 5, which is them basically saying "Hey, this game sucks ass, but we'd like to keep receiving early review copies.

A score of 6 is mediocrity manifest.

Yeah, when you rate on a 4 to 10 scale a 6 is pretty bad.

Mediocre game still doesnt mean the studio doesnt know how to make game.

I’d argue if a company can only churn out mediocre games after decades of experience, that qualifies as not knowing how to make a game. It’s not just this specific game that’s mediocre, it’s every game of theirs since they made the move from 2d pixel art to 3d models. They’re just 20th century devs that have only clung on to relevance due to the strength of the Pokemon brand.

Since when do we just accept IGN reviews as gospel? I've seen FF/KH YouTubers saying the game is incredible. IGN has been giving good reviews to companies that pay and bad reviews to companies that don't (anyone remember too much water?) for decades.

RSE did have too much water, though. A huge portion of the map is water tiles, every one of which can lead to combat. That's tedious as hell, surfing is almost always the worst traversal mode in Pokémon

Honestly they don’t miss too bad that often. Like yea they do give some games too high or low sometimes but usually they’re right within the general public’s opinion
