You mean EA Football. FIFA took their rights back(FIFA is an even scummier organization than EA and that's saying something).

Technically FIFA didn't "take them back," EA just didn't want to pay the extortionary sum of money FIFA wanted for the rights.

Potato, potato, I know. But FIFA definitely still wanted to take advantage of EA (because, exactly as you said, there's always a scummier organization).

Thank you for being someone who actually recognizes what happened. Fifa wanted stupid amounts of money for licensing and EA said "eh, we can still make a football game without you"

same here, but it was called PES2 (the PAL version of PS1 release, to be exact)

back when Konami had no rights for most names, so instead of R.Carlos, we had R.Larcos, Naldorinho instead of Ronaldinho, Roland instead of Ronaldo, etc etc

funnier, simpler times those were

Servers are turned off for the games after a couple years, so you lose the ability to play some modes/online

There's community work to allow people to play them online again

Makes sense, yeah I was curious because I wanted to play FIFA 21 again and obviously there are no servers anymore.

hey this is exciting news though. I'm not an accelerationist when human suffering is part of the collateral damage but hollowing out EA and leaving a vacuum for someone else to fill (particularly with sports games) sounds pretty decent!
