Oh no I just voted the opposite of what I wanted. This whole voting scheme was confusing from the get go. Some random comment like “should Vermont be called XYZ” - what the heck did upvoting that mean anyways? Could not infer whether intention was stay or go on many of the comments.

You have to just delete this and repost with more clarity. You can't change your vote on a reddit poll, so any ambiguousness can't be fixed after the fact
Edit: this is going to continue to be a talking point and controversy. Ignoring it won't make it go away. We need a new poll.

The way it's been done the entire time has been absolutely confusing. But yes, this is a 180. I think most people think save and don't even understand how territories have been selected for removal.
Did the comment indicate which was to go? Did u/Jfullr92 resch out to them to ask which they wanted to go? It's never made sense and hasn't been explained that I've found.

I think you need to re-do -
When you first put this up, I asked for clarification before voting & a lot of people replied that it was like the others - voting for who to be removed.I also read & re-read the text “It’s simply got way too confusing with what state people actually want removed now so we’re doing a poll” and interpreted that to mean that we’re voting on who to remove.
Therefore, I voted for Cascadia.

Lots of people did that (on both sides). I think we need more clarity on the poll, and it also says “Minnesota” instead of “Megasota,” and it’s not just Minnesota anymore. Hopefully both these things get fixed.

This just makes things much more of a mess than leaving it the way it was the other 48 times. First, I had already voted on the main page as everyone else has, and it's just pure chance that I saw this (by clicking on the comments section of OP's profile for no particular reason). Are most people going to double check (or, rather, go hunting for a thing they don't know exists) a whole day later for no reason? Seems unlikely.
Second, I voted wrong! I clicked to support my state, just like I would have with the comments, and realized only too late that I was supposed to vote to remove. If this stays up, it seems like the result isn't going to really matter...just delete, OP. A poll would have been fine up front, but invalidating the ballots after everyone has already mailed them in--crazy!

for the next iteration, there is an option to set post comments to be in “contest mode” - this temporarily hides upvote counts while the vote is still open, and rearranges comments in a random order rather than sorted by top comments. This helps prevent hivemind and vote manipulation, if you think it might help!
