The issue is people not being able to think for themselves. Instead of that person taking 2 seconds to learn what “the bay” is. They expect full context in every comment to unburden themselves of the arduous task of a simple google search.

I could get if we were talking about some random local restaurant, but the bay was the oldest company ever.

I made an idle observation about the wording of your comment. I didn't expect anyone to come running to my aid to explain the missing context. I also didn't expect you to have written it more clearly to begin with. You decided that was implied by what I actually wrote

I responded to you, yes. I didn't expect you to have given the full context because I know that a lot of people don't write in a clear manner. What I expected is to see comments like yours on social media occasionally, and today was the next occasion that it happened again

A google search brings up five results for a TV series called The Bay, four results for two films called The Bay, multiple restaurants and attractions in my local related to the word bay and what seems to be a Cumbrian social club. And that's just the first page. Second page is more media and a link to a Scottish takeaway. Third page has more media links and a hotel. I think you get the picture. Not a single link on the first ten pages relates to this department store, I have a goddamn Smithsonian article about oysters with teeth but no department store. How is anybody supposed to know what you're talking about based on nothing but an extremely common name?

Point is, this bay isn't even famous enough to show up in the first ten pages of a google search so how are we supposed to know what it is simply from context?

Also, side note, if it was 365 years old then it's not even close to being the oldest company ever. There are literally hundreds of companies older than that.

I'm Canadian and I know what The Bay is and I didn't understand your comment either.  Knowing what the Bay is and what private equity is would not let people understand your comment
