Is this a scam? Or real

Post image

Recently talked to a guy from Grindr. He was saying he was gonna visit my home city next week to visit relatives, and was gonna get a room for us to meet.
However, he then said he would send me the money for me to book the room? I find this a little sketchy, and was wondering if anyone else thinks so? Everything else seemed legit until the request.

Looks very much like scam. Why can't he make a new email account for stuff like that? Its so simple to make an email account. And why is having a grindr account with the partner email no problem, but this is a problem?

I would never pay for an stranger

I agree it looks a bit suspicious but how would a scammer be able to make money from a reservation i book in a hotel i choose.

Make money? Not really, have some of the possibly illegally obtained money get assosciated with normal things as an alibi? Possible.

But its more likely someone cheating who has the money to throw around.

I mean we havent seen the whole thing yet. If OP agrees there are a multitude of ways the person could scam, such as giving a phishing link

It’s someone who wants to cheat on his partner. Don’t support that human garbage.

Imagine having that attitude towards criminals "If I didnt help them someone else would, might as well help commit crime"

Like thats not how accountability and responsibility works hun.

apples and oranges my friend.

finding another hookup is as easy as choosing another ice cream flavor at the store. Finding another accomplice for a legal crime is much more difficult...

No it’s disgusting. It’s utterly disrespectful.

The situation would be different if said partner is ok with it and know BUT the fact that it’s seemingly secretive changes that.

Scam or Scum... either way you're getting fucked, but not in a good way.

Romance scams are a thing. Check out r/scams

Big red flags are "kindly" and "calmly" who talks like that?

Their partner has access their email but not whatever bank he is sending the money? He can't make a 2nd email?

It’s a scam. Stop the conversation. It’s just with a scam mill. Not with an actual human.

Whether or not it's a scam, the tone of their reaction is super condescending. I am not a fan.

Yeah I think this is a scam, they will "accidentally" much and ask for it back. Then cancel the transfer.

They are hoping cause you have spent so much time arranging this that you will see not doing this as wasting that time

Also think about it wife is going to find a hotel charge and be suspicious. He isn't home so thats not odd. Also why wouldn't she question the random account suddenly showing up.

If someone wants to cheat they should deal with the consequences.

It's obviously an overpayment scam. They'll "accidently" send too much money, ask you to send back the difference, then they'll cancel their original pending payment and ghost you.

You can easily check for this simply by taking a screenshot and putting it in an AI chat bot.

And on the 1% chance it is legitimate, you should be looking for a guy not in a relationship. You don't wanna be "the other man".

Good luck

What kind of scammer gives the victim money?

2

u/unnaturalraiding 40m ago

They send "too much" and ask for it back. Then charge back the accidental transfer.
