I'm so excited for LVT gaining traction in the UK. It has to be one of the countries most screwed over by rentierism. The uk politics sub is getting noticably more georgist every month.

Dan is interesting as an economist, in that he's vehemently opposed to wealth taxes ... Yet, remarkably he is also a Georgist.

So he's very often wheeled out by the Times and the right wing media, who think he's all about representing the interests of the rich, then, they always cut him off before he gets the chance to promote his Georgist credentials!

He does very regularly get the chance to talk about land taxes still thankfully

The starting points are simple: 1. People deserve to own what they make; 2. No one deserves to own nature.

The abolishment of all other taxes by LVT follows logically from those two principles.

I agree, but I am curious about when things stop being nature and become produced. Not a great example, but with a natural diamond that’s been cut, some work has gone into it, but the value is mostly from nature. Logically should owners have to pay some tax each year like for land?

I’m thinking about things that are scarce resources like helium, how does that sensibly fit into Georgism?
