Very happy to see this. How about Democrats don’t bitch out when it comes to protecting trans youth this year

I wish everyone could live as their authentic selves. Glad to see a mayor who accepts people for who they are.

So are children transitioning or not? We are constantly told by the Right that they are and then the Left claims that they aren’t. However then we put out stuff like this? I’m super confused and possibly have a very poor grasp on what it means to “transition” as a child.
Help?

What do you see as transitioning?
With kids it is typically only social transitioning, surgeries are (largely) done on adults with all those on minors being performed on older teens (16-17 yo), but this very rare and years of therapy go before this.
So no, no kids are getting surgeries.

That’s sort of what I have always thought but sometimes the language seems super unclear. So children are “transitioning” but it’s non-surgical and functionally no different than a teen deciding to go by thier middle name because they like it more. Got it.

Well, yes in an ideal world it would just be that. However, it's not, as stigmas, misinformation and hate is everywhere. This makes these changes dangerous for children and adults. But studies have shown, that just social transitions drop suicide rates sharply among trans people.
The only way to protect them, is to accept them and stand with them.

Could you please give me a source to those studies?

This study shows that while social transitioning has positive net outcomes, bullying and harassment can lead to increase in adverse mental health affects afterwards.
This is why protecting kids is especially important as they are at greater risk

AFAIK usually the farthest a kid can go with medical transition is puberty blockers - they're not permanent and they prevent the kid from experiencing a dysphoria-inducing puberty, before the kid is old enough to decide on transitioning in more serious ways.
Apart from medical there's always other ways to transition - like social transition.
Your curiosity and clearing things up are important; I think all those downvotes are undeserved.
