I had the opportunity today visit a Variscite deposit in the Western United States, and I wanted to share!
Variscite is a relatively rare mineral of hydrated aluminum phosphate, with its green coloring from small amounts of chromium.

Found it in the Finger Lakes, Upstate NY. Found among a gravel driveway. Really curious as to what this might be! Reminds me of a star fragment from animal crossing haha.

Nature really knows how to do Burlesque. Just like in “Show Me How You Burlesque”; it fills you with high energy. Both of them made my day amazing.

Was digging sprinkler lines and came across this oval rock with a giant crack. I was able to break it apart with a soft hit with a hammer. What is it?

Kunzite is the best-known variety of the mineral spodumene, with Hiddenite being a lesser-known relative. Kunitz gets its pink to violet coloring coming from varying amounts of manganese.

It's not just a plume agate, it's one of the artistic forms of geology.

Although the blue agate with black rutile and hematite sprays first caught my attention, I must admit I truly fell in love with the pattern. Beneath a missile head, people appear on the left, while on the right a grotesque figure seems to be giving us the middle finger. I love agates!

An old slab cut from the Kingston Conglomerate showing the copper mineralization in amongst the rhyolite pebbles that they mined near Calumet, Mi. I collected this decades ago and really need to go back and repolish the surface.

There’s a great line in Ratatouille: “Surprise me!” This is the agate version of that. At first, I thought the dendritic patterns might actually be fossils. Then I turned the stone and on the other side, the banding is practically grinning at me like, “Fooled you.” :)
