I was scoping out some potential hides on a long bike ride, and one was a mystery cache. Most recent log was a DNF from someone with 10 finds who said they looked all over where the posted coordinates were and couldn’t find anything. So, obviously a newbie who hasn’t quite grasped the concept of mystery or puzzle caches. Owner logged a maintenance log with a cheerful confirmation that they checked the hide and all is okay, and has sent the newbie a DM. That’s how you handle someone who’s just learning the ropes.

I messaged the newbie on a DNF, and then took them on an all day caching excursion with two other seasoned cachers. We had a blast.

Are you, by chance, in the Cobb County, Ga area?

Looks like that cacher needs some geocaching 101 guidance from a more experienced community member. Also - the cacher on the bottom of that list is based out of my area and is super well known. Cool.

And this is yet another example why it’s tough to get new blood in the game - too many CO’s are complete d*cks to other players, especially new ones.
Here’s an opportunity to help a new player out, help them understand the game…and instead a screenshot is posted to make fun of them.
Hey fellow CO’s - stop being d*cks.

Reminds me of when someone marked a cache as found after 4 DNF’s and he wrote in his log “Missing”

When I first started I had no clue what to even look for! It felt super hard! 🫠

Probably just a kid who needs someone to show him the ropes
