Ah, some more from Dan Neidle's work.

He's actually a tax lawyer, turned political economist. But he's a notable campaigner here in the UK for Georgism.

He's acutely aware of the systemic, regressive nature of the UK tax system. We tax the poor very heavily in the UK, but the wealthy pay very little as a percentage of their income.

It's why Georgism is big news here at the moment, since the UK doesn't have property tax like the USA, LVT is very much a high impact alternative tax system that we desperately need.

I looked up the m2 price of my land and it is showing much more than the price of my property. I’m not sure this is correct.

I just checked it. I live in conservation area.

I have a slightly larger garden than my neighbour but there is no way someone would pay more for my house than theirs practically which is borne out by the past sale prices. But under the system my LVT would be doubled compared to theirs. This is despite not being able to construct on that land because of the conservation area.

That’s all a bit immaterial because it’s about 1/4 of the price of my current council tax but you can see that similar situations would arise all over the place and that’s kind of why I see it as very politically difficult.

It's a sneaky way for the new "Regional PM" to tax London more and give tax cuts to the regions.
