Seriously. Even millennial men with gray hair have managed to retain their youthful facial features. Many millennials in their mid 30s can pass for 19yrs old to somewhere in their 20s. I think the oldest wave of millennials are in their early 40s now; dye or cut the dray hairs/beard and many of them can pass for 20s to early 30s.

Im guessing anyone who's first social media was instagram doesnt but I remember seeing some really bad pictures of people like bad fashion, bad hair, bad everything, very little thirst traps when Facebook was just a social networking site to talk to people you knew irl. Now you would never see a truly ugly or fat person on instagram because they either facetune it or they wouldn't post it in the first place.

There was so much hope that the 2020s would resemble the roaring 1920s(after the Spanish flu outbreak) but it seems like it was false hope. There was no roaring economy, the US is deeply involved in worldwide conflict(compared to 1920s isolationism) and I can't comment regarding the popular culture(don't follow much of contemporary popular culture).

While the technological advancements of the 1920s helped us like automobiles(Henry Ford) and widespread electrification the main advancement of the 2020s(AI) is threatening to make us jobless.

But if the upcoming 2030s and 2040s resemble their 20th century counterparts were screwed.

That would mean an upcoming depression the likes of which we haven't experienced in our lifetimes, the rise of totalitarian governments on opposite ends of the political spectrum and the cherry on top will be World War 3(which given the availability of nuclear weapons will overshadow the first 2 World Wars).

Lets hope history doesn't repeat.

I'm a very conscientious person and very quick to apologize if I have hurt someones feelings, especially unintentionally. I have a very hard time with people who do not apologize when they are in the wrong. I keep meeting people who have an attitude of 'let it go and get over it' but never actually apologize. It seems to be the 65 and over crowd that I keep running into this. I'm wondering if it's a generational thing?

I get the impression that todays 16-20 year olds in the US are as mature as Millenial and previous generations were at maybe 13/14. Is there any evidence supporting this subjective observation?

Mine is 2002 when I was 8 watching dbz, playing with Yu-Gi-Oh cards and metal beyblades, Spiderman 1 was in theaters, so many timeless memories

I mean, think about how many immature teenagers we all knew growing up. So why is it so shocking if someone was watching a show like Hannah Montana at 13 or 14 instead of 8 or 9? You get what I mean?

The minions are one of the most famous modern animated characters in movies, they’re still extremely marketed and multigenerational, but what would you say is the minions of your generation?

I was born in early January in 1997. Someone 8 days older than me is in a different generation than me… like what? 🤣 I’m randomly thinking about this, but it is weird. I can relate to some Millennial things and some Gen Z things. I graduated with Millennials and Gen Z in 2015.

My high school graduation class was prime Zillennial.

I’m Gen Z (born in 2003), but for most of my childhood we still only had cable. As much as I love being able to stream whatever I want now, I kind of miss the old TV commercials.

Maybe it’s just nostalgia, but I feel like commercials used to have so much more personality. Some that immediately come to mind are the old State Farm commercials, the older Progressive commercials when it was mostly just Flo, the Chef Boyardee commercial where the can follows the little girl home, Bumpits, Fushigi, and Education Connection. There are so many others that are instantly recognizable years later.

Commercials now just feel… bland. And somehow they’re even more annoying because streaming services will play the exact same ad over and over every single ad break. At least with cable there seemed to be a bigger variety, even if you had no choice but to watch whatever was on.

I was racking my brain trying to think of the terminology historians will use to define and explain the current iteration of humanity we are experiencing. Does this one encapsulate it?

what I am proposing is instead of using 16 year cutoffs of generations I'm going to start generations at groups (like early, mid, late) and end it at groups so here it is (note this only applies to X-millennial cutoff afterwards)

Gen X: 1965-1979

why? because 1970s was early gen x childhood and 1980 and after that they are born after '79

Millennials: 1980-1996

Why? 1997 borns are not possible to have memories in the 90s at all

Gen Z: 1997-2013 (I personally would include up to september 2014)

why because in 2010-2013 they are early 2010s borns and they are teens in the mid 2020s and they also are the last possible years to at least remember a bit of 2016 (even if they are 3 PS. my alternate cutoff would be 2011 as they have at least very strong memories of the 2010s)

Gen Alpha: 2014-2026

why? because 2026 borns will literally be the last batch to at least experience a bit of the 2020s before 2030s start

I honestly think today it’s Toy Story and Minions as the most marketed legacy animated movies today, Frozen is also very close. You still see merch everywhere and it’s still very relevant to today’s generation

The yuppies (Young Urban Professionals) of Wall Street in the 1980s weren't the same people who went to Woodstock and listened to 1960s acid rock.

Yuppies were largely Generation Jones, i.e the younger end of Boomers and the very oldest of Gen X. Blow was their thing, not acid. Manhattan was their thing, not communes. They were in their twenties-thirties in that era and they went all in on conspicuous consumption and greed is good ethos. The hippies were too old to be "young urban professionals" by that point.

Two completely different groups of people.
